Sleeping on Dwarf Warriors?
Warriors have always been my favorite due to putting more bodies on the table. But perhaps due to their underwhelming flavor, I see almost no discussion of them here. I wonder if players here would consider testing lists with more Warriors.
- They are cheap heavy infantry with all Dwarfs' best attributes: WS4, T4, Ld9, Shieldwall, Close Order, Heavy armor, Shields/Great Weapons. The key here is you have all the essentials. While admittedly without frills, they can best achieve outnumbering status, which is better than ever. Are Gromril Weapons or Gromril Armor much to write home about?
- Runesmiths will probably be elsewhere with expensive troops due to Forgefire - therefore by placing Kings & Thanes within Warriors the point-values of your units will be nicely spread. In practice you can make best use of Kings & Thanes' stand and shoot due to bolstering CR in situations where it is most marginally effective.
- They are also the best marching column redirect unit we have. Though it remains to be seen whether this is a worthwhile strategy.
- More bodies implies the best use of MRoGrugni bubble. Generally with the high power of magic missiles in this game, you will give the opponent more to kill as well as give yourself more saves.
Yes, you will need an elite unit or two so that you can deal with certain threats. But large blocks of Warriors present that same dilemma to your opponent for cheaper. 24 Warriors with FC is a mere 207 points. Do they really want to spend time on that if they can't land a flank charge due to even more supporting Warriors?
Any more Warrior-lovers out there? I will be completing my 2000-point army with 98 warriors (and 24 Longbeards, 15 Hammerers) in the coming months.
