Facts, Answers and Questions! (FAQ)
What has Happened to the Brewery Forum??
Since 1997 I have run a forum dedicated to Dwarfs and Warhammer. It started off as a forum running on some freely hosted software and quickly outgrew this. From around 2000, it was hosted on paid for software which ran well for the next 10 years but as GW killed of Warhammer Fantasy, so the software company wanted very large sums of money to continue using it. Refusing to pay this, the Brewery kept on going despite becoming quieter as Social Media took over. Since Covid, I have been researching the best forum software to continue the Brewery on and eventually decided on this one. Its modern, lightweight, is good for both mobile and desktop and is easily managed. Yes I could have chosen MyBB or SMF but they antiquated in their coding and still don't have the features needed. The new forum also doesn't require those large sums of money to keep running!
Being new means a few changes, read further down on this! But be assured, the Brewery is not going anywhere and we have many grudges to strike out!
Where has my content gone??
The majority of your content is still here. Some forums have been trimmed (The Gyrocopters Station for instance which pulled in news from other websites was only pulling in one website!) and others have been locked down but still visible should you want to search or read the old material. Messages where not transferrable, but if you need a certain message content, please let me know. I have everything from the old forum backed up. Blogs where also not transferred, and neither where the articles, but with the articles I plan to make this available in due course and if you want to continue your blog, let me know and I will hand paste over your blogs.
Where have the images gone??
The picture gallery is also another place which has undergone transformation. All pictures have been saved and will be reuploaded in due course. How I get these into the old discussions remains to be seen, but I will be working on this as it requires some further tinkering.
How does everything work here?
Everything works on a "tag" system which is no different to the categories of the old forum. Secondary tags then allow you to also tag content appropriately. For instance. I want to start a conversation about my grey pile I am painting for the "old world". So the "Primary" tag would be "Hobby Talk" and the Secondary tag could be "The Old World" and also "Painting" It then means that anyone clicking on the "The old world" would see my post as well as if someone saw it by clicking on the Hobby Talk or Painting.
If your still missing the old categories, then you can click on categories and then the category you want to read about. Its still the same forum and posts, its just depends on which way you want to view it!
You can also click on the "Tags" and see all the tags with all the posts linked to it. Cool eh?
Text formatting seems a bit odd. What's going on?
Meet "Mark Up" language. BBCODE still exists, but you can also use "Mark Up" which becomes a lot quicker to use when you get used to it. You can see how to use "Mark Up" language by going here
We have included a WYSIWYG editor though so make life really easy! Colors are lacking, I am working on that if its at all possible.
I need help. What do I do?
Easy, either open a private message with me or make a post choosing the primary tag "Help!" and one of the Brewery staff will reply!
