It is, in my opinion, barely a a semicompetitive list. People see the warmachines and anvil and judge the list as a gline, and forget I can pack 3 cannons, 3 grudge (all cannons with forging (burning reloading) and grudge st5 4 3 with accuracy rune) and 2 organ and barely break a sweat point wise.

Ive done my best to deal with the scenarios by having the rangers and miners. 2 out of my 4 blocks thus deploy where I want them too in a way. I usually put both heros in the longbeards, deploying them where Im going to scout the longb and then running them into the unit first turn. The 5+ aoe ward against shooting helps out a bit and gives me a big boost against any shooting my opponent has.

Magic defense is solid. Slayers tarpit whatever need be via conga and some champs.

The army weakness is actually my infantry. Dwarfs infantry are no longer grind tank infantry. With infantry fighting in 2 ranks, hand weapon and shield armor bonus gone, stomp, and me giving my guys great weapons Im finding the dwarfs go down WAY faster then they used too. The truth is coming from high elves I feel bereft of shock units. Everything bar slayers have just 1 attack (at low Init), and Im unable to get any sort of hatred, poison or killing blow equivalents. Hence Ive been considering boostng the warriors to 40 with great weapons and really have them slug things out with other units. Im not quite sure I want to do that just yet, I do seem to have a decent army balance.

Going over the 3 losses:

1) was against a gor horde beastmen army. I feel I did have some bad luck in this game. His ambushers scattered both in the same place and overwhelmed the same flanks. 1 unit took out the slayers flank guard I had and the other crept around and got into my warmachines. Although I did end up winning a flank my I needed to direct alot of my shooting into it and thus my longbeards were overwhelmed in the middle. It was one of my earlier games, where the miners where only 10 and not large enough to do anything useful, had no organ gun and no thane of pain to help the longb out. I had a block of hammerers which did nothing except eat special points. Stubborn is nice but they go down very fast. Shooting had a high number of misses or 1s to wound but besides that I deployed wrong.

2) against a daemons army, missed out on a draw by 9 or so points so was fairly close. A highly entertaining game. Miners and anvil combo yielded a bunch of VP. I did deploy my longb poorly and lost them to a bloodletter +herald unit. Flamers hurt me pretty bad, organ gun blowing itself up did not help me.

3) against a warriors army in that blasted diagonal deployment scenario. Anvil, cannon and bsb had to come on in reserve and I had a hill right in the way so I had to deploy on top of it and thus close to the enemy. That said I couldve won the game if I had brought my thinking cap, there was a possible solution to the game involvng conga slayers and rune of challenge but I had not seen it until a friend pointed it out after.

I actually quite like the dwarfs. They remind me alot of 6th edition balanced high elves. Highly defensive and with good ranged support, but requires alot of planning to get the infantry into favourable combat matchups.

Id like to hear anyones comments on the list as I get back to painting (and school).
Cheers
