I went to a small 10 player tournament yesterday. It was a preparation tournament for Budapest GT, and we got to fight for the title of "Team Captain" and payed entry fee to the said GT. I did win the first place, the title and the fee, but I got lucky.

For those of you that are not sick of my complaining, the said GT is the tournament that issued the "rulings" on Gyro, making it, well, less desirable option.

What I had in mind was a list placed here: http://www.bugmansbrewery.com/topic/30546-2500pts-gt-army/

Still, missing the MRoChallenge, I have decided to try out something similar, but I have dropped the AoD and took a second RS, and a Thane with two more dwarves in my blocks.

The lists were pretty magic heavy. I know that this might go to battle reports area instead, but since I'm still preparing for the said GT, I need further comments on my list.

So the list was:
Lord: General, SB, GW, MRoSteel, RoStone, RoPreservation, MRoSpite, RoFurnace

BSB: MRoGromril, RoResistance, RoPreservation, RoFurnace, RoSpeed
Runesmith 1: GW,Sh, MRoBallance, RoSpellbreaking
Runesmith 2: GW,Sh, Spelleater, RoSpellbreaking
Thane: GW, RoShieldnig, RoStone, MRoChallenge, RoBrotherhood

20 Quarellers, GW, FCG
20 Longbeard rangers, FCG
24 Longbeards, GW, FCG
24 Hammerers, GW, FCG, MRoGrungni

Canon: Eng, RoForging, RoBurning
GT: Eng, RoAccuracy, RoPenetration, RoBurning

The experience from the tournament:
3 games:
1st: Pitched battle against Lizardmen (Slann gen+bsb (Life) in a unit of the Guard, 1 ancient stegadon with engine of the gods, 1 stegadon with boltthrower on it, 2 units of Saurus warriors, 2 small units of skinks, 1 skink skirmisher unit, 1 pack of 3 razordons, 1 salamander, 4 terradons)
2nd: Dawn attack against WE (L4 Mage (Life) in a unit of wardancers, 1 small unit of scouts, 2x10 glade guard, another bigger unit of glade guard to house a BSB, Alter noble, 2 units of driads one with a driad hero, 1 unit of 6 treekin, one treeman)
3rd: Battle for the pass against HE (Teclis (Shadow), BSB, 2 units of PhGuard, 2 Units of Lothern Sea guard, 1 Unit of White Lions, 2 Eagles)

My artillery totally blew it against Lizardmen. GT killed the priest on engine of the gods, and that was it. He bore down on me in turn 2 and that was it. By the end of the 5th turn I had only 4 models standing: Genaral, BSB, one RS and a Standard bearer from the Hammerers. He was pretty much untouched. And then, I managed to finish up with the TG, kill the Frog, withstand the randomization of impact hits from two stegadons, and break them. Byt the end of the game I still had my 4 miniatures, and he had small stegadon standing, two units of saurus warriors, 1 skinks unit, skink skirmishers, Salamander and terradons. I won by 108 points.

Spelleater only came to dispel one spell and did not eat it. I did kill two L4 mages on turn 1 with my machines.

I never got to use RoShielding on my thane, but I had no opponents with war machines.

My rangers died in each game. They rolled 9 on two break tests they took on 8, and were run down both times. They did scare the enemy a lot.

Missfires on the GT were a serious problem in each game. Eng did save me twice from removing the machine. Additional wound also worked fine. Engineers stay on my machines. I'm considering a ME as well, but can't see the points yet.

In game 2 my GT removed enough models protecting the L4 mage for the canon to kill him since he had no LO,S!

Teclis died under a stone, in turn 1, after rolling a 1 on the LO,S! It was a bit of luck and a bit of my opponent bragging too much after previous victories. His BSB died the same way right after that, but by a canon ball. After that I could've just hide under a rock and wait, but we did play some more. Without Teclis, and with me evading CC with the PhGuard, I did manage to destroy a unit of sea guard with my hammerers, and I got to charge White Lions in the flank. They tried to run away, but the dice did not work for my opponent, and I ran them down.

Big things hit hard. Really hard! They destroy whole units!

Magic is hard. Even with my dispelling beefed up like this, L4 mages cast like hell. In a game with the wizard alive after the round 1, a lot of magic passed. I did stop the big nasty spells, but augments are really dangerous as well. Healing big things with Life magic is nasty too. Makes Stegadon almost unkillable.

GW quarellers rock. they shoot fine, and they kill decent amounts of enemy troops in CC.

So far, no VC players applied for the GT, and no Ogres.

Please, feel free to give advice.
