Hello everyone and welcome back to the continuation of my Restricted League.

To Recap for those just jumping in:

The base format is 2400pts. You may only have 300pts of Lords, 300pts Heroes, 300pts Rares, 600pts Specials, and 100pts of magic items. Also, you may not have any duplicate choices of Specials or Rares. With each battle you play, you obtain a territory that eases restrictions. For instance, I have a Master Rune of Balance that does not count towards the 100pt magic limit. I also have two territories that allow one duplicate special choice each as well as 25pts extra per territory for specials. I also have one duplicate rare choice with 25pts rare, and 25pts of extra magic items. The one from last week's game we forgot to roll for so I didn't apply it to my list.

So, here is what I brought to take on the Skaven who solidly beat me in week 4 (ish can't remember). Regardless, there was a grudge in play and I wasn't going to forget it!!!

Rune Lord Murphey Lawforger (Gave him a GW, Ro Stone, and the MRo Balance)

Dragonslayer Ig (I have been experimenting with Dragonslayers as flank support and fallback protection to surprising effect)
Dragonslayer Ook (They are, of course, nakie as jaybirds)

Master Engineer Kennit Wildhammer (After last game he earned a name. I gave him his usual GW and Handgun with a Ro Stone)
The Brewmaiden BSB (My usual BSB with a handful of mugs, a banner, and Rune of stone nestled in her cleavage)

40 Warriors with GW and Shields (This was my stopgap for my BSB to give em some shooting protection)
40 Warriors with just GW (these guys are just meant to steamroll, pure and simple)
30 Longbeards with shields, a bar and attitude. (Since there is such a big restriction on specials, I have come to love these guys as "The buck stops here!")
GT with Eng, Accuracy and Penetration
Cannon with Eng, Forging and Burning
Cannon with Eng and Burning
2 Organ Guns (This is my "You asked for it" solution. Plus, I had the territory to double up rares!)

My opponent had a lot of points available for Heroes, Lords, Specials and Rares but no extra choices so I was expecting heavy magic and at least an A-Bomb. Here's what he brought:

Grey Seer (Don't know what he had, but he rolled 13th spell, Crack's Call, Deathfrenzy, and Skitterleap)
Warlord (Didn't ever find out what he had either)
Plague Priest (Rolled Pestilent Breath, and Wither)
Plague Priest (Rolled Bless with Filth and Cloud of Corruption)
2 Units of 30 Clanrats with Shields and weapons teams (one had Ratling gun, other had Warpfire Thrower)
2 units of 40 Skavenslaves with Shields
1 Block of 30 Stormvermin
1 Big block of Giant Rats (45-50)
12 Jezzails
3 Rat ogres one of which was a champ along with Master Moulder
Warplightning Cannon
Hellpit Abomination

So yeah, alot of stuff, but not excessively huge.

We rolled for the scenario and got the Sands of Time. This scenario is league made to replace the tower. It is a normal Battle Line Scenario except deployment has an extra 6 inches in on the last 6 inches of the board, forming a U-shaped deployment zone. The game also is a variable turn length. At the end of each player's turn, they roll a dice and add it to a pile. Once the pile reaches 36, the game ends. We then rolled for the location and ended up in the jungles of Lustria. We rolled for terrain and the board ended up looking like this:

The middle was nasty for me with that Bane Stone sitting there in the middle(+1 to wound against me would hurt, not so much for him since I had most great weapons anyhow), and I didn't particularly like that Necrotic Ooze either. We rolled for sides, and I won. So I took the side with the Necrotic ooze and started deploying.

My plan was to use the Ooze to my advantage by allowing it to protect the OG. The Right Horde would cover one flank and the Longbeards would cover the Warmachines. Slayers were situated to absorb fire and hopefully counter-charge.

His deployment was like this:

His deployment was a little erratic. He made sure to keep his WLC behind the buildings to hide it from my cannon on the left. He had a virtual roadblock on the right and then put his HPA square in front of my cannon on the right. I was slightly concerned about the giant rats trying to make an end run around my horde, but at least the HPA wasn't there!

We roll off for first turn and I win.

Dwarf Turn 1
With no charges to declare, the Warrior horde #2 on the right flank swiftly reforms and shuffles to cover the flank from the wall of rat running in that side. The Longbeards, not wanting the Rat Ogres or Plague Monks to hit ME Kennit's artillery park, swifly perform a left face and move up to receive any charges. The Ig the slayer swiftly steps out of their way. Cannon #2, with an eye full of Abomination, bounce a flaming cannon ball straight through the terrifying creature and render it back to primordial, flaming ooze. ME Kennit spots almost the entire Skaven command in the Stormvermin unit through his scope. He turns and orders the grudge thrower to send a "special message." The glowing rock exploded right in the middle of the seething mass killing ten as well as wounding the BSB with shrapnel. Cannon #1 was more concerned with the huge Rat Ogres lumbering towards them and bounced a burning cannonball through them. The monstrous creatures were tough to kill though and it only managed to wound one of the beasts. I toss my die for the sands and get a 5, maybe this game can be over quickly.

Skaven Turn 1
Somewhat perturbed at losing his prized Abomination so quickly, the Warlord orders his Rats forward. The Rat Ogres move up slowly as the Plague Monks dash up to form a battle line along side the monstrous creatures. The giant rats, clanrats led by a plague priest, and both slave units move forward towards the far right flank. The warlord, not wanting to be shot at by the Organ Guns so soon, hide out by the arcane ruins so the Grey Seer can inspect it further. The Grey Seer absorbs magic from the arcane ruins and tries to cast Deathfrenzy on one of the slave units, but is interrupted by ruckus laughter from the Runelord sitting at a field bar across the way. Irritated at being foiled by the dwarf-thing he calls a Crack forth to deal with their deadly Organ Gun. That too was foiled by the drunken Runelord. The Warplightning Cannon, in a terrifying display of energy, arcs across the battlefield to fry 22 Dwarf things in the horde on the right flank. To add insult to injury, the Jezzails fire at ME Kennit and manage to kill him. He then tosses his die for the end of his turn and gets....a one. Ok, maybe this game won't be so short after all!

Dwarf Turn 2
After taking a severe shot to the warrior horde on the right flank, I reform them to a 5 wide unit and line them up to charge against one of the slave units. The Longbeards, complete their march to face the Rat Ogres and Plague Monks. Ig dashes around behind the Longbeards to cover the war machines. Cannon #1 Lined up on the Rat Ogres again and bounced a cannonball through the misshapen champion killing him outright. The Grudge Thrower lands a shot square on the Stormvermin killing all but the Warlord, Grey Seer, BSB, and two Stormvermin! The Warlord and BSB only glared at the remaining Stormvermin to prevent them from slinking off. Organ Gun #1 lines up for a clear shot at the warlord's severely depleted unit and misfires prompting the crew to disassemble the weapon to figure out what went wrong! Organ Gun #2 also tries to line up a shot on them only to hear a fizz clunk as the powder fails to ignite! I roll again for the sands of time and get another 5.

Skaven Turn 2
Intent on getting into combat as quickly as possible, the frenzied Rat Ogres charge at the Longbeards. In their frenzied state, however, they failed to grasp how far the Longbeards actually were. The Giant Rats attempt to charge Canon #2 but also fail to reach the war machine. The Warlord, Grey Seer and BSB all abandon the depleted Stormvermin and leave the two to hide under the rocks of the arcane ruins for the rest of the game. The move over to join the unit of clanrats nearby led by the other Plague Priest (with Pestilent Breath). Unable to cope with the pestilent breath of the Plague Priest, the Grey Seer skitterleaps the priest behind the GW warriors on the right flank. He then tries again to Call a crack at OG#1 but is stopped again by the troublesome Runelord. Angrily he shouts at the Jezzails to fire on the partying Longbeards and the barrage of fire destroys the bar as well as a good 9 Longbeards. Ok, now they have done it! Its time to get nasty! He rolls for the Sands of time and gets.....another 1! So we are now up to a total of 10 after 2 turns. Plenty of time to exact some vengeance after having the bar demolished.

Dwarf Turn 3
In a fit of rage, the Runelord and Longbeards charge at the frenzied Rat Ogres. The GW warriors on the right flank charge at the slaves closest to them. The BSB unit of GW warriors, not wanting to frighten the slaves away, hold off on their charge. Ook, seeing the Plague Priest pop up at the right flank, tries to charge him but realizes Cannon #2 is in the way! Instead she dashes around the cannon to provide support for next turn. The grudge thrower misses the Warlord's new retinue despite a rune of accuracy. Cannon #1 tries to bounce a cannonball through the warlord, but he is pushed out of the way and both rats manage to get clear. (that damn rat is lucky!) OG #1 is still busy working on the device. OG #2 wheels around and Guns the skitterlept Plague Priest to a red smear. Ook, looking for a fight, angrily shouts at them and looks around for a new target to die to. The Runelord shouts out a challenge which the Master Moulder reluctantly accepts. Both swing angrily at each other, but the Moulder couldn't wound the tough Runelord and the Runelord couldn't hit the nimble rat. The Longbeards, however weather the attacks of the rat ogres and mangle both monstrosities. This prompts the Master Moulder to flee and get cut down. The Longbeards surge past the Plague Monks in their overrun. The Warriors plow into the slaves mercilessly but the slaves manage to hold on a steadfast 5. Looks like that fight is going to get a whole lot messier. I roll again on the sands of time and get a 6 hastening the game towards an end.

Skaven turn 3
Here is where he gets bitten by a roadblock. He wanted to charge his slaves into the flank of the warriors, but the unit of clanrats prevented them from being able to move without hitting. His Clanrats, led by the remaining Plague Priest, were barely able to charge into the flank themselves by narrowly missing their own Ratling gun. He tries again to charge Cannon #2 with the giant rats, but they again fail (a double 1 for charge). Determined to kill something, the frenzied Plague Monks charge Ik (who couldn't be happier). The Jezzails try to shoot OG#1 and only manage to kill one crewman. The Plague Priest tries to cast bless with filth on his unit, but cannot get pest the Runelord's magic defense. The Grey Seer shews on some stone and calls forth a crack to swallow OG#1 and succeeds........and loses control of the spell with total power! The resulting miscast calls forth a dimensional cascade sucking him into the warp and killing the BSB along with 12 Clanrats. Incredibly, the Clanrats hold together under threats of death from the Warlord. The Ratling gun tries to gun down OG#2 and spins wildly off course. Ig swirls into the Plague Monks with both axes and chops one down. The Plague Monks send a dozen attacks at the whirling Slayer, but fail to wound him at all! Ig loses the combat, but doesn't mind at all. His oath is being fulfilled. On the other side of the battlefield, the Warriors are buffeted by attacks from 2 sides and end up losing the fight by five. Thanks to the presence of the Brewmaiden nearby, promising drinks after the battle, they hold. He rolls for sands of time and gets......you guessed it! Another 1!! Sigh.

Dwarf Turn 4
I'm in it for no mercy this turn. Ook, spotting a Plague Priest in the melee, charges into the front of the Clanrats on the right flank fight. The Brewmaiden shouts at her warriors to charge into the flank of the Skavenslaves through the necrotic ooze and lose 5 to the dangerous terrain. The Longbeards reform to get the Jezzails, Plague Monks, and Warlord's Clanrats in view. The Grudge Thrower loads up another "Kennit Special" in honor of their fallen leader and drop it square on the Warlord's unit killing all but 6 rats and the Warlord. Not to be outdone, Cannon #1 snipes at the Warlord , but kills yet another rat. OG #2 then lets rip and kills everyone but the Warlord (one more model and he could have been hit too). His amazing luck ran out, however, with Cannon #2 taking the last shot and settling the grudge once and for all. In combat, Ig manages to bring down another 3 Plague Monks, but is finally brought down under a seething mass of plagued fur. As fitting a death as any slayer could hope for. Ook issues a challenge which the Plague Priest accepts. Each manages to score a wound on their foe, but then the storm hits. The sheer number of wounds caused by the Brewmaiden and her horde of Drunken Warriors scatters the slaves and breaks the clanrats, who are run down by Ook and the depleted GW warriors. This panics the remaining slave unit off the table and causes the warriors to overrun into the surprised Ratling Gun. It is at this point my opponent admits utter defeat.

We roll for our terrain choices and get one worth 75pts of heroes (which he as the loser chooses in his hopes of getting enough for a furnace) and that leaves me with a terrain that gives me 100pts of runes!

Observations: Wow. The Slayers actually did some awesome work, but what helped me the most were his deployment and the fact that he roadblocked himself. His Grey Seer also miscasting himself to the warp was a mighty boon too!
