Thane Dagani grumbled curses under his breath as he awoke from his ale induced slumber and realized that he had overslept once again. “NOT TODAY!” he groaned as he worked his way into his favorite suit of rune crafted armor, grabbed the nearby Battle Standard, and pushed his way out of the tent he had been sleeping in. Cursing yet again at the brightness that assaulted his sensitive eyes, Dagani stumbled into position amongst his 38 Hammerer brethren. “Glad you could join us,” came the gruff rebuke of a familiar voice. Squinting against the light, Dagani slowly made out the face of Runelord Rugnock further down the 10 wide hammerer line. “Glad to be here...” he returned, followed by a barely audible, “You cocky basterd.” Thane Dagani quickly counted 6 runes on Rugnock's possessions. Fighting his hangover induced headache, he took a mental note of them: Rune of Balance, 2 runes of Spellbreaking, Rune of Challenge, Rune of Stone, and a Rune of Resistance. Rubbing his own Runes of Resistance and Gromril for luck, Dagani took a broader look at the battlefield.

Master Engineer Grimpowder was up on a hill, directly behind Dagani. barking orders to the crewmen of 2 Bolt Throwers, a Cannon with a Rune of Forging, and a Grudge Thrower with 2x Rune of Penetrating and Rune of Accuracy. “HEY GRIM!” Dagani bellowed above the loud whir of a nearby Gyrocopter's blades, “DON'T FORGET TO ENTRENCH THAT GRUDGE THROWER!”

Glancing to his left, Dagani's resolve was strengthened as he observed 40 more of his Warrior brethren falling into horde formation, their Great Weapons glistening in the sun. Lacking shields, Dagani prayed that the Master Rune of Grungni, which was firmly implanted upon the hammerer's standard, would be enough to protect both their units from being massacred by the High Elf archers.

Right on cue, the High Elf trumpets sounded from across the battlefield. Grabbing the looking glass hanging around his neck, Thane Dagani quickly assessed what he would be up against. Two repeater bolt throwers were being assembled, one on either side of the massive army forming in the center. Starting on the left side of the battlefield, Dagani counted a unit of 12 Silver Helms in 2 ranks, 12 Swordmasters in 2 ranks, and 10 Archers with a level 2 Mage who was practicing Lore of Metal spells and polishing his Jewel of Dusk. In the center was a unit of 25 Spearmen in 5 ranks (there appeared to be a Noble with them), and 20 Lothern Seaguard in 2 ranks. To his right were 20 Phoenix Guard with a lore of death Archmage and, finally, a unit of 5 Dragon Princes on the far right.

Dagani swore for the third time in 5 minutes and began to grumble something about being way too outnumbered. Just then, a unit of 40 Rangers with Great Weapons arrived into position on the other side of the Warrior block. Dagani smiled for the first time that day as the sounds of earth giving way to Miner Picks below him greeted his tiny ears. This just might work....

TURN 1 - Dwarves

5 Miners show up directly behind the rightmost bolt thrower, poised to attack
The Cannon fires, obliterating the bolt thrower on the left.
Grudgethrower misses the Phoenix Guard, but hits 2 dragon princes. Both make their armor saves
Bolt Throwers have nothing to really shoot at that isn't in hard cover. Between the two of them, they manage to take out one Dragon Prince.
The 3 big blocks and Gyrocopter sit tight

TURN 1 – High Elves

Everybody marches forward, save the 10 archers with lvl 2 mage who turn towards the miners, yet fails to kill any. The 4 dragon princes are in an especially dangerous position to roll past the hammerers and right into the artillery park.
Remaining Bolt Thrower volleys the miners, killing 3. They pass their panic test with ease
One or two warriors are felled by the Lothern Sea Guard
Archmage dooms and darknesses the hammerer unit and then fails to irresistibly cast the purple sun (which would be the theme for this pointy eared magical basterd the entire game).

TURN 2 – Dwarves

Remaining 2 miners charge the Bolt Thrower, killing one crew. The other flees and is overrun
Doom and Darkness dispelled
Cannon and bolt throwers hit nothing
Grudge Thrower connects on the Phoenix Guard, killing 8 or 9 after the ward saves
The 3 big blocks and Gyrocopter sit tight.

TURN 2 – High Elves

Runelord uses rune of Challenge to draw dragon princes into Hammerer unit. They are subsequently wiped out and their banner added to the Hammerer's growing collection.
Archers continue to fire on Miners, killing 1 (1 left). They will spend the rest of their short lives attempting (but failing) to kill the last Miner.
Everything else marches up and is poised to charge on the next turn.
Lothern Sea Guard kill a couple of hammerers
Magic is a non-factor.

TURN 3 – Dwarves

Rangers charge Silver Helms, killing 8 of the 12 and causing a flee reaction. Making his one major mistake of the game, the stupid general neglects to pursue, which leaves his flank wide open to the oncoming swordmasters. Turns out, the Rangers would have Caught the Silver Helms as well.
Hammerers charge remaining Phoenix Guard, killing 4 or 5 and causing them to flee with 5 left. They flee on double 6s.
Warrior horde moves up towards spearmen.
Bolt Throwers and Cannon do minor casualties. Grudge Thrower decimates 12-13 spearmen.
Gyrocopter gets flank shot on Swordmasters, hitting 12... but only wounding 3!

TURN 3 – High Elves

Swordmasters get flank charge on unit of 35 remaining Rangers and begin their destruction.
Silver Helms and Phoenix Guard Rallies.
Magic is a non-factor

THE REST OF THE GAME

Ranger unit destroyed by the swordmasters and rallied Silver Helms.
Hammerers roll through 20 Lothern Sea Guard and 5 remaining Phoenix Guard. The archmage is unkillable with robes of forlath and flees another double 6. Hammerers eventually run him off the table on turn 6.
The middle horde unit (warriors with Great Weapons) continued to march forward, killing the weakened spears and Noble, though the Noble put up quite a fight taking no wounds in his first round of combat.
The gyrocopter went on to weaken the archer unit (with lvl 2 mage) down to 4 along with some help from the grudgethrower. On turn 6, the gyrocopter charges in and runs down the unit.
The bolt throwers finally decide to get serious on turn 6 and finish off the Silver Helms.
In the end, the only thing left living is a single swordmaster who was spared so that he might return to his elven brethren and inform them that the dwarves are simply too tough to ever consider attacking again!
