Hey all,

This is the first list I've posted up here. In my gaming group, we don't necessarily play to win (except one guy, the Skaven player, of course). I'm writing a list for our summer games that combines a viable approach to the Dwarf army with the use of the models I have and like, with an eye toward the lore behind my army.

Behold, the Not-Quite Competitive Throng of Gildenbeard and Co.!

(This is a 1500 Point List)

Heroes:

Thane-
-BSB
-MRoGromril, Resistance

Runesmith-*
-General
-Shield
-Rune of Stone
-MRoBalance
-RoSpellbreaking

Core:

Warriors x30-
-Great Weapons
-Full Command

Quarreler Rangers 15**
-Great Weapons

Special:

Cannon
-RoForging
-Engineer

Grudge Thrower
-Rune of Accuracy
-2x Rune of Penetrating
-Engineer

Ironbreakers x21***
Command-
-Runic Banner: MRoGrugni

Notes on proposed tactics:
-Runesmith goes with the Ironbreakers invariably
-GW warriors deploy in support of Ironbreakers. Rangers deploy where needed.
-BSB deploys with either warriors or IB's (not sure where)

-IBs are an anvil, GW warriors are the hammer. Perhaps the rangers will be as well. War machines rain down death on my enemies

Alternative Models that I have:
-About 25 Warriors/Longbeards with Shields, GW both modeled (group isn't picky about WYSIWYG but does prefer models as close to accurate as possible)
-Organ Gun
-2 more cannons
-Another Grudge Thrower
-2 Bolt Throwers
-About 20 Thunderers
-Several heroes/lords, but no Lord on Shield-Bearers
-10 more Iron Breakers

That should be it. I could use some of my LBs with great weapons as Hammerers, but I'm trying to get together enough models to form my core regiments first. After that, I'll see about some Lord's bodyguard.

-Should I reserve points for an Organ Gun somewhere?

Currently, the Rune of Stone puts me a little bit over the 1500 point limit. See "**" entry on Iron Breakers below

**Not sure about these guys, in a few ways. First, my collection isn't with me right now (except for a few models and my book), so I'm not sure whether I have 15 quarrelers or not. If not, what would be a viable alternative? I'm not too concerned with range, so perhaps another, smaller block of warriors could work?

Now that I think about it, they don't really need to be rangers, do they? They do gain a significant level of flexibility that way, though. Something to discuss.

***I know what you're thinking. Why doesn't he take Hammerers? Well, the basic answer is that I don't own any. The more complex answer is that Ironbreakers are amongst my favorite models, and they fit in well with my fluff. I do have a question though. They need a runic banner, but I'm not sure what. Right now, they have a MRoGrugni. I'll be facing High Elves, Skaven, VC, Dark Elves, and Ogres mostly, so I'm not sure if this is entirely useful. What would be a good alternative to this? I'm trying to open up points for more protection on my Runesmith-general and, possibly, a few more IBs in the unit.

Thanks for criticism, all who reply!
