Okay so this is my first ever battle report so cut me some slack in advance… 🙂

I was up against High Elves at my local gaming club. I have only recently started playing with dwarfs but my previous army were the high elves – however I have never been opposite them on the table!

His list:

Level 4 with item of extra spell (High magic) – all spells apart from make units stubborn within 12 (Which I was very shocked that he didn’t choose-he had 2 doubles) goes with central archers
Level 2 with item to choose spells (Shadow) –razor and –d3 stats goes with PG
BSB goes with central archers
Caderean (Hero level special char.)
3 units of 16 archers (red)
20ish phoenix guard (blue)
2 units of 15 ish sword masters, one with banner of sorcery (+d3 power dice) (blue)
2 bolt throwers (yellow)

My list:

Rune smith, balance, spell breaking (hangs behind the building in my DP and does nothing all game)
Thane, bsb, Mr.gromril, RoResistance, RoChallange goes with hammerers
29 Hammerers, Mr.Grungi, FC (brown)
30 warriors, GW,FC (olive)
18 quarrellers, rangers, GWs (purple)
10x thunderers (yellow)
2x cannon, forging on both, fire on one (purple)
Grudge Thrower, pen x2, accuracy (d.green)
Organ Gun (grey)

The terrain was 5 buildings, 2 in his deployment zone (one central and one towards the right), one tower in the right-middle section, one building just outside my zone on the left, and one central inside my zone.

Deployment was as below: (see above for colours – circle is war machine, rectangle is infantry)

Dwarf turn 1
Hammerers shuffle round to the right slightly to prevent the warriors getting double charged by sword masters
Grudge thrower lands a hit and kills 13 sword masters from the back unit
Left BT destroyed with cannon, right BT taken down to 1 wound with the other
Quarrellers knock a couple of PG off

Elf t1
PG move towards quarrellers, SM move towards warriors around the right side of the building
Magic non existent
A few quarrellers and hammerers die to archers and the remaining BT

Dwarf t2
Shuffle warriors back slightly to make the hammerers the closer target for the sword masters
Organ gun shoots at the closest unit of sword masters and rolls a 10! Kills 9 of them. Suddenly they are not so scary anymore!
Grudge thrower misses, even with the reroll
Cannons wipe out remaining BT, try to snipe his Level 4 but unsuccessful
Thunderers and quarrellers kill a few PG

Elf t2
Sword masters and PG move up
Shooting kills a 1 quarreller and one hammerer
Magic – casts Mind razor on his PG irristabally, taking 5 PG and the wizard down to one wound in the process. Takes 2 inches of my hammerers movement

Dwarf t3
Move my hammerers towards his archers (very very slowly at a 2 inch March rate! Damn magic)
Organ gun obliterates the rest of the first sword master unit
Both cannons have a lovely flank exposed to the second unit of SMs, killing another 8 (trying to snipe Caderean in the process and failing)
Grudge thrower shoots at the PG and misfires… and is destroyed! Doh. Although now a depleted unit they were looking very scary now...
Good job the thunderers and quarrellers shot well! Whittled the PG down to 5 or 6

Elf t3
Sword masters charge the warriors
PG charge the quarrellers, all but the mage is killed with stand and shoot – good work boys!
Magic non existent (Right when he needed it!)
Shooting sees a couple more hammerers die
Combat: mage falls to the great weapons of the quarrellers.
SMs kill 11 warriors; I kill all but his unit champion in return, including the character. However I still loose combat. I then proceed to fail my leadership and 19 dwarfs get cut down by the one remaining sword master! Warhammer is silly sometimes...

Dwarf t4
Hammerers move up again to within charge distance of the archers
Quarrellers and thunderers kill lots of archers on the left flank, taking them down to around 6 or 7
Organ gun oblitorates that pesky sword master
Cannons take a couple of pot shots at his BSB, failing to get through LOS

Elf t4
No movement
Magic sees “curse of arrow attraction” cast irristabally on the hammerers (reroll missed hits with shooting on an enemy unit). The archmage is fine however.
This turn my hammerers felt the pain. I lost around 11 from bows but they easily pass their leadership

Dwarf t5
These turns were happening awfully quick now!
Hammerers charge the archers
Shooting from the quarrellers sees the Archmage unit depleted down to 3 men…
Which is when the archmage finds a cannonball flying towards his face with nothing to stop it! He is killed in one shot.
Hammerers, even though only 8 men strong and the bsb when they got to strike, obliterate his archers and BSB.

Elf t5
With not much left he could do now, had a few shots with his archers, killing one or two thunderers.

Dwarf t6
Hammerers charge and wipe out the other archer unit
Shooting sees the archers on the left flank reduced to 2 men, who flee and stop 1” short of the table edge. He called the game here – neither he nor I was convinced that his 2 archers could win him the game now!!

Result: Massacre for the dwarfs, myself loosing around 450 points and him around 1850! (If only those 2 elves’s died I would have had the full 2000!! Oh well can’t ask for much more really =D)
