Well, Midwest Rampage was this past weekend and I brought this Dwarf Throng to the war. Of 33 + ringer players, 6 were dwarves.

Tournament was 3000 points, no grand armies but special characters were kosher. Scoring was 50% battle, 60% sports, 40% judge scored painting with a -2 to +2 mod per game for player scored comp.

My list was this.

Dwarf Lord: Shieldbearers, GW, Stone, Preservation, Resistance, MR Spite: 266 points

Runelord: Shield, Cleaving, Stone, Spelleater, MR Balance: 273 points

BSB: MR Gromril, Resistance, Preservation: 155 points

2 x Dragon Slayer: 100 points

32 Warriors: GW, FC: 345 points

2 x 10 Quarrelers: Shields: 240 points

11 Thunderers: Shields, Champ w Brace: 175 points

28 Hammerers: FC, MR Grungni: 416 points

29 Ironbreakers: FC, Determination: 427 points

Cannon: Forging, Burning: 130 points

Grudge Thrower: 2 x Penetration, Accuracy: 155 points

Bolt Thrower: MR Immolation: 75 points

2 x Organ Gun: 240 points

Day 1.

Game 1: VS Dennis Gunia playing Warriors of Chaos. Mixed Gods, no Nurgle. Dragon.

Scenario was Dawn Attack: Table had a TON of buildings on the board and a fair amount of fences of various types and a (Hatred + Evil gets frenzy) in the middle of the board. Later in the tournament I heard that this table was called the "40k Table"

My deployments for this one.

Left zone: 2 Organ Guns and 10 Crossbows along a Blazing Barricade Line. My Bolt thrower to the right of that near a building.

Center Zone: Cannon on other side of the building where the BT was, Ironbreakers, Thunderers in Building, GW Warriors, Hammerers

Right Zone: 2 dragon slayers next to building with Grudge Thrower behind it. 20/20 hindsight should have had me put the GT about 2 inches farther up on the board. Then 10 crossbows in the building to finish the deployment.

His Deployments:

Across my Left: 10 Chaos Knights, L1 with Treason of TZ on disc, 5 Slannnesh M-Horse w flails on other side of building.

Center: 20 TZ Warriors w Rapturous Standard, 19 Khorne W w halberds + TZ BSB, 6 Slannesh Chaos Ogres.

Across my Right: Fighty Hero from hell on Dragon, Exalted on Steed of Slannesh.

Vanguard Moves: Marauder Horsemen up a little bit and the Exalted on Steed up the right to slip around the building with the crossbows to get behind me.

He went first: moved things up, hid the dragon and the Steed from the cannon. Treason got spelleatered but didn't get munched.

My turn 1: 2 x Organ Gun + 10 crossbows = 10 dead Khorne Knights.

It went downhill for my luck there from there. Eventually the steed guy got around a corner into my rear but there were a couple other screwups in the game that we both missed BIG TIME the also contributed to me getting nearly tabled. 6 Khorne Halberds + BSB + Dragon + Exalted on SoS = lotsa dead units. Though the Ogres that I tried to charge once should have actually been charged because we completely forgot that they were in range of the frenzy maker and shouldn't have been able to flee. Oopsie. I fought hard but the buzzsaw was too hard to take out. Great game though.

0-1 for the Dwarves, 2 Best General points IIRC, 7 battle points IIRC

Game 2: Meeting Engagement vs Joe Cornstubble.

He was only playing because he made a table and was convinced to play so he wasn't down here all weekend doing nothing useful. He was playing a very simple Daemons list with a Bloodthirster and a big mix of units from all the gods.

His latecomers was a unit of 5 flamers. My latecomers were my Grudge Thrower and my Ironbreakers.

Joe was NOT having good luck with his bloodthirster in the first 2 games. He played Dwarves both games and had it get nailed by a cannonball first turn both games. To his credit in Game 1, the dwarf player stole initative on him. In my game, the table was a heck of a lot more open and there wasn't a lot of room to hide.

This game was a major contrast to the first game. I was able to hold up and let him come to me since his only ranged stuff was a pair of 5 man flamer units. I did also make a questionable charge that ALMOST went really badly for me when I completely forgot that his Plaguebearers were in perfect position to slam into the flank of my Ironbreakers which I had just gotten into a grinding match with his daemonettes with my Dragon Slayers also poking in for silliness. In the end that fight ground on for 3 full game turns (6 combat rounds) before I finally finished off all of the daemons. having the fight happen in range of a Banestone made things a whole lot more interesting.

In the end I felt badly for him because I ended up actually tabling him in 5 turns with my only full unit casualties being the 2 dragon slayers, my bolt thrower which self destructed to little effect (4 hits rolled on MR Immo and 2 wounds, 1 saved on the Bloodletters) and 10 quarrelers who got munched by Bloodcrushers and Flesh Hounds.

1-1: 22 Battle Points IIRC, 8 Best General Points IIRC.

Game 3: Watchtower vs Jim Allen playing Nearly Pure Khorne Daemons.

I say nearly Pure since he had 2 4 man flamer units.

Other highlights to the list. Skulltaker with 6 more Bloodcrushers, 3 big "I swear too much" units of Bloodletters, 2 with Heralds.

He won the control of the tower but didn't have a core unit of the right size so it was vacant, huge point to notice. Terrain was a major factor in this one because in the table side that I didn't choose for my deployment there was a building smack dab in line with the watchtower with not enough room to stick one of his big bloodletter units in line with it.

I had a forest (Abyssal Wood rolled) in that spot where I stuck my hammerers w lord + BSB. left of that were the Warriors and on the right the Ironbreakers with the relatively useless Runelord. On his side of the board was a sorcerous portal. That was mostly beneficial to him.

The Watchtower can be a very stupid scenario. He very nearly tabled me by the time the game ended after 6 turns. I had only killed about 500 points of his army. The problem for him was that I managed to get my hammerers with all 3 non slayer characters in the watchtower turn 3 (blocked off his approaches with the other infantry units after my organ guns and other major shooting took out all but skulltaker by turn 2.)

By the end of the game there were the 3 characters + 10 hammerers left in the tower,

Lowlights of the game: Forgot to fire the Grudge Thrower turn 1 and it promptly blew itself up in spite turn 2. Other lowlight, once the Watchtower was the closest thing to the portal, it promptly spit out these for the next 4 spells. HT Soulblight, MT Plague of Rust, HT Fireball, MT Soulblight. He was pretty much getting Wildform and Speed of Light.....
2-1 Dwarves: 7 Best General points, 16 Battle points

Overall a surprisingly good turnout for me.

Also a VERY good turnout for most of the other dwarf players there. Gobbos, Gary Luther and David King were all 3-0 on day 1, Tim Cornstubble was 2-1 day 1 (ran into Livers game 2), and the young Livers was sadly the only Dwarf with a bad record of 0-3.

Day 2 Games:

Game 4: Battleline vs Tim Cornstubble.

Once again I was on that darn table I was on for game 1 so there was little to no manuvering room. I was on the other side of the table. Poor Tim's dice decided to implode badly, so much so that there should have been immediate summary executions of at least 4-5 dice. This game also shows the stupidity of TLOS in WFB. one of the terrain pieces rolled by Jim for the setup was a basic fence. Dennis had used for this 3 2x3 inch stacks of barrels as this feature. These stacks at their tallest points were probably taller than cavalry models. Had these things been normal fence size my cannon would have had clear LOS to a bit more than I thought it did. In the end it probably didn't matter since due to several missed charges (he was rolling 1 inch short several times in the game) he had 3 hammerers, his cannon and his anvil left while I lost about 700 points worth of troops. 3-1 record, my best showing ever in a 5 game tournament at this point.

Game 5: Blood and Glory vs Noght

This was probably my toughest fight of the day. MR Grungni had been validated in its purchase somewhat in the game against Tim, here it was completely and utterly validated to have it's place. Had I not had that rune and been rolling out of my "I swear too much" for armor and ward saves (mortars HATE Ironbreakers under the MR Grungni Aura) I would have probably been broken by turn 4 instead of the game going to points and I losing the game just barely with a VP differential of 204 in his favor. The damn Ironbreakers were most definitely playing the role of Daemons with Armor there 🙂. As a note, we should have stopped rolling for the spell on the quarrelers after the back rank died as the rest of the models were actually on the bank and not in the water itself.

3-2 final record with these guys. The matchups were DEFINITELY favorable to me for this. Over the course of the weekend I faced a total of 7 Wizard levels + 2 bounds and all but one of that was in the final game.

My shooting was also a bit heavier than normal and ended up being VERY nasty. My organ guns only self destructed once, lost 4 to cannon sniping and killed by CC once. That being said, they accounted for 10 Khorne knights, 9 bloodcrushers over 2 different Daemon games (just missing potting Skulltaker as well by 1 wound) and being the factor to break Tim's Quarrelers. The only game they were relatively useless in was the last one because I was the one who had to push forward. I now once again am probably going to start using Bolt Throwers again in at least a small capacity as well.

A very fun weekend. I can't wait for next year. Probably using my Warriors of Chaos because I haven't brought them to a Rampage yet.
