Skaven Deployment (Left to right): 2* plagueclaw catapult, 20 Stormvermin FC with rattling gun, Doom wheel, 40 Jackpot clanrats st+mus with screaming bell, plague priest and BSB +attached plague wind mortar, Abomination, 30 clanrats with FC and warpfire thrower and 4 Rat ogres with 2packmasters.

Dawi deployment (Left to right): 20 Rangers FC /he was very unhappy to see them there/, 25 Iron breakers FC, 37 Hammerers FC with Runelord and BSB, Organ gun, Cannon, 37 GW warriors, Cannon and Organ gun (Nameless).

Dawi won the 1st round roll and decided to start first!

Turn 1 - Onggor Throng

Kargan Thrundson surveyed his throng. Rank upon rank of stout dawi were arrayed round him. His rangers progressed hidden towards the hill, where the enemy has deployed his catapults. Those same rangers who informed him of the Thaggoraki rampage and while he was mustering his throng, they were shadowing the enemy advance. He was glad, he has brought so many fighting dawi. There will be no more thaggoraki plundering. Grundi Olaffsson stood with him and Kargan could see his narowing eyes. Yes, Grundis hammer will fall heavily on thaggoraki heads. They murdered his cousin Skalf from mothers side, just 10 years ago. Grundi swore there to let thaggoraki pay thousandfold for their misdeed. In the throng there was only one uncertainty, will Grundi need 2, or 3 years to fullfill his oath? There was quite a bigg wagger in the Boki tavern on the result, already.
Kargan torn himself out of his revelrie as he saw the white smoke rising. Rangers are in place. One last time Kargan surveyed his throng and ordered the advance.

Dawi steadily advanced. The enemy has remembered to switch on his Stormbanner /late, but before shooting, so why not.../. Rangers marched: I did not want to risk a failed charge, so went straight towards plagueclaww catapults. Plan was to sweep through his right flank with my rangers in such a way that they would arrive in the center together with hammerers and IBs and help them to smash the jackpot skaven. IBs moved forward to get rid of the doomwheel and hammerers advanced to cover their flank and prepare for the confrontation with the screaming bell unit. The dronbarag OG moved a little bit, just in case the skaven tried to outshoot me.

First cannon could not shoot due to the stormbanner, but the second one hit Abom, wounded it, he did not regen and it was 5 wounds! Great!

Turn 1 - Greyseers Gergsqueek horde

Kargan was relieved. Just as the storm hit the plain, so it went away. It complicated dawi shooting. He saw one cannon ball to hit the
3-headed abomination, wounding it badly. The beast gave a terrible roar. As if it was a signal, the ratty horde went into a trott and then into a run even. Just the right enemy flank was in disarray, as his Karazin were nearing the first of the catapults. He saw some ratty thing, probably a chieftain jumping up and down. Good, he said to himself. Just another volley and it would be time to close with the vile thaggoraki.

Doom wheel drives 15" and Abom gallops 13".
He rolls 10 for winds of magic. Looks nasty, but then promptly rolls 1,1 for grey seers first spell. Plague priest then casts vermintide-on a 16.
Nice, a lot of dice left, so lets dispell it. A 1,1,1,2,3,5 roll later I am much less amused. It will be not the last time with many 1s present in a roll. 3 Hammerers and one OG crewdwarf are overrun with vermin and die.
Warlock rolls an IF, does a wound to the second cannon. Resulting miscast (calamitous detonation) costs warlock 1W and 2 clanrats in a nearby unit die.

Plague claw catapults then fire. 1 scatters on the doomwheel (a 10" scatter), the other one kills 2 more hammerers. Their aim is off, probably from the fear of rangers (a justified one, of course).

Turn 2 - Onggor Throng

Kargan watches ironbreakers to engage the weird skaven wheel and rangers swarming over slimy thaggoraki catapults. Thunderous roar from the cannon behind him gets him out from contemplating his next rune research. The 3 headed beast is torn appart by the flaming cannonball. As he wants to say his thanks to Grungni, he sees two rats carrying a weird instrument and pointing it in the direction of the clan warriors regiment. He sends a runner to both organ guns to aim for these. There has to be some devilish scheme behind this. Some more thaggoraki treachery. There will be none of this ratty devilry here. Not under his command! First Organ gun is too eager to fullfill his orders and explodes as a fuse was set too early. The second with a more veteran crew takes carefull aim and sends a full barage flying towards skaven. Only red mist remains after the barage hits. The other cannon hits the grey seers shambling structure and Kargan nods approvingly as he sees the young Snorri to cheer him. Only the fact that grey seer is protected by some eldritch greenish field sours Kargans day.

Ironbreakers to the wheel. Hammerers advance and cover their flank. GW warriors prepare to engage clanrats and ROgres.

In the shooting phase I roll Misfire and 1 for the Nameless OG -Ka-Boom. Dronbarag OG rolls 2, re-roll 8 -warpfire thrower goes. Abomination is dispatched by the 1st cannon. RoBurning of course. Secon cannon does 2 wounds on the screaming bell, the seer passes the ward save.

Rangers destroy the plagueclaw catapult. The other one panics and is destroyed too. Rangers reform to face stormvermin.
Ironbreakers loose 3 to grind and manage to do 1 wound to the doom wheel. (A very long and funny CC ensues...)

Turn 2 - Greyseers Gergsqueek horde

Axe chops sound from the hill. Karazin have destroyed the catapult. Then the other one bursts into parts and splinter. Kargan makes a mental check to commend rangers for this deed. The sickly bags full of puss fired by those catapults were realy unpleasant. Not only that, but even now he saw Grindi Thukullssons and Rodri Grundsons bodies lay on the dround. It was so quick. They were hit by a full bag, then some horrid green puss splattered over them. At first nothing happened, but then they just looked at him, and before he could say a word, they have fallen to the ground. Another Thaggoraki treachery. They will pay for that. From the wood to the right he heard some "I swear too much" roars. Kargan takes just a little time to think and sends runners to cannons and the remaining OG to engage these. The ratty horde in front of him comes to a sudden standstill. He just sees the Grey seer mounted on the top to chitter something. Green glow emanates from the devilish machine and Kargan prepares his rune staff. "Vallaya protect us!" is his last prayer, before raising the runestaff.

No skaven charges this turn. Then I understand this trickery and after he makes his moves, I know what he will try in the magic phase.

He rolls 11 dice for his power pool. My pool is 9 (take one from him - MRoBalance), but he channels one. Screaming bell casts scorch on the GW warriors. I take 2 dice and roll 1,1. 11 warriors die. Wither is cast and dispelled. Then comes the awaited spell. Dreaded 13th. Grey seer takes the power scroll and it is IF, of course. 13 hammerers die a horrible death and there is another inscription for the Dammaz Kron a Onggor Throng! The following explosion costs grey seer 1 lvl.

In the shooting phase the plague wind mortar scatters 10", right on the top of the skaven BSB head. 2 clanrats die to the gas. BSB passes the look out sir.
Rattling gun then starts to roll. Rangers are in his visier. 6,5,4 - that is the roll. The luck is, his to hit is poorer (only 9 hit) and so only 3 rangers go down (also to wound is not great, Grungni protects).

In combat Doom wheel looses, but holds. I loose 2 more ironbreakers to the grinding attack.

Turn 3 - Onggor Throng

It is time. Kargan said to himself and waved his hand. The ratty grey thing on that contraption will pay dearly for its trickery. 13 proud dawi laid terribly mutilated close to him, where the spell hit. We shall put an end to it. "Charge the thaggoraki!", he sounds the order. His fellow dawi are so angry that they barely notice some ratty shaman to sound some pipe instrument. The ground trembles a little, but that means nothing for dawi. The ratty priest is lucky not to be trampled by the charging and fuming Grunds. Artillery booming, followed up by squeels and roars informs him that dawi engineers were quite successfull this time. Good. We shall destroy all of them! He redies his shield and then there is just a whirling mass of bodies and mayhem.

Rangers and Hammerers make their charges. Rangers are just exactly from the front, so with the ensuing overrun they will be able to hit the rattling gun. GW warriors do not make their 12" charge, but that is no real problem, as I am full y confident about their ability to kill the charging clanrats when they come. Rat Ogres are not in the plan, there are 3 artillery pieces aiming at them.

Shooting phase proves me right. First cannon gets just a pack master. OG then gets 8 hits and so the last pack master and one ogre perish. The other one is wounded. Second cannon finishes the ogre, there are only 2 stupid ogres left in a stupidity forest.

In the combat rangers charging from the hill kill 5 stormvermin and in the retourn I get only 1 ranger down. I rolled 3 6s for armour save. My best armour save roll EVER. (and will be followed by a lot of crappy ones later...) Stormvermin flee 13" (record sprinters) with dawi rangers in hot pursuit, who hit the unhappy rattling gun.
Iron breakers finaly manage to wound the doom wheel twice and I save the grind attack. 1st parry save in the game I made. Great. Doom wheel breaks and runs for it.
So the screaming bell combat comes and I see what I saved my "I swear too much" rolls for. BSB and hammerers go for grey seer and manage to do 1 wound. Runelord is able to kill one clanrat and thats it.. At least I make my armour saves, as the skaven tries to kill my characters with his BSB, plague priest (flail) and with the clanrat spears. He will see, that this will not work, but waste his attacks anyway. Tanky dawi characters ARE GREAT! But he directs at least some attacks at my hammerers and starts to kill them slowly +also the rat ogre has his luck and kills 2. I loose by a large margin, but just say the magic word "stubborn" and stay in combat (on the BSB re-roll).

In the aftermath, the fleeing doom wheel manages to kill 5 more stormvermin as it drives over them.

Turn 3 - Greyseers Gergsqueek horde

Kargan was immersed in the melee. Hammerers were climbing the structure, trying to destroy the grey spell-casting rat. Their blows were not very effective, but as more reached the thaggoraki caster, the blows started to fall much closer. The grey rat tried to evade them, but it was cornered and surrounded on all sides. There will be no escape for it. I t understands and with its last breath it summons a great cloud of greenish vapour. The vapour falls everywhere and thaggoraki and dawi alike start falling dead everywhere. Dawi shouting from left means that ironbreakers are successfully breaking the skaven line. From right Kargan hears clan warriors singing their grudge song - they will engage the other rat unit very soon. With every unit commited and last orders being dispatched, there is only one more thing left to do. Killing rats! With a cry of Khazuk! the whole unit surges forward...

Clan rats finaly reluctantnly charge warriors. Stupid ogres are stupid and stroll 4" forwards. They are out of the stupidity forest, but with no packmasters to guide them, there is little chance of them joining any combats. Doom wheel fails to rally and grinds some more stromvermin under it. Should the warlock engineer survive the battle, he will be very unlikely to survive the aftermath I would say...

Skaven are again very lucky in the magic phase - he rolls 12 dice. Channels one I think. I take one and have again some 9 dispell dice, but the grey seer is still a lvl 3 spellcaster, so it can turn nasty.
Warlock tries to cast warp lightning, but fails. He gnaws his staff in frustration. Grey seer tries to cast wither, which is dispelled. He then goes for the cloudd of corruption, which I let through. Not much happens. Doom wheel gets a wound and few more stormvermin perish. Also 2 hammerers die to the choking mist.
Plague priest tries to pestilent breath the BSB, but I am not risking it and dispell it.

He tries to hit ironbreakers with the plague wind, but grungni protects and he

In the combat rangers loose 1, but kill the rattling gun and overrun. Hammerers finaly dispatch the grey seer. Grundi Olaffsson (BSB) shows his hatred for skaven and he kills 3 clanrats nearly every round of combat from now on. Runelord manages 1. Dawi armour remains impregnable. Not 1 wound comes through to my characters. Hammerers are not so lucky, rat ogre and clanrats kill them slowly off. They remain undounted.

Turn 4 - Onggor Throng

Kargan strikes another clanrat down. Then has to duck under the blow of the thaggoraki with the magical banner. Thaggoraki hits him once, but the ancestral armour holds. Some spear stabs him, but cannot penetrate the armour again. He sends a quick thankfull prayer towards his ancestors and fends off another blow from the thaggoraki chieftain. Hammerers start to dismantle the thaggoraki blasphemous bell structure. The Ogre tolling the bell growls and hits Thrundi Gudrinsson with its razor sharp claws. Gudri falls to the ground as hammerstruck. Kargan notes this in his mind, he will write this fell deed down into the Dammaz Kron. There will be reconing! Unless Grundi kills all the ratmen singlehandily, he smiles for himself. There starts to be a big mound of dismembered skaven at Grundis feet. With his fiery hammer he looks like dawi vengeance made living. Thaggoraki start to push back, only the mad rat thing with pustules and boils all over it still tries to hit him. This is no match for Grundi, murmurs Kargan happily.

Karazin (rangers) charge into stormvermin, but these have enough and flee. I redirect into the wheel, but roll so little for charge, that I am able to bring only 2 models into contact. (have to check the charge rules if I played it correctly, the charge was realy an awkward one).
Ironbreakers charge the ratty screaming bell horde to the flank, but again, because of the stupid wheel, I can get only 2 models into contact.

In the shooting phase, I am able to inflict another 1 wound to ogres and destroy the plague wind mortar.

Rangers wound the wheel once. It holds.
Iron breakers have to sharpen their axes more, as they are able to kil only one clan rat.
Grundi kills 3 more clanrats and hammerers do 2 wounds to the screaming bell. I loose 2 in return. Skaven player still tries to kill my characters, which is great. Their armour is realy nearly impregnable. He looses, but is still unbreakable, so holds.

Gromri Trommgrundsson held proudly the clan banner in his hand. They were slaughtering thaggoraki and will be finished with these very soon. Then a catastrophe struck.m In the front line some dawi got on the slippery ground and lost their footing. Vile thaggoraki were on them in a moment and their wicked curved blades were finding all the weak points in dawi armour. He struck and killed one of these, but was then pushed back by a thaggoraki shield. The footing was treacherous, so he could not put all his strenght into the push. Then some coward has started to shout that we are surrounded. Gromri shouted that they have to keep fighting just a little bit longer and will kill all the vile creatures, but that broke his concentration and a sharp blade has found a way under his armour and into his belly. He killed the thing, but then felt how his strenght leaves him. The banner has fallen down from his nerveless fingers...

GW warriors loose 7 to skaven clanrats! From 11 attacks he makes 8 wounds and I save one. I wound only 7 in return, and he makes promtly 3 parry saves. I roll 6 (5 needed) for the break test and re-roll 9. GW warriors run, are hunted down. My WM protection unit is no more.

Turn 4 - Greyseers Gergsqueek horde

Kargan fights on. He splits one thaggoraki head with his runestaff. But Grimnir is not with dawi in this fight, the enchantments protecting the vile bell construct still hold and hammerers can not destroy it. Grundi kills 2 more thaggoraki and he has to climb on the mound of dead bodies to continue the fight. It is clearly seen that thaggoraki want to avoid him, just always some greenish energy emanates from the bell and they come back fighting. We have to destroy it, thinks Kargan and shouts more encouragement to hammerers and Grundi. Grundi is reluctant to discontinue his rat-hunt, but he is dawi, so obeys and starts to climb the structure.

Stupid ogres are stupid. Clanrats with shields charge the cannon. Stormvermin rally.

He tries to cast warp lighting with warlock (has fewer dice as his outrageous magic rolls went with the seer) - and his warlock blasts himself to heavens. In pieces, of course. He kills one cannon crew dwarf.

The lightning on the wheel malfunctions and does a wound to it. No other skaven shooting left.

Rangers finish the wheel.
Ironbreakers kick some more rats, and as the wheel is destroyed they reform to get more dawi into the fight.
Hammerers can not destroy the bell. It has 1W left, but I roll crappy and he saves. Grundi kills 2 more rats. I loose 3 hammerers in return. Only 3 left.
Clanrats kill one crew dwarf. Dawi kill one rat. Dawi loose, but are stubborn and hold.

Turn 5 - Onggor Throng

Kargan sees as thaggoraki ranks are thining and last hammerers fight the ogre tolling the bell. Rats are climbing over the wheel to attack hammerers and the fight does not go well. He knows, there is just a little they need to do and all rats will be destroyed. Just to find the weak spot. He sees rangers arriving from behind the wheel. Their axes start to hit it, but are repulsed by some greenish shield. The ogre has to be the key to destroying it. He shouts at rangers to help hammerers to kill the ogre. Than he smashes a rat skull for a good measure. Ironbreakers start to push thaggoraki from the left. Two quick successive blows from the ratty chieftain pass nearly unnoticed as do some more spear stabs.

Rangers attack the Screaming bell. Iron breakers were able to reform into combat last round, so they are finaly in a great position to start slaghtering some rats.

Organ gun and Cannon pepper the rat ogres and there is only one wounded ogre left.

Hammerers and Grundi wound the bell 3 times. He saves. Rangers do not pass their fear test, twice. Great. They wound the bell once, he saves. So the bell has still one wound left.
Gunners at the cannon make for this with killing 2 skaven and I actualy roll 2 saves for their light armour.

Turn 5 - Greyseers Gergsqueek horde

Kargan is furious. So many times hit the abominal bell machine. Still not destroyed. He shouts to fellow dawi for one final push. Blows rain on the mutated ogre thing and finaly one ranger axe hits a small warpstone bubble under the ogre legs (slicing the ogre in two in the process, of course). The whole construct creaks and starts falling appart. Toki, the Gate Keeper gets smashed under a falling beam, but all others escape to safety. Ironbreakers push the thaggoraki and slaughter them. The greenish glow in their ratty eyes vanishes and an unpleasant smell fills the air. Squueks fill the air and it is a rout. No rats scurrying away this time. Dawi surround them and kill every one.

Stupid ogre is stupid (no big surprise there). Storm vermin we forget in the heat of the battle (or are being rallied this turn and the previous one, they were not important so I do not remember).

In the fight my rangers and remaining hammerers and grundi finaly take the last wound of the bell. Ironbreakers and runelord slaughter so many rats, it is only insane courage. Which he does not roll.
In the cannon fight the dawi crew slaughters 3 clanrats and I save the one wounded guy (I save at least here). He breakes.

Dammi Burlocksson smashes another thaggoraki head. It is too much for the rats. Snorri lies dead, but so do a score of thaggoraki and remaining have no more will to fight. They flee. Dammi just looks at them and says to Grondi Thukkulsson: Cut the fuse short, brother! Thrundi loads a barrel of rusty nails without any need of order. All around the hill dawi crews light their fuses...

That is the end.
Even should his clanrats southern rally, he has lost too many points. The clanrats then would have been in the shooting field of the 3 dawi war machines with a stupid ogre for support. We decided it was a complete masacre.
Khazuk!
