Hi guys, a short report of my battles at the Warm-up -which I enjoyed - it's a great tournament

My list
580 – Lord of Stone, King, General, Shield Bearers, Shield, Aether Loathestone, Rune of Destruction, 2xRune of Might
306 – Lord of Stone, Thane, BSB, Shield, Rune of Dragons Breath, Rune of Iron, Rune of Smashing
390 – Dragon Seeker, Monster Seeker, Rune of Fury, Rune of Might, Rune of Precision
538 – 28 x Clan Warriors, Shields, M, C, S, Veteran Standard Bearer, Banner of Swiftness
160 – 10 x Clan Warriors, Vanguard, Shields
557 – 19 x Deep Watch, M, C, S, Aether Icon
560 – 20 x Seekers, Vanguard, M, C
244 – 8 x Seekers, Skirmish, Vanguard, C

300 – 2 x Attack Copters, Skirmish
325 – Organ Gun, Rune Crafted
440 – 15 x Clan Marksmen, Guild-Crafted Handguns, Shields, M
4500

So, my list obviously, which as it appears was not the list I thought I entered. I entered the v2 list while my v3 list was the one I actually wanted to play, in that list I replaced the Deepwatch with two units of piewpiew miners. In my only practice match with this list I actually fielded both Deepwatch and two miner units. By accident of course, ahum!

Played against

This was an interesting matchup. My first ETC-ish game, I had not idea about powerlevels, though my team mates gave me some indication that the powerlevel might be different from the few fluffy tournaments we usually play. So the actual player of this list got stuck in Wales, and I was faced by a very nice German gentleman, who, in the light of my skill level, had no idea how this list functioned. But I am not sure that was his fault, cause when he dropped the list I asked him where the rest of his army was, as it looked so small. Magic defence worked like a glove, and my guildcraftedhandgunners (GCHG) and Organ Gun shot his Tauruks of the table, while my Seekers and King basically cleared his main force. I thought I was a prodical son and that the world of compettive gaming was mine to take. BADAMN!

Collin "SA tourny legend" Powers. Meeting my first T9A celebrity awed me a little, and seeing his list made me wonder if I could take him down 20-0 also, like my last match (one can dream no). He is the most casual nice guy, that doesnt seem to be all to serious about wargaming in general. Deployment Diagonal. I figured I push for his archer units and Flame Warden bunker with my combat blocks, ignore the riders and Phoenixes, and rid the earth of this highborn filth. I was going to vanguard out with my shieldwars and characters, march my Deepwatch up behind him, walk the character over, push up and see if I could touch base. Nothing of that actually really happened, as you'll find out. He actually looked a little nervous when my big Seekers block and little seeker block ended up not to far for his infantry, but then I saw a sense of relief coming over him when I deployed my character bunker. And even more so when I vanguarded them up in a lake. And when I wanted to push up in my first, he casually said "you know you can march in water right?". Wad? no marching in water. I never played in water. It's an annoying terrain piece to make, and near impossible to make well! In short: he shot and magicced my seekers to death, by shieldblocks where stuck as it would take them two extra movement phases to walk out of the water (M3 hahahaha) and his phoenixes sweeped my army to death. And oh yeah, my organ gun and GCHG's were right across his Lancers, which I enjoyed a little, as I was anticipating blasting them to martini heaven, and then my GCHG killed at whooping 2, and my Organ Gun rolled 66. I kid you not. The lancers quickly mopped up my flank. Had a blast though, after I laughed and cried, and shaked hands with Collin. Even without my siiiillllyyy deployment and OG miracle misfire, I knew I would have been tabled, but it darn well would not have been 0-20. Or it would. But I like to think it wouldnt.

Russian guy, nice guy. Played a mind trick, positioning his blocks diagonal, which freakishly worked as I deployed my whole army in that corned. This game I just lacked experience against KoE. Their charges are so powerfull and long, in hindsight one needs a very specific way to deploy. I set a trap with my warriors, moving them out and fleeing, he failed charge but only moved 2" forward, negating my trap. Cornering would have been best here, but I refuse to do that when I play vanguard. But vanguarding against KoE is darn silly. He will still combo charge the living shizz out of you. He mopped me up, and, within my playstyle, I made no huge errors. Guy would not let me charge a unit, while I told him I was going to charge with that unit the round before, because I rallied a fleeing unit. He had every right to do that, but at least that charge would have gotten me some points.

So I dont know the true speed of steeds of lust. March 20" charge 19" on average. Left an opening between my block and he was behind my lines T2, killing the OG and GCHG's. Again, cornering would have worked better here. Blood beast are rediculous, 6 high S attacks, than 2-6 auto hit with thunderous charge, man ouch ouch, using WS and Ld of his general (8 and 9). At this moment I realised how low my skill level really was, and that I lacked knowledge also. Was proud to take home 2 points, and set the target for 4 points next match, and 6 the match after.

64 high S shots on average, but not half the combat power I had. Full push. Breakthough, diagonal. He used his Seekers to match my Seekers. His Dragon Seekers outperformes my characters due to high ini. No prob, I wore him down with my small unit and offed him with my lord, by taking a rediculous risk of challenging him, with his DragonSeeker having 3+2+ (S10) on him. Both I slew the renegade dwarf. His shooting devastated my Seekers, with my Dragon Seeker ending in his hangunners alone with two Seekers, and, unfortunatelty it took them three turns to break their steadfast. He made his leadership test on Ld8 twice. The Dragon Seeker had a 2+2+ on them with no save except the 6++. In the mean time I killed his main unit, but I did end up in front of his dual Organ guns with engi's, so he whiped out my warriors unit. My Deepwatch Chaed his greybeards but failed to catch twice. Both had one unit in the each others endzone. I had two socring units on his side of the field, but just inside the 9" zone alas. Very nice older opponent, we screamed cheered and shouted during the highlights of the match. Epic Grudge match. Can't we all play Dwarfs? I kept my honor at least and scored 9 points.

You know how tired you can be during the 6th and last match? After 1,5 days of intense gaming, meeting alot of new cool people, and drinking pretty solid (it appears my team is a party crew)? And then your captain "gives" you the avoindance shooting demon list from hell, litterally, during pairing? You shrug it of and take one for the team. By this time I am starting to understand the game a liiitttlle better then when I was driving over from Holland to Germany, and I new: hard push or corner. I had more scoring units. I would push like blood dwarfs and take that centre. That is what happened. Guys, his list was terrible. Just terriable. shots flying everwhere. Those Igniters fire 7xD6 shots per round, skirmish and are QtF. The battle field was lit up like a christmas tree. Seekers first, as bait, got shot by got my shield troops in position up front, pushing hard. Positioned as such that he could not jump past me without being charged. My Vengeance seeker and small warrior block were key here. A grudge buster would have been heaven, but I dont field one. He started spread out evenly diagonal during deployment, during T4 his was pinnned in the corner. But he took my shieldwarriors out, my Seekers, so when he was all pinned down, it was T5 and I lost my pressure cause my push units were dead, and my king was in front of his troops. alone. Deepwatch at 12". And I thought it was my last movement phase, thinking I started and it was round six. But I had another turn. The guys was baffled I didnt march my Deepwatch to my king and walk him in the unit. A dwarf king is 800 points for him dead. But yeah ,my brain was a little fried. Was actually really happy with the 8-12. Could have been a 10-10. But honestly, his magic sucked bad, so could have been worse also.

Hope you enjoyed. My team rocked, JOSSE JOSSE JOSSE JOSSE JOSSE JOSSE JOSSE JOSSE JOSSE JOSSE JOSSE
