My FLGS held the last of their escalating small-point tournaments this past Saturday. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures, but I'll try to tell the tale from memory.

My list:
Runesmith, Rune of Stone, Shield
39 Warriors, Great Weapons, Full Command
16 Quarrelers, Great Weapons
Cannon, Rune of Forging, Rune of Burning, Engineer
Grudge Thrower, Rune of Accuracy, 2x Rune of Penetration

GAME ONE, vs TOMB KINGS

Once again, a game against my good friend Karen. Her list, roughly:
Tomb Prince, Great Weapon, Chariot
Liche Priest, level 1, Lore of Nehekara
5 Skeleton Chariots, Standard Bearer
11 Skeleton Archers
3 Necropolis Knights
Nehekaran Warsphinx

We played Battleline, on a table themed as a mesa with large rocky pillars (impassable). She took the side that had a larger section of open ground, in which she deployed her chariots, with her Necro Knights to their left and the Warsphinx to their right. Her archers went with the Liche Priest behind the Warsphinx, around 6" from the table edge.

Deployment: I deployed tightly packed, with my Horde in a deep, steadfast formation. My cannon and grudge thrower went on a hilly outcrop on my table edge behind them, and my quarrelers went some distance to my left flank, separated from the main battle by some impassable terrain.

Summary: I shut down essentially all magic during the game. She moved up, and between my cannon and my GT I removed two of the chariots and put a wound on a third. I marched my warriors up towards her chariots. My Quarrelers wheeled up to get a shot next turn. She charged my steadfast warriors, and positioned the warsphinx for a flank charge on her next turn. She killed 8 or so dwarves on the charge, I killed a chariot and a half, and passed on a steadfast break test, reforming to horde. My cannon and quarrelers took out the warsphinx, and my GT killed a Necro Knight. My warriors obliterated her chariots and Tomb Prince. She charged Necro Knights into Quarrelers, and between stand and shoot and the ensuing combat, I win handily. My warriors spend the rest of the game pursuing her Liche Priests and archers off the board.

Result: 1125 victory points, giving up 0.

GAME TWO, vs LIZARDMEN

A longtime Bret player, switching it up with a new army. His list, roughly:
Oldblood on foot, Blade of Realities, some magic armor that didn't matter
Skink Priest, level 1, bonus spell, Lore of Heavens
25ish Saurus with Spears and Shields, Full Command
20ish Saurus with Hand Weapons and Shields, Full Command
Stegadon with Bolt Thrower

We played Dawn Attack, on a table with lots of jungles and marshes.

Deployment: He deployed the Saurus with Spears with his Oldblood, on his extreme left flank, everything else centrally. Skink Priest was with the Saurus that were HW&S. I deployed my Warriors steadfast in my right flank, with quarrelers centrally and cannon and Grudge Thrower between them. (One on far right of "center", one on far left of "right").

Summary: His Saurus marched up, and his Stegadon moved up and shot the BT and my Grudge Thrower, failing to hit. My Cannon failed to wound his Stegadon, but my Grudge Thrower killed 2 skink riders, and my quarrelers put a wound on the beast. My Warriors swift reformed to horde and moved up to meet the Spear Saurus. He marched the saurus up again, and moved the Stegadon up towards the GT, again failing to hit the GT with the Bolt Thrower. My cannon put a few more wounds on the stegadon, and my GT misfired. Quarrelers killed a few saurus. My warriors charged, and the Oldblood killed 4 dwarves, and the Saurus another handful, but my horde obliterated his unit down to just a front rank. He fled, I pursued and caught him. His Stegadon charged my GT, killing it, but my cannon finished it off next turn. His skink fell into the warp casting the Comet of Cassandora, and I spent the rest of the game trying to chase his remaining Saurus unit.

Result: ₉₀₀ VP, giving up 155 VP.

GAME THREE, vs DARK ELVES

A longtime Dark Elf player, running a zero-magic list! Crazy, but it was roughly this:
Death Hag on Cauldron (Apparently, they can be Generals?)
12 Cold One Knights, Full Command, Banner of Slaughter
10 Repeating Crossbowmen
20ish Warriors with Spears, Full Command
War Hydra

Deployment: We played "Battle for the High Ground", which deploys diagonally like Meeting Engagement, but the holder of the summit of a large multi-level hill at the end gains 500 bonus VP, win or lose. He chose to defend, which meant he started with the hill but I went first. He deployed his Hydra on his far left flank, everything else more-or-less on the hill. His Cauldron was deployed in front of everything else, and his Knights in the back! I deployed warriors in horde formation, as close the Cauldron as possible. Quarrelers deployed on a small hill on my left flank, with 29" range to the Repeating Crossbowmen.

Summary: Not a good game for the Druchii. My Cannon shot his Hydra off turn one, and my Warriors made a 12" charge to his Cauldron turn one. My Crossbows outranged his Crossbows, and steadily whittled that unit. My GT killed a pair of Knights. In combat, I killed one attendant and lost a few dwarves. On his turn, his crossbowmen had nothing to shoot, and moved to the side to let his knights through, while his knights failed Stupidity and ambled 3" forward, stopping when they hit the crossbowmen. His spear elves shuffled around in place. My dwarves finished off his Cauldron and general. On my turn, I charged the crossbowmen, killed them and overran into the knights, after the GT and cannon had killed a few more. My crossbowmen killed a few spear elves. I ended up wiping his board pretty handily, losing nothing but around 10 Great Weapon Dwarves.

Result: 1650 VP, giving up 0 VP!

GAME FOUR, VS WARRIORS OF CHAOS

By the almighty Grungni, I hate special characters in tournaments. He ran:
Throgg
9 Chaos Trolls
3 Dragon Ogres with champion
Hellcannon

Deployment: Watchtower, of course, and he has no magic for my Runesmith. sigh I start with Watchtower, put my Quarrelers in it. My warriors deploy as close as possible, in horde formation. He deploys Trolls directly behind the tower, as close as possible. My cannon goes on far left flank, my grudge thrower on right. There were no hills or other LOS to allow me to hit the Trolls from a place of safety, so I had to put them on opposite flanks and just acknowledge that the Dragon Ogres would kill one early.

Summary: My Cannon, Grudge Thrower, and Quarrelers combine to kill all of the Trolls but Throgg in the first two turns. His Hellcannon is laser-guided, and kills 14 dwarves the first turn and 12 the second. His Dragon Ogres kill my cannon with a turn two charge. Throgg assaults the building, and my Quarrelers put 5 wounds on the T5 character! Of course, he passes his regen save 5 times, and gets a roll on the Eye of the Gods Table. He gets a 12: Stubborn and 4+ ward. Quarrelers hold, warriors move up to replace quarrelers. Dragon Ogres get a loooong rear charge on the heavily depleted warriors, eventually grinding them to dust after I killed all but the champion Dragon Ogre. Quarrelers get knocked out of the tower with only 5 dwarves left, and Throgg takes their place with only one wound lost. The Hellcannon bulls-eyes my Grudge Thrower, removing it in one shot. (That's three bulls-eyes for the Hellcannon so far in three turns) My quarrelers shoot at the tower, do nothing. Hellcannon shoots the Quarrelers, kills one. Game ends after Turn 4, he holds the tower.

Result: ₃₇₀ VP, giving up around 740. My Runesmith survived by fleeing the warrior unit before the Ogre combat, and my Quarrelers survived at 4/16 strength.

Tournament result: I got Best Overall, and won a $25 gift certificate! Painting went to Karen with her beautiful Tomb Kings (they've won painting nearly every local tournament she enters), Sportsmanship went to a Dark Elf player I didn't play, and General went to that Warriors of Chaos army. I actually had more victory points than he did from 4 games, but he went 4-0, and I went 3-1.
