So today we had the 4th doubles tourney since they started it in our local gw store. 1250pts per player i teamed up with my mate mitch who also had dwarfs 😉

My list:

Lord: Dwarf Lord-Shield bearers, GW, RoStone, MroKragGrim, 2x RoFury, Roresistance- 276

Core: 34x warriors, GW, Banner, Scout- 384

Special: 34x Hammerers, Banner, MroGrungni (Lord goes in here)- 470

Rare: 1x Organ gun- 120

Total: 1250

His list was something like follows

Runelord-mrobalance, 2Xspellbreaker, rostone, shield

Bsb, Roresistance, Mrogromril, Mrochallenge

40x warriors, GW

Grudge thrower, 2x pen, 1x accuracy

Organ gun

Cannon- forging, flaming

A couple of things we learnt today was my luck with organ guns is horrible only in tournaments, cannons are only worth it if your opponents bring something big, and ethereal stuff really hurts when you're list isn't designed to take it.

We played 3 games all up. First game vs Orcs and goblins+ Vampires

There lists were something like this:

Orcs n goblins:
Bsb-defensive stuff
lvl 2 wizard
black orc big boss-hurty stuff
20x night goblin archers with 2 fanatics
20x black orcs
30x big-uns
bolt thrower

Vampires:
REALLY HURTY VAMPIRE LORD
Bsb-defensive stuff
cairn wraith
20 zombies
30 ghouls
5 blood knights

So going into this game me and mitch were fairly confident. We both know he doesn't have any unit capable of doing much to any of the blocks and his magic would be shut down well enough.

It was meeting engagement scenario

Terrain: There was a large graveyard blocking off most of the right side of the board with a build left of it which would create a nice block-point. A couple of scattered forests were also present, nothing which affected anything, we did have a nice hill to deploy on thought since i won the roll-off.

Deployment: Standard castle formation with my hammerers to the right hand side near the graveyard right infront of his ghouls with bsb and lord. Mitch's warriors were in the middle and after our opponents placed the rest of their stuff my scouting rangers wen't over on the left side of the board to block off the blood knights that thought they'd be sneaky. Our opponents didn't roll a 6 to seize the iniative so we got first turn 🙂 Off we go.

Dwarf turn 1: Not much moving, hammerers angled abit towards the ghouls/zombies, rangers pushed back abit realising they were too close to the blood knights, everything else stayed pretty much the same. Shooting was rather successful with mine and mitchs organ guns rolling 10 hits each and munching 16 black orcs all up, ouch, (this will be the last thing my organ gun does all day). Grudge thrower lands a direct hit on big uns but only kills 6. Cannon shoots at cairn wraith but the shot flies harmlessly overtop.

Opponents turn 1: General advance over the board, they are all in charging distance for next turn now, magic see's everything dispelled while shooting with his one bolt thrower see's him roll a 6 to hit the organ gun but a 3 to wound(needs 4's) 😃

Dwarf turn 2: No charges declared but we shuffle back abit. We both it will be in our best interests for one more turn of shooting to take effect. Shooting see's me blow up my organ gun (a trend that will continue) while mitch's knocks down 4 off the blood knights. Grudge thrower hit's big-uns again and causes 10 casualties this time. Cannon finally hit's cairn wraith and it goes bye-bye.

Oppoents turn 2: Oppoent declares charges with his zombies+ghouls with general and bsb into my hammerers (i smile inside), his remaining black orcs and big-uns attempt to charge block of warriors but only the black orcs make it in, lol. Opponent decides he has only but one option and charges the last blood knight into my warrior block. Magic see's everything dispelled (a good trend that will continue). Shooting see's nothing do anything.
Combat: black orcs die horribly and warriors reform to face big-uns. Same happens to the blood knight and the warriors reform to face the nearby goblin archers. In the main combat i decide to accept the challenge issued by his vampire lord (stupidly). This proves to be a mistake when he reveals he has the sword of heroslaying with the ASF ability. This means he has 7 str 7 attacks! Somehow it turns out i only suffer one wound, my armour saves were amazing. I hit back and do 2 wounds! The rest of the combat goes my way with the ghouls+bsb taking down about 6 hammerers and me killing about 5 ghouls and all of the zombies, combat res see's him down to about 7 ghouls left with the characters.

Dwarf turn 3: Mitch charges his warriors into the biguns which hold and i charge the night goblin archers (thinking this would be a piece of cake) only for him to reveal he still had his fanatics which i forgot... he rolls low for both of them which means i land on both, suffering 4d6 str 5 armour piercing hits!, even worse on those 4 dice he rolls a 19!!!, which he then converts into 16 dead warriors....ow.
Shooting: Nothing much to shoot except i destroy his bolt thrower with the cannon.
Combat: Warriors wreck the goblins but they manage to escape by rolling a 8 to my measly 5. Same thing with big-uns which leaves his Black orc boss and 6 big-uns left running with my little dwarves in hot pursuit. The main combat takes a turn for the worse with the vampire lord molesting my lord by doing 5 wounds all of which i didnt save. However the rest of the combat goes my way and in the end i end up popping his lord due to combat res.

It's at this point our opponents conceed, they still had smiles on their faces which is definitely a plus in my book!

Result: Absolute massacre which they only gained points for my lord whereas we had everything plus a couple of banners.

Aftergame thoughts: We played strategically well by knowing which units could take what and our target fire was spot on imo. In all honesty tho they had nothing to really hurt us, seem to think they're still in 7th ed.

Thats the 1st battle i will post the 2nd and 3rd one later. Next up it's a double vampire combo with some nasty ethereals. Please comment and tell me if it's too hard to read 🙂
