Greetings fellow Dawi.

My apologies for the lack of pictures - I work away during the week and the system at work won't allow me to connect any devices to it or access any photo sharing sites (perks of working at the MOD, I guess).

I tried my ambush list out for the first time a lil' while back, and would welcome feedback on the overall idea. The list is (at 2k):

Runelord, Anvil, RoShielding,RoSpellbreaking, RoFire
Bugman
BSB, MRoGromril, MRoChallenge, RoBrotherhood, RoSpeed
28 Longbeard Rangers, Standard, RoDetermination (Bugman and BSB went here)
30 GW Warrior Rangers, Standard
20 Miners, Standard, Champion, Steam Drill
Cannon, RoForging
Cannon, RoForging, RoBurning

My opponent took:
20 Knights with Lances, including Lvl 4 on Light, Warrior Priest and Captain of the Empire with the stubborn crown.
3 Demigryphs (hereafter referred to as demichickens or chocobos)
40 Halberdiers with a warrior priest
Arch lector on War Altar, with toys
Steam Tank
Hurricanum
5 Outriders
A level 2 on fire (in the halberdiers)

From left to right (from my point of view) my deployment was - Cannon in the left corner, Anvil dead centre against the board edge, cannon right flank. God, I love not dropping any of my combat blocks until after deployment.

His deployment, from left to right: Outriders, Arch Lector behind a building, Stank, Demichickens, Halberdier Block, Knights, Hurricanum.

And now to deploy my rangers. I didn't want to end up getting ground out by the Stank, so I opt to attack his right flank, where the Knights and hurricanum are. The Longbeards go in at a slight angle, so that when I force the charge from them, the Knights will stop the hurricanum from being able to attack their exposed flank. The great weapon warriors go to the right and six inches back from the front of the longbeards, to be able to flank charge in my first turn.

Turn 1:
I get first turn and do 1 wound to the Hurricanum with 1 cannon(!) and misfire with the other - now useless for two turns (!!!). The warriors reform into horde. Surprisingly, nothing else happens.
I force his Knights to charge the longbeards with the MRoChallenge, who block the hurricanum as expected. They win combat but not by a lot. Bugman takes a wound. He's soft and squishy, as it turns out, and will be placed in with the warriors in future games. Elsewehere, The outriders move forward to threaten my left cannon and his Halberdiers and Arch Lector move to support the Knights and the demi chickens set forth on the long trudge toward my Anvil (having been slowed by wrath and ruin). His stank blows my misfired cannon to pieces.
Serves them right, frankly.

Turn 2:
My warriors charge the flank of the Knights. This is going to be messy, and fun. The miners appear on the flank of the Halberdiers who have reformed to be 5 wide, and get a charge thanks to the Anvil. My cannon rolls a one to wound the stank, and I resist the urge to throw it on the floor and stamp the living bejeesus out of it. My warriors and Longbeards win combat, killing the warrior priest in the process, and reduce the knights to one rank and some change. With the stubborn crown they hold. Sigh. The miners take a large chunk out of the halberdiers, who hold thanks to the BSB. Double sigh.
In his turn, his Stank starts to rumble toward my Longbeards, his arch lector positions to charge against the miners next turn and the hurricanum charges the flank of the warriors. The demigryphs get a whole lot closer to the Anvil. In the shooting phase, the outriders knock a couple of wounds off my last remaining cannon. I spank the knights again, with the Lvl 4 down to one wound as is the Captain, and the command group the only other survivors. The Hurricanum is taken down to two wounds, with the warriors reforming to face it and kill it next turn.
The miners take a few casualties in their fight against the halberdiers, but win combat by a small amount. Unsurprisingly the Halberdiers hold.

Turn 3.
I. Hate. Cannons. The cannon gets a perfect shot, landing on the head of a demichicken before smashing into the back of the arch lector and his war altar. Except it doesn't. It fails to wound the Demichicken, and the cannonball stops dead. My cannon avoids being the subject of my stomp-rage by the smallest possible margin. I hate it. LOTS.
The miners continue the deadlock with the halberdiers, winning combat again. I don't reform, offering up the from of my unit to the arch lector rather than letting him hit me in the flank.
The longbeards kill all but the characters in the Knights, and the warriors... fail to kill the Hurricanum, rolling 5 dice to wound and getting 1 wound out of it. I die a little inside.
My opponent gets the demigryph to within safe charge range of my anvil (even with them slowed again). The arch lector charges the Miners (uh-oh) and the stank charges my Longbeards (f&!#). The outriders shoot off my cannon (I think I actually cheered at that point) and the Halberdiers and Arch Lector make a hash of killing my miners, who break the halberdiers in return (only the warrior priest and standard surviving the unit - no points for either!). I am unable to pursue as the Arch lector keeps my pinned, so I reform to maximise against him.
In the longbeard fight, I finally spank the lvl 4 and the hurricanum, but my longbeards take heavy casualties from the stank, and Bugman gets killed before I kill the Captain of the Empire. The Longbeards hold, and the Warriors reform to assist against the stank next turn.

Turn 4.
Its time to do somethign drastic and win back some points.
My anvil goes for the Ancient power and...... gets it! I get two Oaths of Wrath and Ruin off, reducing the outriders to just the champion, and getting six hits on the fleeing halberdiers. The Standard is killed (yay!), but the jammy warrior priest survives. Jammy, jammy warrior priest.
The Stank who does little in return. The miners are being whittled down by the Arch lector in return for a few wounds on the war altar.
His turn and the demichickens charge the anvil and the warrior priest rallies. The outriders start making their way toward the fight on the right flank.
The stank goes bat-dung crazy and tears through the warriors, who flee. The longbeards continue to try and tickle it with their axes. The miners flee from combat after getting thoroughly pasted, and the Arch Lector reforms to charge my Longbeards next turn. Demichickens + Anvil = dead Anvil.
I concede here.

Post-game.
I didn't stamp my cannon into the midle of next week, though Grungni knows I wanted to. I stand my deployment choices - I wanted the Stank to have to cross his lines so I had a few chances to knock some wounds off it with my cannons. It just didn't turn our that way. The deployment of Cannons and Anvil spread out worked a treat - your enemy has to split fire and/or units to take them out rather than angling his charge to overrun.
The selection of the knights seemed like the right choice at the time, but I should have anticipated the stubborn crown in such an expensive unit. In future, I will need to select units that I can break fairly quickly. The miners did exactly what I wanted them to - they stopped reinforcements from entering the fray with my Longbeards/Warriors, and gave them a damn good pasting into the bargain.
As an aside, my opponent said the fact that he had no idea where my blocks would position made deployment a nightmare for him. I think that is a hidden strength of this list.

This was my first ambush-style game, so I will be refining the tactics over the coming months. Until then, please feel free to post observations or critique!
