Had my first game in a while yesterday, against my Ogre friend. 2,500. I didn't bother to get pics as it was over in round three.

He had two units of nine bulls, nine leadbelchers with a level four slaughtermaster, ten maneaters with a firebelly, two rinox scraplaunchers, a hunter and two puppies, and a giant. Not really competative.

I tried to make a fluffier list- my other opponents would wipe me off the table with this:
Runelord in a block of thirty Ironbreakers (MRGrungi)
flanked by two units of ten Thunderers with shields
and a single cannon and OG in between them

In the center I had thirty Slayers alone, then two gyrocopters on the flank, and after deployment I had forty warrior-rangers deployed 12" from his guys, in his zone.

I asked the local tournament organizer what rules we used and locally, scouts do not effect the roll for first turn. I got first turn, charged the Warriors into the flank of Bulls and soundly beat them. Unable to catch them, they fled through two friendly units who held. The Slayers ran towards the river in the middle of the field to get some action and the copters sideled up the far flank.

In the other corner lay my castle, and the cannon took five wounds off the giant. The maneaters came in for the IBs quickly and failed their round 2 charge. As the giant crossed the river, he passed his trip test only to fail the dangerous terrain (necrotic ooze river) and get washed down river. With him out of the way the OG and thunderers concentrated fire on the unit of maneaters and their firebelly. At the beginning of round 3 there was the firebelly and two maneaters left facing the full castle. The cannon blew away one of the scraplaunchers.

Meanwhile, the warriors got shot up pretty good by the leadbelchers. The Slaughtermaster's magic was stopped short and the unit held against the warrior's charge. My warriors got knocked from thirty-eight down to nineteen after that combat round. They held but I thought for sure they would be done for in the next round. Luckily, in round 3 the Slaughtermaster whiffed and the leadbelchers did only a few wounds. Fifteen brave warriors beat them down and rolled a mighty five inches of pursuit, but they only ran three and we claimed the unit and general. The warriors were charged by the Rhinox SLauncher and held then defeated it.

In the center of the field, the slayers held and got hurt by the Hunter and hounds, but eventually eliminated them in the second round. They failed their turn 3 charge into one of the two Bull units, but the gyrcopters got in a rear and flank charge, beating an running down the unit.

As it was only the first half of round three, we called it and got lunch.

Lessons: The Ironbreakers didn't get a chance to show their stuff, but even with Grungi and all that armor they failed armor saves against fire magic. I love the models but am still disappointed with my rolls or their stats ... or is it both? It was my first time using Slayers and they didn't perform very well against a single T5 hunter and two cats, but I got lucky rolls in the third go at combat. Their value to me is in being unbreakable as this list was designed to have hard anvil units in it. With some stomp protection or some kind of light ward save, Slayers would be competative unit.

This was my first real use of the Gyrocopters and they performed well. My intent when making the list was to let the opponent get caught on one of my anvils, then have the gyros flank and rear charge in the next turn. Unable to reface, I would have a +1 charge, +1 flank, +2 rear and +3 extra ranks and +1 standard for a static +8 CR, then wounds. Even without an anvil pinning the unit, the two performed incredibly well in tandem and had enough survivability against nine Ogre attacks to make them worth while. I believe I shall use them in tandem again.

If they got rid of partials on the gyro and let them use a 'breath weapon' in close combat, they would be even more amazing/useful.

Cheers for a simple little game and the ruben sandwich that followed. :drinks:
