This was game I was looking forward to. These Beastmen have feasted on my armies a couple times. I was looking for some pay back. I re worked my 2K list and thought I would try something different.

Dwarfs:

Dwarf Lord w/ShldBrs, MRoSteel, RoStone, RoMight, RoSpeed, Grudge Rune
Runesmith #1,MRoBal
Runesmith #2, MRoSpellBinding
Thane w/Shld, RoSpeed
Longbeard #1 (20) HW w/Shld, Full command
Longbeard #2 (19) HW w/Shld, Full command
2 Thunderer units, 10 models each
Canon #1, RoForging
Canon #2, RoForging, RoFire
Grudge Thrower, RoPenetrating, RoAccuracy
Hammerers (18)

Beastmen (As best as I can remember.....):

Beastlord w/poStr, magic sword
Bray Shaman (LVL 3)
Bray Shaman (LVL 2)
2 - Razorgor Chariots
1 - Tuskgor Chariot
2 - Harpy units (5 units each)
3 - Minotaur
Razorgor (6 pigs)
Ungors, Full command, (56 units)
Gors, Full command (20)
Wargor, BSB

His Beastlord, Shamans, & BSB were in a huge block of 56 ungors (ugh!)

His deployment (from my point of view, starting on my left):

Harpies, Minotaurs, Razorgors, Gors, Big block of Ungors, chariots, harpies

My deployment from left to right:

Cannon #2, LB #1, Thunderers #1, Hammerers w/Lord, Thunderers #2, LB #2 w/Thane
Slightly behind this line were the Runesmiths (hiding behind a wall)
On my table edge, near the middle, were the GT and cannon #1

We were playing a scenario from the league and each player scored points by keeping a character or banner within 18" of the center of the board.

Round #1:
Beastmen go first and basically move units forward, hiding his harpies behind cover. He makes a point to put his big block as close as he can to the center of the field. His magic phase.... yeah right. I shut it down.

I move LB#1 up to protect my thunderers, my hammerers towards his Gors and LB #2 towards the chariots (not liking the looks of that). I start my shooting phase and he whips out some talisman that makes me have to roll 4+ for each of my war machines to fire. I fail on my GT and Cannon #1. So I take a shot at his Tuskor chariot (across the board) and hit, sending that unit to the afterlife, with a grin I might add. Thunderer #1 shoot at his minotaurs killing one and they hold. Thunder #2 shoot at the Gors and kill three.

Round #2: The Beastmen Charges....

Harpies fly right in front of cannon #2, the minos charge LB#1, the pigs charge the Hammerers, he moves the Gors looking to charge thunderer #2, his big block shuffles forward a couple inches to secure the middle, the chariots mover forward for a charge at LB#2 the next round. More harpies fly to cannon #1 flank area, behind my LB#2. (Dang! forgot about those guys)
His magic phase was shut down again. He starts combat with the minos. With all his attacks, impact hits, and stomps, he gets two dwarfs down, the Longbeards take one down, break the unit and chase it down and kill it. The pigs end up killing 6 hammerers and my Hammers & lord only did 1 wound back. (my dice... it has to be my dice...).

I move LB#2 into a forest, which ends up being a Venom Thicket, I lose one dwarf. I move one runesmith from behind the wall and in front of cannon #1 to protect it from a charge from the harpies. I decide to risk the harpies on cannon #2 and shoot at the Razorgor chariots, killing one and putting one wound on the other. Cannon #1 shoots at the Gors and end up killing 3. Thunderer #1 shoot at the harpies killing 2. Thunderer #2 shoot at the Ungor block killing 4. The GT aims at the Ungor block, hitting and killing 7 (not enough to break them). My hammerers and lord kill two pigs and lose 4 more dwarfs.

Round #3: The Grinder

He charges his last chariot to LB#2 unit. I didn't have enough movement to keep him out of the Thicket so he gets poison attacks too! His Gor unit charges Thunderer #2, they get their stand and shoot, which costs him 4 beastmen. His harpies charge the Runesmith on the right side of the board and he forgot about the harpies on the left side, bearing down on cannon #2 (I did too, I was worried about the pigs). His magic phase was shut down. We start with the Runesmith and harpies. He fails to hit at all and the Runesmith kills 2, they hold. The razorgors kill another 4 hammerers and lose one pig, and nobody runs. The Gors kill 3 thunderers and lose 2 in that exchange. The dwarfs hold and do not run.

I decide to grapeshot the harpies in front of cannon #2 and kill them all. LB #1 reforms to try to get closer to charge range on the pigs and Thunderer #1 moves for a flank charge. Combat starts with the Hammerers and pigs. The Lord finally comes through and kills one pig and puts on wound on the last one. The hammers and shield bearers fail to finish the last pig off and lose 2 more hammers. The pig breaks and takes off, I restrain from pursuit and reform for a rear charge on the Gor unit. The Gor unit kills 3 more Thunderers and they don't kill any. They hold, barely. The chariot attacks LB#2, luckily no poison hits. He ends up killing one dwarf, and dies under numerous axes of my Longbeards. The harpies end up landing a wound on the Runesmith and he doesn't wound any in return. He fails leadership and hightails it outta there. He runs 8 inches and the harpies pursue into cannon #1.

Round #4: Dwarfs mop up...

He tries to rally his last pig, fails and it is basically out of the game. He finally casts a spell that gives the Gor unit 1 strentght and 1 toughness, with irresistible force. He tries to do it again and fails to cast it. The miscast cost him 3 Ungors in the explosion (that made me giggle) The Ungor unit is happy in the middle of the board, thought they are shying away from the shaman now. He starts with the harpies on cannon #1. He doesn't hit with any units and the crew kill all his harpies. His Gor unit kills 4 thunderers with no loses from them. They break and get overrun. He pursues into my Runesmith behind the wall and is stuck there.

I try to rally my Runesmith, fail and he moves another 4 inches, not off the field though. I charge with my hammer unit and make it. LB#1 marches toward the Ungor block on the left side. LB #2 march toward the Ungor block on the right. My shooting phase, targeting the Ungor block with everything I could and I end up killing 13. They finally had to make a leadership roll, which they failed, but passed on the BSB reroll. (Hobbitsnot! I though I had them....) The Hammerers, Lord, & Runesmith kill off the Gor unit, losing my musician in the process. I reform looking to charge the Ungors.

Round 5: The Challenge...

He tries to rally his razorgor and fails again and he finally flees off the table. He charges my Hammerer unit, which consists of my Lord, the Gatekeeper and the standard bearer, with the Ungor horde and makes it. His magic phase was shut down. He issues a challenge. I was going to be a dork and let the Gatekeeper take it, but since it was his general, I accepted with my DL. We do the regular combat and he ends up killing the rest of the Hammerers but one. The Challenge was awesome, what the game is played for. He chugs his strength potion and we go at it. He gets primal fury, so he gets to reroll misses. Well, since I picked his general for my Grudge for the Grudge Rune, I get that too! We are both at initiative 5, so we commence to swinging. I hit will all my attacks and he hits with all of his. His Beastlord is a T5, so my strength doubles to an 8 due to the Rune of Might. I get two wounds on him, he gets one on me. I used my shield bearer attacks also, we weren't sure if I did or not, but we rolled off on it and I won. They didn't do anything.

I had to move both LB units and the last Thunderer unit to get them ready for a charge. We go straight to the challenge. His potion wears off, but he makes his primal fury roll. We swing, he hits with two and I hit will all of mine. He puts one wound on the Lord and I finish off the Beastlord. His Ungor block kills the last Hammerer in combat. He won combat, so the Lord had to make a leadership test...... which he failed and was over run. Talk about your ups and downs. Ungors pursue into the wall with the Runesmith behind it and stop.

Round 6: The Finale.....

He starts his turn with magic and I shut it down. He attacks my Runesmith and misses with everything. The Runesmith kills one Ungor.

I charge with both Longbeard units and the Thunderers, they had vengeance on their mind. I make all the charges. I shoot with the cannons and the GT at the Ungors. That might be bending the rules some, but you don't target the unit in combat, you target a point. I'm sure somebody will correct me. I end up missing with the GT, and killing 13 in the shooting phase, they hold. After combat was all said and done, I killed another 14 Ungors and lost 6 dwarfs, 4 longbeards and 2 thunderers. His unit failed leadership and ran off the board.

A bittersweet victory to be sure, but I really had a good time. My friend really enjoyed it, too.
