The tournament used these victory conditions.

[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12534]
My first game was against a Lizardmen army. I was able to get a picture of his list.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12532]

[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12531]
My opponent changed it in order to meet the correct points. We played a Dawn Attack scenario.

Lizardmen 1: We deployed. My opponent got the first turn and moved up as you can see.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12536]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12535]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12537]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12538]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12539]
We moved on to the magic phase. As is typical, I had more dispel dice than my opponent had power dice, and I kept my opponent from casting anything.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12541]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12540]
A little shooting was all my opponent had left to do, which killed a Longbeard Ranger or two but was otherwise ineffective.
Dwarfs 1: I charged the Skinks on my left flank with my Longbeard Rangers, who fled. I passed my test to redirect into the Saurus Warriors, who held. I made the charge!
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12543]
In a stroke of uncharacteristic luck, however, my shooting phase was actually quite decent. I was able to put down his Stegadon with my Cannon!
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12542]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12543]
I decided to wait to use my Anvil of Doom until my Miners came onto the board, choosing not to risk trying to strike any runes. In combat, I lost a few Longbeards but killed 16 Saurus in return, breaking them, running them down, pursuing into the fleeing Skinks who were destroyed, and finishing off with a free reform to face the rest of the Lizardmen onslaught. It was a great first turn, and I felt encouraged!
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12544]
L2: The Lizardmen moved forward, though less aggressively than I would have expected. Their magic phase saw a single spell cast with Irresistible Force, which killed a few Longbeard Rangers. The resulting miscast did absolutely nothing on the roll of a 7, because the Skink priest was not in base contact with anything.
D2: I chose not to charge with my Longbeard Rangers and merely shuffled to the left around the blood forest a bit.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12545]
Both of my units of Miners showed up! I positioned them as you can see below. I was able to use the Anvil of Doom to get one unit into the rear of the Saurus Warriors unit. While this was initially tempting and proved an easy win for my Miners, I think in hindsight it was a poor decision. It left my Miners far too exposed.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12546]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12547]
While I was able to beat the Saurus Warriors handily, they fled, while I pursued, failing to catch them and moving a mere 2”. This left my Miners in a horribly vulnerable position. Had I instead reformed, my Miners would have been able to present their front to the Temple Guard and Scar Veteran behind them.
L3: Taking the opportunity I had given them, the Temple Guard charged my unit of Miners in the flank while the Scar Veteran charged them in the rear.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12548]
The fleeing Saurus Warriors rallied, unsurprisingly.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12549]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12550]
Some Skinks moved back to shoot at my unengaged unit of Miners, while other Skinks moved up to shoot at my Anvil of Doom.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12551]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12552]
His Jungle Swarms moved up so that when my Longbeard Rangers inevitably charged the Saurus Warriors, they’d be able to help out in the combat, and the Ancient Stegadon moved to attempt to help the Temple Guard against my Miners.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12553]
In the magic phase, despite my 10 dispel dice to my opponent’s 9 power dice, my opponent cast Fiery Convocation against my unengaged unit of Miners with Irresistible Force, killing about 15 Miners. The miscast killed 8 Temple Guards.
Shooting failed to kill a single Dwarf. My opponent discovered how futile it was to shoot my Anvil of Doom! Despite 4 wounds from poisoned shooting, not a single one got through my first 2+ armour save. Combat was rough, but between tying up my opponent’s Scar Veteran with a challenge from my Prospector and a few kills from my unit of Miners against the Temple Guards, I passed my break test. My Miners were then able to make a combat reform to face the Temple Guards and increase ranks in hopes of staying Steadfast.
D3: My unengaged unit of Miners declared a charge against the Scar Veteran, while my Longbeard Rangers declared a charge against the Saurus Warriors. Both units made their charges!
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12556]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12557]
Shooting was relatively uneventful. My first Cannon killed the Skink Priest who had been left out in the open, a perfect target for some easy points. My second Cannon put a mere 2 wounds on the Ancient Stegadon. I really wish that both of my Cannons could have seen the Ancient Stegadon, because failing to kill it meant that it would be able to charge my Miners in their rear on its next turn. I knew that would probably hurt. I attempted the Rune of Wrath and Ruin with my Anvil of Doom, but failed to strike the rune on the roll of a 1. Fortunately, I only lost that striking attempt and not the Runelord and Anvil! Combat left me feeling discouraged. My Longbeard Rangers tore through the Saurus Warriors, killing 10, with an additional 3 wounds dealt to the Jungle Swarms, but the Saurus Warriors passed their break test with Insane Courage. My hopes were dashed as they prevented my Longbeard Rangers from overrunning in order to help my beleaguered Miners. In the other combat, I tied up my opponent’s Scar Veteran in another challenge against my other unit’s Prospector, and my Miners killed enough Temple Guard to actually win combat! Of course, I knew it was a long shot for the Temple Guard to break so, when they passed their break test, I knew it was going to be a dicey next round of combat…
L4: The Ancient Stegadon charged the rear flank of my unit of Miners, while the Skinks that had shot with futility at my second unit of Miners the round before were able to charge them now in their right flank.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12558]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12559]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12560]
My opponent could only get one spell through my dispel dice which healed his Ancient Stegadon back to full wounds, but in the shooting phase, his Skinks shot and killed one of my Cannons. In combat, My Miners lost a lot of troops. The Skinks killed one, the Scar Veteran killed one (luckily), the Temple Guard killed 2 or 3, and the Ancient Stegadon killed absolutely a ton! My first unit of Miners were fortunately still Steadfast, but both failed their break tests! The Skinks ran down my second unit of Miners, pursuing off the table, while neither the Ancient Stegadon nor the Temple Guard were able to catch my first unit of Miners who rolled an 11 on the dice for their flee distance! In the other combat, my Longbeard Rangers killed the Saurus Warriors to the lizard, but one Jungle Swarm base was left with a single wound remaining, keeping my Rangers stuck in place!
D4: Time was called, so I had one last turn! My Miners rallied. I used the Rune of Wrath and Ruin on the Skinks near my Cannons, but failed to kill enough to force a panic check. My remaining Cannon attempted to grapeshot the Skinks, but rolled a double misfire! Fortunately, it merely lost the shot and didn’t destroy itself. In combat, my Longbeard Rangers finished off the Jungle Swarms. The game ended there.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12561]
We totaled up points, and I came out ahead by just under 500 points.

The scenario for our second game was Blood and Glory. We deployed as you can see below.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12563]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12564]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12565]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12566]
Dwarfs 1: I won the roll for first turn. I moved my Longbeard Rangers up just a few inches. Shooting was decent this first round. My flaming Cannon shot and killed 2 of the Trolls and put 2 wounds on a third Troll.
My other Cannon was able to take out one of the Mangler Squigs.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12568]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12567]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12569]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12570]
I didn’t use my Anvil of Doom, because I didn’t want to take the risk at the time. In hindsight, I should have used the Rune of Wrath and Ruin to hit either the Trolls or the other Mangler Squig.
Orcs and Goblins 1: At the start of my opponent’s turn, I used the MRoChallenge to force his Wolf Riders on my left flank to either charge my Longbeard Rangers or flee. He chose to charge.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12571]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12572]
He then declared a charge against the Rangers with his Trolls, which fortunately failed.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12573]
He proceeded to move his other units around.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12574]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12575]
I stopped all his spells during the magic phase. The shooting phase was a little scary, but fortunately very little hit, and what did hit failed to do any damage.
Needless to say, during combat, my Longbeard Rangers made short work of the Wolf Riders—but not before they (the Wolves, to be more precise) killed3 Longbeard Rangers! My Longbeard Rangers reformed in order to face the advancing Trolls.
D2: My Longbeard Rangers charged the Trolls. I was hesitant to do so, because it would have been nice to be able to soften them up a bit more with shooting. However, doing the math in my head for odds, I figured I would probably deal about 16-18 wounds, half of which my opponent would save with Regeneration—no Regeneration saves if my BSB Thane was able to inflict a wound. I figured 8-9 wounds would be enough, along with the Rangers’ static combat resolution, to route the Trolls. I planned to then overrun in order to get out of the charge arc of the Orc Boy Big ‘Uns. Both of my units of Miners decided to show up this turn, which was happy. I deployed them as you can see.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12580]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12581]
My Cannon in the middle was able to take out a Doom Diver, while my Cannon on the left took out the other Mangler Squig.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12576]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12577]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12578]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12579]
I then attempted to strike the Rune of Oath and Honour to allow my Miners to charge the Goblin unit from the rear, but I failed to strike the rune. Fortunately, I rolled a 6 on the failed rune table, so I only lost that strike. Still, this really threw a wrench in my plans… In combat, my Longbeard Rangers did not fare well. My Thane failed to inflict any wounds so I was unable to negate the Trolls’ Regeneration, but the Rangers still inflicted the expected number of wounds (16, actually), but when my opponent rolled his Regeneration saves, he passed 12! I dealt a total of 4 wounds to the Trolls, taking 10 casualties in return. My Longbeard Raners lost combat, though not by too much, so I used their RoDetermination to ensure they would pass their break test.
O&G2: The Orc Big ‘Uns charged my Longbeard Rangers, clipping them on their right edge.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12582]
The Night Goblins reformed to face my Miners.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12583]
The remaining unit of Wolf Riders moved up to threaten my Cannon and Anvil of Doom.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12584]
During the magic phase, disaster struck! My opponent used 6 dice to cast an empowered Curse of the Bad Moon on my unit of Miners. He rolled 4 6s! The miscast killed a couple of Night Goblins and put a wound on his Lv. 1 Shaman. The spell killed 23 Dwarfs from that unit of Miners. It moved to within an inch of my other unit of Miners. In the process, it also hit and killed his own Rock Lobba on that side of the board. Now I had a combat-ineffective unit right in the middle of my opponent’s army…
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12585]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12586]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12587]
My opponent’s shooting took a wound off the Cannon on my far left flank but otherwise did nothing.
Combat did not go my way… The Orc Big ‘Uns did no wounds, but the Trolls absolutely slaughtered my Dwarfs! My Longbeard Rangers did a few wounds to both units in return, but it wasn’t enough. They were no longer steadfast so needed double 1s to pass their break test. They failed both times and were run down by the Trolls! Oh, the shame! The Big ‘Uns reformed to face my Miners.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12588]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12589]
D3: My Miners in the center charged the Night Goblins, while my other unit of Miners had to attempt to move around the vortex from the Curse of the Bad Moon spell.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12590]
My Cannon in the center used grapeshot on the Wolf Riders, killing 3 and causing them to panic. My other Cannon shot, but missed, the remaining Rock Lobba. I used the Rune of Wrath and Ruin on the Orc Boy Big ‘Uns in order to hopefully prevent them from getting to my Miners too quickly. It worked this time, killing an Orc or Two, but more importantly, halving their movement!
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12594]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12595]
Combat went ill once again as I discovered my opponent’s trick! (I should have asked to see his list before the game.) His Night Goblin Big Bosses all made way to the front rank of the unit in order to fight. The Night Goblins also then netted my Miners, reducing their Strength by 1. That first round of combat, my opponent killed no Miners due to abysmal rolling. My Miners inflicted 5 wounds, but only killed one Big Boss. The Night Goblins were Steadfast on the general’s leadership and within range of the BSB and passed their break test.
O&G3: The Orc Boy Big ‘Uns charged my Miners but, due to their movement being halved, came up just under two inches shy of reaching them, causing a failed charge! The Goblin Wolf Riders rallied.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12591]
And my opponent reformed the Trolls to bring them back towards the combat.
The vortex from the Curse of the Bad Moon scattered off the table, while my opponent used his forbidden rod to increase his number of power dice for this magic phase. He added 4 dice from the rod, killing his Lv. 1 Night Goblin Shaman in the process. We started the magic phase, then, with his 7 PD to my 6. He added 4, while I stole one with my MRoBalance. I then added my usual +2 for my Runelord and +1 for the Anvil of Doom. Total, my 10 DD to his 10 PD! His first spell was, of course, an empowered Curse of the Bad Moon on 6 dice. He failed to cast irresistibly, but he otherwise rolled exceptionally well: 28 on the dice! I used my RoSpellbreaking to dispel it. I was then easily able to dispel the rest of his casting attempts. His shooting killed 5 Miners.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12592]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12593]
In combat, my Miners inflicted 3 wounds! They killed a second Night Goblin Big Boss, but proceeded to take 9 wounds in return. They lost combat so badly that they needed Insane Courage to hold. They failed and ran off the board. The Night Goblins did not give chase and reformed to face my other unit of Miners.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12597]
D4: My Miners moved forward.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12596]
My Cannon on the left flank shot at the Doom Diver Catapult, but it misfired. Fortunately it just lost the shot. My Cannon in the center used grapeshot against the Wolf Riders for a second time and managed to kill the 2 remaining. My Anvil of Doom used the Rune of Wrath and Ruin to slow down the Big ‘Uns again, and it succeeded!
O&G4: The Night Goblins moved forward, while the Trolls crossed behind the Orc Boy Big ‘Uns who inched forward, wheeling to get around the Night Goblins in an effort to present my Miners with a cohesive battle line.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12598]
The magic phase was tolerable, my opponent managing to cast Itchy Nuisance on my Miners, which reduced their Movement to 1.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12600]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12601]
Shooting from the Doom Diver and Rock Lobba failed to inflict any damage.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12599]
D5: I decided this late in the game my best chance was probably to minimize my losses. I knew my Miners alone weren’t up to the task of taking on the combat strength presented by my opponent, so I moved into points-denial mode. My Miners, with their reduced movement, inched backwards away from the Goblins. My Cannon on the left flank finally managed to destroy the remaining Doom Diver Catapult. My Cannon in the center had a good shot lined up against the Night Goblins’ front rank, so I decided to force some LOS! rolls. The shot bounced straight through the entire front rank, killing three Night Goblins and finishing off one Lv. 1 Shaman and one of the Big Bosses. The Shaman just happened to be the one who cast Curse of the Bad Moon earlier, so it was a moral victory for me, I felt.
My Anvil of Doom used the Rune of Wrath and Ruin yet again to slow down the Big ‘Uns again, and it succeeded again, thankfully.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12602]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12603]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12604]
O&G5: My opponent moved his units up but was still too far away from my Miners to charge. In his magic phase, he succeeded in casting an empowered Foot of Gork with Irresistible Force.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12605]
It killed 11 Dwarfs and immediately fizzled. My Miners passed their panic check, and the Orc Great Shaman lost 1 Wizard level and forgot Foot of Gork for his trouble.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12606]
In the shooing phase, my opponent rolled a misfire (finally) with his Rock Lobba, followed by a 1, destroying itself and netting me another 85 points!
D6: My Miners shuffled backwards away from the tide of greenskins headed their way. (For shame!) Both of my Cannons shot at the Orcs, hoping to force failed LOS! rolls, succeeding merely in killing a few Orcs. I knew I would lose the game if I did not do something phenomenal, so I opted to attempt to strike my Anvil of Doom’s Rune of Wrath and Ruin with Ancient Power. I rolled a 4, succeeding in the striking attempt, but then I rolled a 1 for the D3 units the strike could affect! I used it against the Night Goblins this time, in order to keep them from being able to charge my Miners, which were now still far enough away from my opponent’s units that they could not charge them on his last turn. Despite 11 hits, which gave me a decent chance of causing panic, I rolled 5 wounds… Disappointing for the risk involved…
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12607]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12608]
O&G6: Since my opponent could not get to my Miners and had no shooting left, we played out his magic phase only. I stopped all his spells, and the game was done.
We totaled up victory points, and I lost by just under 500 points.

I had the option to take the bye for my last game (I would receive points equal to the total average of points earned by all other players for that round), or to play Cory’s Orcs and Goblins again. He was up to a rematch (grudgematch, for my part!), so we went ahead and played each other for our last game of the tournament. I was excited. A grudgematch is always fun!
Our scenario for this game was Meeting Engagement.
You can see my deployment below.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12610]
Naturally, Nate wanted to photo-bomb… Ha!
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12611]
You can see Cory’s deployment below.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12612]
Ya’ll ever see an Orcs and Goblins army castle up in a corner before? I hadn’t.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12613]
I had everything come on the board except for one unit of Miners, which had to be deployed via the Reserves rules. I couldn’t find a decent place for my Rangers. I thought it would be great if I could force one of his units to charge or flee with the MRoChallenge, since he would not flee, being so close to the board edge, but I couldn’t position the Rangers in such a way as to be able to do that without also risking a flank charge from his Trolls in the center. I knew I needed to be able to charge his Trolls in the flank, not get charged in my own flank by them… I eventually settled on placing them near my Cannons on my side of the board and go for points-denial as my grand strategy for the game. I had two Cannons and the Anvil’s Rune of Wrath and Ruin to take out Cory’s little units and maybe even more than that if I could keep my Cannons firing. That would hopefully net me enough points to take home a win.
Dwarfs1: I got the first turn again. I didn’t have much moving to do, so I went straight to shooting. Unfortunately, it was rather abysmal once more. Both my Cannons’ shooting failed to kill a single Mangler Squig, while my Anvil of Doom failed to either destroy or panic the unit of Wolf Riders bearing down on my lines.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12614]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12615]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12616]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12617]
Orcs and Goblins1: Cory brought his other unit of Wolf Riders (the only unit for which he rolled a 1 during setup) onto the board from his long table edge to threaten my far Cannon.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12618]
Otherwise, he moved his Mangler Squigs and Wolf Riders towards my lines. One of his Rock Lobbers took out a Cannon. Not good.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12619]
D2: My unit of Miners showed up, so I deployed them next to his encroaching Wolf Riders. My Cannon used grapeshot and eliminated the remaining 2 Wolf Riders from the other unit, and my Anvil of Doom successfully struck the Rune of Oath and Honour to allow the Miners to charge the Wolf Riders. I had positioned my Miners so that if they opted to flee, they would flee off the board, so he held. In combat, he killed none of my Miners, and my Miners eradicated the unit, reforming to face the other side of the board.
O&G2: Cory moved his units forward, now that he had nothing to fear from any more Miners showing up anywhere they liked. The injured Mangler Squig ran into my Miners, killing a mere 3! The other Mangler Squig moved forward to quickly for my liking. The first Rock Lobber sent a rock directly towards my remaining Cannon (on which I was counting to be able to take out the injured Mangler Squig), and hit, dealing enough wounds to destroy it. This was really bad, now, because the Orcs and Goblins now had obvious ranged superiority. I lost a few Longbeard Rangers and a couple more Miners to one of the Rock Lobbers and the two Doom Divers.
D3: I moved my Miners away from the Mangler Squig as fast as their short legs could carry them. The Longbeard Rangers moved around a bit, accomplishing nothing, really. My Anvil of Doom successfully struck the Rune of Wrath and Ruin. I decided to use it against the uninjured Mangler Squig, since the chances were decent that the other one would scatter off the table. It inflicted 2 wounds on the Mangler Squig, failing to kill it.
O&G3: The first Mangler Squig did not scatter off the table, unfortunately, and moved up right next to the left flank of my unit of Miners. The other Mangler Squig moved within about 12 inches of my Anvil of Doom. Cory’s other units moved up slowly but surely. This round, Cory used his Forbidden Staff, again adding 4 dice to his power pool and killing his Night Goblin Shaman. He attempted to cast Hand of Gork, but I dispelled it. Because his first spell did not work, Cory’s magic users were out of range to cast any more spells, so he ended the phase in disappointment. Of course, I felt badly for him, but I was relieved his plan hadn’t panned out. Shooting killed a few more Rangers and Miners.
D4: With little more I could do, I moved my Miners back away from the closing Orc Boy Big ‘Uns and the unpredictable rampaging Mangler Squig. My Longbeard Rangers straightened up and faced off against the implacable green tide. My Anvil of Doom successfully struck the Rune of Wrath and Ruin and succeeded further in eliminating the approaching Mangler Squig.
O&G4: The remaining Mangler Squig moved straight into my retreating Miners! This time, it killed 11… The rest of the army continued the slow advance towards my lines. Shooting took out a few more Rangers and Miners.
D5: I was done with that Mangler Squig running amok through my lines, so I Moved my Miners back just enough to move on top of its base. It inflicted another several casualties, but it was finally killed. My Longbeard Rangers shuffled to the side just enough to ensure the Miners were within range of my BSB, and my Anvil of Doom successfully struck the Rune of Wrath and Ruin against the Orc Boy Big ‘Uns to slow their advance.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12620]
O&G5: The greenskins surged forward as fast as they could, knowing that time was running out. Their artillery hammered the Miners as hard as they could, but despite enough casualties to cause a panic check, the Miners stood their ground.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12621]
D6: I backed up my Miners even more to keep them away from the encroaching hordes of Greenskin filth, and I finally brought my Miners on, moving them up just enough to be within range of my BSB. My Anvil of Doom used the Rune of Wrath and Ruin on the Trolls this time round, killing one in the process.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12622]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12623]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12624]
O&G6: Due to having been slowed the last turn, the Big ‘Uns and the Trolls were just out of range to declare charges. Shooting inflicted a few more casualties on my unit of Miners, but fortunately, it was too little too late, and I was able to keep all the points for that unit.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12625]
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:12626]
The game ended without me even having to use my RoSpellbreaking! We totaled up the points, and I took the lead by 80 points! Another victory for the Dwarfs, and another grudge stricken from the record!
Cory (the Orcs and Goblins player) and I ended up tying for 3rd place, so we split the prize money and sat down together to decide the points value for next month’s tournament (3rd place gets to do that now, evidently). We decided to go with 2345, just for the fun of it. So, I hope you enjoyed the battle reports!
I have a few thoughts on these games. First, I feel I made a major blunder in my first game against the Lizardmen army. I brought my Miners on in a decent position, I think, but I got greedy. I wanted that charge into the rear of the Saurus Warriors. I should have allowed my Longbeard Rangers to take them on, because they wouldn’t have had any problem doing so. What I gained was a momentary unessential advantage in combat. What I lost was strategic cohesion for my entire army. They were left in a precarious situation, which I foresaw would obtain, for which the rest of my army spent the rest of the game attempting to compensate. After good success in my first round, I took what could have been a major victory and basically threw it away, in essence, a classic case of winning the battle (Miners versus Saurus Warriors) but losing the war, except that I didn’t lose the war entirely.
My second game was a train wreck. I horribly underestimated my opponent’s Trolls. A frontal charge against them resulted in casualties I could not afford to sustain, and inevitably, the demise of my strongest and best unit! Had I been smarter and more patient, I would have seen that charging one or both of the war machines would have been a better option, because I would have been able to pursue off the board edge so that the Trolls and Big ‘Uns couldn’t get to me on their terms. Another error was to bring on my Miners where and when I did. The unit in the center should have been deployed on the other flank in order to support the Longbeard Rangers. Going against the Night Goblin unit alone, especially with a unit that depleted, was suicide. As it went, I should have waited to charge, because then I would have at least had one more round of not having to fight the Night Goblins, giving my other unit of Miners time to come in to help out.
In my third game, I do not think I made any serious tactical blunders, though I am not sure my strategic approach to the game was sound. I started out with inferior ranged capabilities, which is poor forethought on my part, because I depended on my ranged capabilities to net the points I needed in order to ensure victory. As it worked out, the only reason I won a minor victory over against a draw was the demise of Cory’s Night Goblin Shaman due to the repercussions of using the Forbidden Staff.[/FONT]
