I was able to get a copy of my opponent's list for this game. It looks a lot like some of the lists I build. We rolled up terrain and a Battleline scenario.

Dwarfs Turn One: The Dwarf Warriors on my left flank wheeled to face my units. The Wildwood failed to visit its ire upon the Hammerers formed up within the trees. Most of his artillery was in range, and this round my opponent dedicated his artillery to attempting to snipe my characters. His Grudge Thrower targeted my Paladin BSB, also covering my Fay Enchantress and 4 Knights. I didn't get a "Look Out, Sir!" roll for the Fay Enchantress, because she's monstrous cavalry in a unit of cavalry. I knew that would be an issue going into this game, but I figured I'd take my chances with her 4+ Ward Save. Unfortunately, I failed her Ward Save, and she took a wound. I was just glad my opponent had placed the center of the template over my BSB at that point... I also lost one Knight after saves. I considered myself lucky. It could have been a lot worse. Next, my opponent's Cannons opened fire. Both targeted my Grail Knights, aiming for the Fay Enchantress as she was especially vulnerable to them. Luckily, she passed both Ward Saves, though I lost another 2 Knights.

Bretonnians Turn One: I moved my units up to prepare to assault the Dwarf castle. I knew I had to, because he had ranged superiority. I formed a fairly solid battle line, with my Knights of the Realm moving straight ahead to threaten his Cannons on my right flank. The Wildwood did nothing to the Hammerers again. I then turned my attention to the magic phase. My roll for the Winds of Magic was fantastic! An 11! I then channeled another die. My opponent stole one so I ended up with 11 power dice to his 9 dispel dice. I started by two-dicing Throne of Vines in hopes of drawing out his dispel dice. I rolled double 6s! The spell went off, and I was able to ignore the miscast. I healed the wound on the Fay Enchantress with the lore attribute. I then cast Flesh to Stone on my Grail Knights. Once again, I rolled double 6s! I ignored the miscast, thanks to Throne of Vines, and I healed a Knight with the lore attribute. I then used two dice to cast Awakening of the Wood with my Damsel against the Hammerers who were just barely in range. I rolled an 11, and because the Hammerers were partially in a woods, the spell would inflict 2D6 S4 hits. My opponent used 4 dice to dispel the spell, rolling high enough to stop it. Finally, I cast The Dwellers Below with my remaining dice, rolling a total of 23 altogether. My opponent rolled all of his remaining dispel dice but only managed a 22, barely failing the dispel! 16 Longbeards died! Finally, the Fay Enchantress' Chalice of Potions cast Harmonic Convergeance on my Knights. It never really did anything to help, though, as I never rolled any 1s for Armour Saves... Next up, my Trebuchets opened fire on the Dwarf position. The first launched a rock at the Organ Gun. I know how devastating those things can be to units of Knights. A hit, wound, and failure of my opponent to save via the MRoGrungni allowed my Trebuchet to destroy it! My other Trebuchet then shot at the Hammerers, scattering a mere two inches and still hitting 9, wounding 7, and killing 5 after saves. My Peasant Bowmen put a wound on the far right Cannon.

D2: My opponent moved his Warriors and Hammerers around to better support his weakened Longbeards, who reformed to 6-wide to ensure they could retain ranks if charged. He then moved to the magic phase, rolling 9 for the Winds of Magic and easily dispelling my Throne of Vines. His first Cannon shot at my Fay Enchantress, hitting just her as the cannonball landed right on top of her, only to then roll a 1 to wound! His second Cannon (the one almost directly in front of my Knights of the Realm) lined up a shot at the Knights in front of them. The cannonball overshot and bounced perfectly, hitting 5 Knights, wounding 3, and killing 2. Finally, the Grudge Thrower targeted the center of my Men-at-Arms unit but scattered harmlessly behind them.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:13153]
Br2: My Knights of the Realm charged the Cannon in front of them. I figured my Bowmen would eventually be able to kill the other one. The rest of my units moved up to face off against my opponent's menacing line of combat regiments. I rolled 9 for the Winds of magic. I had 9 power dice to my opponent's 9 dispel dice. I had the strong advantage, however, of +6 to cast Life spells with the Fay Enchantress, so I hoped to draw out the Dwarfs' RoSpellbreaking this round. I two-diced Throne of Vines once again. A total of 15 ensured its success, and the Dwarfs declined the opportunity to dispel the spell, knowing he could simply dispel it during his following magic phase. Then I decided to use the Chalice of Potions. I rolled a 4, so I targeted my opponent's Grudge Thrower, since the spell had a decent chance of dealing some damage to a war machine. My opponent let it go, trusting the Grudge Thrower's high Toughness and his MRoGrungni to save him. I rolled a single hit that failed to wound, though... Next, I cast Flesh to Stone again on my Grail Knights using two dice. Another 15 ensured its success. My opponent let it go through as well. Now my Grail Knights were back up to full strength! Finally, I cast the spell the Dwarfs had been saving their dispel dice for: The Dwellers Below! I rolled a 27, but I did not get Irresistible Force so my opponent rolled all nine of his dispel dice, for a grand total of 28, just enough to stop the spell. My Bowmen failed to inflict another wound on the Cannon. My first Trebuchet planted its template over the center of the Longbeards unit. I was fortunate enough to roll a hit and no misfire, resulting in 18 hits and 9 wounds, cutting their number down to 15! My second Trebuchet targeted his Hammerers again, getting a direct hit, hitting 18, wounding 12, and killing 9 after his Ward Saves from the MRoGrungni. In combat, my Knights of the Realm made short work of the Cannon and reformed to face the other Cannon the Bowmen had failed to damage any further.

D3: The Dwarfs declared charges with all their combat units. The Longbeards charged my Grail Knights, while the Hammerers and Warriors both charged my Men-at-Arms. The Warriors and Longbeards failed their charges, but the Hammerers made their charge into my Men-at-Arms. I was not expecting them to charge so soon, needing such long charges to make it to my units, and I hoped--probably in futility, I imagined--my Damsel would survive the fight. My Men-at-Arms would be steadfast I figured, so with my general and BSB nearby I wasn't overly concerned. I also decided to use the Prayer Icon of Quenelles to give my peasants the Blessing of the Lady. The Dwarf Hammerers would make for a nice flank charge for my Grail Knights, or perhaps I'd be able to get Flesh to Stone off to buff the peasants on my following turn. Shooting was nearly a bust again for the Dwarfs. My opponent rolled 7 dice for the Winds of magic and once again dispelled my Throne of Vines. The Grudge Thrower started by rolling a misfire followed by a 1 and another 1 (the Engineer gave a reroll) and self-destructed. The Cannon used grapeshot, got 8 shots, 5 hits, 5 wounds, and killed 3 Knights after I saved only one with my Armour Saves and one with my Ward Saves from the Blessing of the Lady. I issued a challenge with my Yeoman Warden, which was accepted by the Dwarf Gatekeeper. The Runelord killed one peasant, the Thane killed another, as I was fortunate enough to make a Blessing save. My Men-at-Arms wounded 4 Hammerers, all of whom failed their Armour Saves. My Yeoman Warden failed to hit the Gatekeeper, and the Gatekeeper in turn hit once but ultimately failed to wound the Yeoman Warden. The Hammerers then unleashed their fury! My opponent directed 6 attacks against my Damsel, five of which hit, followed by 4 wounds. I failed 3 saves, and she died to the Hammerers' Great Weapons! The rest of the Hammerers' attacks hit 12 times, wounded 11, and after saving 3 with the Blessing, succeeded in putting down another 8 peasants. My Men-at-Arms were steadfast and passed their break test easily enough.

Br3: My Knights of the Realm charged the remaining Dwarf Cannon. I couldn't get my Grail Knights into the flank of the Hammerers, because my Battle Pilgrims were too close to the Knights' flank for them to move, so I just had them charge the Longbeards. I then moved my Grail Reliquae around to be in a position to charge the Hammerers once my Knights got out of the way. For now, the Men-at-Arms would just have to struggle through on their own and hopefully remain steadfast for another couple of rounds of combat. My Peasant Bowmen would have nothing at which to shoot, so I marched them up to bring them at least somewhere close to somewhere they could actually maybe do something in the future. I rolled another 11 for the Winds of Magic, failing to channel any additional dice, leaving me once again with 11 dice to my opponent's 9 dispel dice. I still had not drawn out his RoSpellbreaking, so I would have to plan this phase carefully. I decided I really wanted to get Flesh to Stone off in order to buff my Men-at-Arms. I decided to start with Throne of Vines. My opponent had consistently let that one through, so if I was careful, I might be able to get the empowered Flesh to Stone off for the peasants. I used two dice again, depending on a decent roll and the Fay Enchantress' +6 to cast spells from the Lore of Life to push it through. I rolled a 14, successfully casting the spell. As I anticipated, my opponent let it go, saving his dispel dice. I healed a peasant with the lore attribute. Next, I cast Regrowth on the Men-at-Arms. I didn't want to take any unnecessary risks, so I threw 3 dice at it. I rolled 8 on the dice, successfully casting it. It would be empowered by Throne of Vines, so my opponent had to weigh carefully whether to dispel it or not. He decided to use 4 dice to attempt to dispel it. An unfortunately low roll allowed the spell to go through, healing 5 Men-at-Arms. The lore attribute then healed yet another. Now came the tricky part. I used the Chalice of Potions, hoping it would draw out a few more dispel dice. I rolled a 6... My opponent didn't care to dispel it, since it would only be able to affect his Warriors. I rolled a 1 for hits and was able to kill a single Dwarf Warrior. The Chalice would be unusable for the rest of the game. There was nothing left for it but to 6-dice Flesh to Stone, hope I got Irresistible Force, and hope that I would then be able to ignore the miscast due to Throne of Vines. I rolled a 26 on the dice, but I failed to get Irresistible Force. My opponent, facing a 32 to dispel the spell, opted to finally use his RoSpellbreaking. That's when he commented that he still had one more RoSpellbreaking! Ack! Good build on that Runelord. This game was a study in Dwarf magic defense for me, finally getting a chance to play a game AGAINST Dwarfs for once. My Trebuchets both targeted the Dwarf Warriors. The first one scattered far and wide, doing nothing. The other scattered just 2", hitting 8 and killing 4. In combat, the Great Beard issued a challenge which I accepted with my Paladin. My Grail Knights inflicted 10 hits, followed by 7 wounds, nearly cutting what remained of the Longbeards unit in half! My Paladin cut down the Great Beard with an additional point of overkill to add to combat resolution. My horses and Silvaron killed one more Longbeard, and the Fay Enchantress missed her attack entirely. The few remaining Longbeards killed a single Grail Knight and fled. I opted to reform, knowing that the Longbeards would need insane courage to rally. This would give my Grail Knights the opportunity to charge either the Warriors or Hammerers on my next turn. The Knights of the Realm on my right flank made short work of the Cannon crew and reformed to face back towards the rest of the battle. The Runelord and Thane inflicted 4 wounds, one of which I saved thanks to the Blessing of the Lady. My Men-at-Arms struck, dealing 6 hits, 4 wounds, and killing 3 Hammerers. My Yeoman Warden failed to hit, slaughtered by the Gatekeeper with a single failed Ward Save. The rest of the Hammerers dealt 12 wounds out of 13 hits. I saved 4 with their Blessing Ward. My Men-at-Arms were once again steadfast and passed their break test on a 3.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:13156]
D4: Knowing his only hope to salvage the battle was to break my peasants this round, the Dwarf Warriors attempted another charge. This time, they rolled high enough to make it into combat! That would certainly spell the doom of my Men-at-Arms. The Longbeards continued to run, but it would be another round before they fled from the field of battle. My opponent made sure to roll for the Winds of Magic, getting ten dice, more than he needed to dispel my Throne of Vines. Despite rolling 11 hits, my peasants proceeded to roll horribly to wound, inflicting two casualties on the Dwarf Hammerers. In return, the Dwarfs inflicted 16 unsaved wounds. I only saved two wounds with the Blessing! 16 more dead peasants broke their steadfast and they failed their break test. The Warriors gave chase, cutting down the remaining peasants, while the Hammerers reformed to face my Knights and Battle Pilgrims.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:13157]
Br4: It took some measuring to make sure I was able to actually complete both charges, and in the end, I was able to. My Grail Knights declared a charge against the Hammerers, and my Grail Reliquae declared a charge against the Dwarf Warriors. I then moved my Bowmen up and my Knights of the Realm across the battlefield. I rolled 7 for the Winds of Magic, leaving me with 7 power dice to my opponent's 9 dispel dice. I would have to be careful with my dice management, and I assumed I would not get any spells through this round since the Dwarfs still had another RoSpellbreaking left, unless it was with Irresistible Force. Fair enough. I really did not have a lot of options, though, with only two spells I could actually use... I started once again with 2 dice to cast Throne of Vines. I rolled a 7 for a total of 13 to cast the spell. My opponent used 4 dice to dispel it, rolling a total of 18. I then cast Flesh to Stone with 5 dice, rolling 20 for a total of 26. My opponent decided to finally spend his RoSpellbreaking rather than allow me to buff my Knights. I had nothing worth a misfire for my Trebuchets to shoot, so I skipped shooting and moved on to combat. My Grail Knights were challenged to single combat by the Dwarf Thane, which my Paladin gladly accepted. Their fight saw no blows struck that armour did not save. My Knights and horses killed 7 Hammerers, while the Hammerers killed none of my Knights, despite inflicting 5 S6 wounds! The Hammerers passed their Stubborn break test. The Battle Pilgrims fared better. They killed a single Dwarf Warrior, while the Dwarfs failed to inflict any casualties in return. The Warriors lost the combat by 6, were not steadfast due to my unit having more ranks, failed their break test and the reroll from their nearby BSB, and finally turned tail and fled. My Grail Reliquae pursued the Dwarf Warriors, cutting them down before they could get away!
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:13158]
D5: The Longbeards failed to rally and fled off the table. The Hammerers killed 3 Grail Knights in response to a complete failure on the part of the Knights to inflict any casualties against the Hammerers. I rolled an 11 for their break test, but on the reroll from my BSB, I rolled insane courage! The Grail Knights would stick around for another round.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:13159]
Br5: The Knights of the Realm charged the Hammerers. They needed a 9, but they rolled 10" to make the distance! My Grail Reliquae performed a swift reform to bring them round to face the Hammerers' rear. This took them just slightly into the River of Light, which cast Speed of Light on the unit. Finally my Bowmen moved forward 8". I rolled another 7 for the Winds of Magic, ending up with 7 power dice to my opponent's 9 dispel dice. As always, I started with Throne of Vines. The spell was successfully cast on an 11. The Dwarfs threw 3 dispel dice to attempt to dispel the spell, rolling just enough to shut it down. I then cast Regrowth on 3 dice with a total of 20. My opponent threw the rest of his dispel dice at it, afraid to lose the gains of the last combat round. He rolled double 6s to automatically dispel the spell. With my last two dice, I cast Flesh to Stone with a 14, finally buffing my Grail Knights--they needed it badly in this combat where those Hammerers' S6 attacks would be able to eventually grind them down. I was also able to heal a Grail Knight from the lore attribute. The challenge amounted to a pillow fight between my Paladin and the Dwarf Thane. My Knights of the Realm inflicted no wounds against the Hammerers on the charge! The rest of my attacks also failed to inflict a single casualty against the Hammerers. In return, the Hammerers killed 2 Grail Knights. The battle was a tie, and both of us had musicians, so we would stick around to fight again.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:13160]
D6: I couldn't believe how badly my units of Knights were doing against the Dwarf Hammerers! They failed to inflict a single unsaved wound between them! The Hammerers then killed a Knight from each of my units. My Knights lost the combat by 1, but both passed their break tests.
[sharedmedia=gallery:images:13161]
Br6: My Grail Reliquae charged the Hammerers from the rear! This time, I had 8 power dice to my opponent's 8 dispel dice. I cast Throne of Vines on a 13, which the Dwarfs declined to dispel. I healed another Grail Knight. I next cast Flesh to Stone on my Grail Knights with the rest of my dice on a mere 21, rolling 3 2s and 3 3s. The Dwarfs dispelled it on a 23! So close... In combat, my Knights finally killed something. My Knights killed 3 Hammerers, and a horse killed a 4th. The Battle Pilgrims killed nothing, but at least they would give me some additional combat resolution. The Dwarfs inflicted several wounds on my Knights, but I passed all their saves. The only casualties the Hammerers inflicted were against my Battle Pilgrims, of which they killed 2. The Hammerers were still Stubborn, so their break test would decide whether I had been able to table the Dwarf army. And of course, they passed.

The game was a grand victory for the Bretonnians!
