Heya,

I have been mulling over the new book for the last week and have come up with the list below. As the topic title says, my goal with this list is to make an army for casual play. I want the army to be fun for both myself and the person who plays me. I am mainly interested in the character and visual of the army.

My army is a work in progress so it is important to me that I don't invest time and money into building an army doesn't meet the goals previously stated. I have not played a game of warhammer in about 3 years so I need more experienced eyes to look at my list and see if it will meet this goal.

The List:

Lords

Dwarf Lord
Shelidbearers
Great Weapon
Rune of Iron (2)
Rune of Stone
241 pts

I didn't want to go too overboard with this guy so held back on the runes. I love the model and the background so a Dwarf Lord is a MUST for my army.

Heros

Thane BSB
Shield
MR of Grungni
153

Every army needs it's banner! I chose the MR of Grungni because it will provide protection for my slayers.

Runesmith
Rune of Spellbreaking (2)
Shield
108

Runesmith
Rune of Spellbreaking (1)
Shield
88

Yes this is a little boring but I am getting these guys for the buffs they provide. One will travel with the longbeards and the other in the hammers.

Dragon Slayer
Rune of Might
Rune of Parrying
MR of Snorri
145

I want this guy to travel with the slayers. He and his unit will just choose the scariest thing on the other side of the table and say 'that is what we are going to kill!' If they kill that thing then I will count that game as a moral victory no matter the outcome!

Core

24 Longbeards
SB, M
Shields
Strollaz
367

I love these models. I have the metal ones that have just been replaced. This unit will travel with a runesmith.

19 Quarrellers
SB, M
Great Weapons
286

I agonized over this choice. It was either this unit or a big block of warriors. The Quarrellers won out because, as you will see, alot of my units will be vanguarding. If I took warriors they would just be left behind!

Special

20 Hammers
M, SB
Strollaz
Rune of Slowness
370

Lord's bodyguard, how can you go past that! The Lord, Thane and spare Runesmith will hangout in here.

21 Slayers
M, SB
Strollaz
Sanctuary
322

This unit exists to die in combat, they will be traveling with the Dragonslayer and within range of the Thane's banner to make sure they get there!

Gyro
Vanguard
100

Gyro
80

The Air Corp!! Personally I love the models and I think they compliment the vanguarding block units.

Cannon
120

Grudge Thrower
80

I have taken these guys without runes. My goal with them is to simply distract the other player because at the end of the day a warmachine is a warmachine. Perhaps one of my ranger units can be dropped in favour of runes, what do you all think?

Rare

5 Rangers
70

The aim of these guys is to ensure I can vanguard my units where I need them to vanguard. After that, they can just be annoying!

Total: 2596

So let me know what you think. I really have no idea how 'hard' or 'soft' the list is because I have not played any warhammer in 8th ed. Remember my goal is to have an army that is fun but not a push over.

Finally, if you are interested, I will be posting an update, in the forge, over the next couple of days of my longbeards (old metal ones).
