Off to GW I went with the little dwarves in tow for a nice 1k battle vs the owner there with his HE force.
Cranneg Throwinson took a small force to battle consisting of:
Runesmith Throwinson... Ro spellbreak and shield
19 Iron breakers to guard him... mus, champ with pisotl, Ro stoicism
20 Gw warriors FC
10 Iron drakes with mus
10 thunderers with shields

Versing them was:
Lvl 4 mage (high magic)
19 sea guard as his enterouge
White lion chariot
14 white lions
White lion named character (kharc or something?)
Eagle claw catapult

We rolled for scenario and got watch tower, which the dwarves promptly took control of and placed the iron drakes in for some fun.

Deployment was as so:
HE side (from my left to right)

White lions on left flank, Sea guard opposite the tower, Chariot on the right and the eagle claw on the far right on a hill.

Between us was a small forest on the left and a second tower in my right deployment zone.

Dwarf side:
Gyrocopter on far left edge, Ironbreakers opposite the white lions (with forest between us) Thunderers opposite the tower and the warriors on teh edge of the other tower. Hatred gave me a 4... which meant basically nothing.

HE turn one:
The white lions marched forward into the forest and the chariot move up down the right side of the tower towards my warriors. On to magic... Oh how I miss our Dispel dice today. He tries for soul quench on the iron dragons but I dispel, does manage to get hand of god on the sear guard giving him a 6+ ward as well. Not to bad for me at least. Shooting from the sea guard took out two iron drakes and the bolt thrower went through two warriors.

Dwarf 1:
Iron breakers march towards the white lions ready for a charge and the gyro ran down the flank to hit the white lions as well. No magic and onto shooting.. The iron drakes managed three wounds on the sea guard and the thunderers managed to get two wounds on the chariot. Gyro steam gunned and killed three white lions.

HE 2:
The white lions charge the ironbreaks and two shots fly towards them, one wounds and got dam well saved! So they charged. Chariot hide down the side of the tower to avoid the thunderers. Magic again was a soul quench on the iron drakes, but blocked again. A tempest was cast towards my thunderers which I (stupidly) spell broke. I thought it was a higher Str hit than what it is... Shooting bounced of the iron drakes and the bolt thrower managed to fail to kill any thunderers. And so combat... Challange was issued of course and my champ takes the challenge to promptly getting murdered three times. Kills on both sides lead to a drawn combat as the ironbreakers fail every parry.

Dwarf 2:
The warriors aim for a charge on the chariot trying to take out impact hits. Needed a 9 and got a 6. oh well, stumble forward. Thunderers move up as the warriors now block LOS. Gyro moves round the side of the map to sit behind the sea guard. Shooting and the drakes try for the chariot but fail to wound it. Back to combat and the no challenge this time so a straight splat and the iron breakers do well murdering all of the white lions and leaving just the character left. The elves lost combat but as he was stubborn managed to pass easily.

HE 3:
The chariot easily rams itself into the GW warriors ready to unleash impact hits. That was going to be it till the searguard spins round to give the mage clear field of fire on the gyro... 14 S4 hits later and it crashes out of the sky. Soul quench is nasty. Was an IF but only did a single wound to the mage and eat a few PD. Eagle claw shoots the tower and chips the paint. The chariot manages to get 1 impact hit (Yay for bad rolling) and with the attacks of the models kills 4. Then the GW connect and turn it and the elves into matchsticks. The GW reform to face the Ironbreakers to head round the left side of the tower keeping out of the way of the bolt thrower. The ironbreakers combined efforts finally kill the character and they are free to leave, though now with only 7 of the orginal 20.

HE 4:
Reform seaguard. Soul quench onto the thunders who promptly melt. Bolt thrower chips some more paint.
Dwarf 4:
All march forward, or at least around. The ironbreakers move around the side of the tower to get a charge on the seaguard. The warriors think about following but would get stuck behind them and so jump into the tower that is still dripping bits of dwarf... The two drakes take out another seaguard.

We did forget to roll for end of the game at this point and it was all but over. The seaguard saw the dwarfs approaching and opened fire, doing nothing. We charged them into S&S, they did nothing. Got into combat they got 1 wound... which I FINALLY parried! So no wounds... They then promptly got murdered like elves should.

Overall., well a good win for the dwarves loosing only the gyro and thunderes and both of those to magic. Before this game I was in the camp of “oh magic will be alright”... after. OUCH it hurts. A lvl 4 at 1k throwing out a 4D6 S4 DD every turn bar 2 really takes the models off. In combat however the dwarfs did well and the shooting was ok. I think I am going back to my longbeards though, especially with only one parry (and it was a 6) in the whole game.
