On a missive board outside a dingy tavern you spot a brand new notice.

It has been a hard winter and the spring thaw is approaching with a promise of a better tomorrow. Already, the first couriers have brought this advertisement and hung it up in the town of Delberz where you currently find yourself. Perhaps 2512 IC will be better than 2511 and you don't want to miss this chance. You really don't want to miss those 5 crowns a day. You might make more in a month than you did all of last year at that price.

Now you just need to find passage to Altdorf...

If you are interested in this campaign feel free to join us on this adventure into the Grey Mountains. This scenario will take roughly 6 months of play by post here on at the Brewery. I will attempt to keep the pace steady and plan on giving daily or every other day posts to keep us moving. If that seems agreeable then please sign up and we can create a character and you can experience the Old World as you never have before.

Any character is welcome provided that the character is low level (I.E. you will not start as a venerable runesmith or the greatest witch hunter to ever live). Also be aware that the story will take place mostly in the Reikland as you travel to the Grey Mountains so races and characters that would be common in the Empire would work best.

The system we will use will be WFRP 2nd edition but fear not, if you are not familiar with the ruleset your (hopefully) helpful GM will do the heavy lifting for you. I will run the tedious chart checking, die rolling, and character sheet updating in the background so you can focus on the story.

Speaking of story, this scenario will follow The Enemy Within campaign. I encourage you to not look up a lot of info on this as it might spoil some of the surprises and fun. Also, if you ever wanted to play through this game with a local group or think that you might, consider this a SPOILER warning and turn back now. As this is a campaign that is, if I calculated it right, 34 years old as of this writing then you may not have even heard of it and thus are okay to read on. 😛

So now, if you are interested type out a post detailing your intention to play, ask questions about how to play, or just give encouragement to those un lucky souls who embark on this quest. 😉

Alternatively feel free to drop me a PM if you aren't sure if this is the game for you and I will answer any questions that way as well.

Looking forward to adventuring together so sign up now. 🙂

ORIGINAL Anyone Interested in Another RPG? thread post (Saved for posterity as the thread was updated to a Sign-up thread)

So there seems to be a lull in the RPG action here at the Brewery. It’s been a bit since Hero of Rome’s RPG (thank you to him for running it) just concluded and I wanted to see if there is any interest in starting a new rpg.

To this end, Hero and I have spoken and I have looked into reviving the campaign that I was running, Haven Rock. Unfortunately when I shelved it, I packed the material away and can no longer find it. I did find about half of it but am missing some of the crucial bits. I’m still searching for the missing parts as I am sad by the amount of work that I did to create it that now seems lost. I also am disappointed that I failed everyone that played that campaign. All I can say is that I’m sorry again for being the one to derail it.

Anyway, back to running a new RPG scenario. Some time ago I ran my local group through a campaign called ‘The Enemy Within.’ While looking for my custom scenario I ran into all my notes on this one and I'm now offering to pilot a group through a portion of the campaign. It would require a group of 4-6 players and would likely take 6 months of consistent updates to complete.

If you are interested or feel like you might be interested then I will provide some more information.

The Enemy Within campaign is a series of RPG scenarios written back in 1986. For any longbeards, you might remember that the game was in 3rd edition tabletop around that time so it is safe to call this an old scenario. It is very different than most material that is written since in the perspective that it views the Old World. Where most material offers what I call a topdown view of the Old World (it tells the story from the heroes perspective), TEW uses a bottom-up view (it shows what the common person actually sees in their daily life).

As such, it offers a different take on the Warhammer World. For instance, Karl Franz may be a great and noble warrior when he is battling the forces of chaos but to the rat catcher living in the slums of Nuln he is just another power hungry politician who oppresses the masses.

So if that seems appealing to you, I offer a chance to embrace the life of the rat catcher, the wandering dwarf vagabond, the hedge wizard running from the witch hunter, or any other character you wish. Note that the character should not be a hero or even have a tendency towards delusions of grandeur. Tilting against windmills might be acceptable but needs to be cleared with the GM first as I might need to pencil in a few more windmills.

The part of the game we will run through revolves around the Reikland. There is ample opportunity for humans and ex-patriate dwarf characters to have a lot of fun. I guess an occasional elf would be okay as well (might need someone to use as bait at some point after all). Regardless, keep in mind the scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail where the peasants are rolling in mud as a place to start with character creation.

So in all seriousness, if you’re interested here are the nuts and bolts. I will run the scenario using the WFRP 2nd edition ruleset that Hero and I both used for our RPGs. The setting will be 3rd edition tabletop so stuff you know about the Old World might not have happened or flat out doesn’t exist. Your character will not know which orc warlord is ravaging through the border princes or that Archaeon is even now preparing his forces to launch the storm of chaos. In both cases, your character won’t care as that doesn’t put a meal on a table tonight.

Asides from that, the game takes great strides to simulate a fantasy world that is founded in reality (if that even makes sense). So when a problem arises remember that you aren’t always meant to fix it. It is a morally grey setting that presents problems with no good solution. Sticking your head in the sand and hoping all the problems go away is a legitimate response.

Now, if you want to play or get more information just reply and we can reserve a spot for your character and/or get you more answers to your questions. If you have a character in mind, don’t think so much about what you want to be but more how you started out and you can earn the rest in the game. It might also be good to have a backup plan dependent on the rest of the group.

If we get enough interest, we will attempt to get started in a few weeks time to give everyone a chance to see and respond.

Thanks,
