Wn I arrived at the club there were 4 fantasy players HE, skaven and 2 dwarfs. Since the other dwarf player hasn't played against HE since the new army book we switched opponents and I played against a 1500 points skaven army.

My army:
Runesmith with shield, Fiery Ring of Thori and SB
Runesmith with GW, Master rune of Gromrill and SBx2
29x LB with GW, FC and strollaz rune
25x LB with HW+SH, FC strollaz rune and rune of sanctuary
10x Miners, Prospecter + drill
15x rangers + M

My enemy had:
Greyseer lvl 4
warlock BSB (I believe)
6x Giant rats + packmaster
50x slave
25 or 30 Globadiers
6x night runners (those WM hunter rats that can use sneaky infiltrate or something)
2 block of 25-30 clanrats
Doomwheel
Warp lightning cannon

Dwarf Setup:
From my field of view I had the GB on the left and SB on the right. I deployed my rangers in his deployment zone on my right flank.

Skaven setup from left to right:
Gobladiers with the giant rats in front of them, Clanrats with greyseer BSB and warpfire team, slaves, doomwheel, clanrats, my rangers.
His warp lightning cannon was behind his doomwheel.
His deployment
I vanguard my SB + GB 12” straight ahead and my rangers deployed on my right flank to threaten his left flank. I hope I can get the miners on turn 2 so they can threaten the warp lightning cannon and help my rangers.

Turn 1 dwarfs:
I won the roll off so I choose to go first, I march my rangers 6” to close the gap with his clanrats left flank. Both longbeards march 6” to close the gap with the poison globadiers and slave unit.

Thoughts: I thought it was better to move the rangers so I could make my 6” the next turn instead of shooting 10 bolt into his units and wait to see what happens. I marched my longbeards towards his units to put the pressure on him. Frankly I needed to get in combat ASAP.

Turn 1 Skaven:
He moved his giantrats and angled them as to redirect my charge with my GB. He moved the slave unit up to protect his greyseer unit and to receive the incoming charge of my SB. His doomwheel moved 9” up and failed to restrain, the shooting killed 3 slaves. The greyseer unit reformed and moved towards my rangers, the other clanrat units reformed en moved a little bit so I couldn’t S&S if I didn’t choose to charge. I told my opponent that my rangers could S&S since they had throwing axes by default, and he was surprised by the versatility of the new ranger unit J.

His shooting phase was really eventfull his warp lighting cannon did 4 S4 hits and wounds on my SB unit and killed 4 of my SB. The gutter runners failed to kill anything, his warpfire thrower killed 3 more. And his greyseer killed another 5 SB, I lossed 12 SB about half my unit yikes luckily I passed my panick test and I was impressed by the skaven shooting ability although random it can hurt a lot if they don’t kill themselves.

Turn 2 dwarfs:
My miners come in on his edge and as close as possible to his warplightning cannon so I can charge him next turn. My rangers charge his clanrats, the GB charged his giant rats and my SB charged his slaves.
In my combat phase I easily dispatch his giant rats for 1 loss and overrun in an awkward situation. I clipped his Globadiers with my outermost soldier and couldn’t close the gap since the ruins blocked some of my path. The SB kills 10 slaves and the slaves are steadfast and pas there LD. My rangers killed 7 clanrats for 1 loss in return and my opponent failed to roll snake eyes and fled, I choose not to pursue.

Thoughts: I was a bit hesitant to charge the slaves as the flank of my SB would be exposed to a flank charge from the doomwheel he couldn’t fail. If I reformed to receive the charge from the Doomwheel I whould get the slaves in my side and possible the gutter runners in my back. By charging the slaves I estimated that the gutter runners were to far away to make the charge.

Question: Is it allowed to measure the distance of the gutter runners to the rear of my SB? I wanted to measure the distance but wasn’t sure if this was allowed. Personally I thought it wasn’t really sportive to measure it and I wouldn’t change a thing even if they could charge me 14” so I decided against it.

Turn 2 skaven:
Now my opponent had a difficult choose to make, he could charge the SB, GB to help out his gobladiers of he could charge the miners to try and save his warplightning cannon. He opted to just move towards the GB since they were to far away for a reliable charge. The miners were on the edge (I believe 16-17”) of his charge range my SB were locked in combat for a while and would be rear charged by the gutter runners next turn. He rallied his fleeing clanrats and forgot to move his gutter runners. I told him he could still move them up but he refused and said it was his fault he forgot them.

His magic phase was uneventful, I dispelled his first two spells. He tried to cast the dreaded 13th spell with 6 dice but failed to cast it.
His warpfire team tried to fire into my miners and blew themself up and the warplightning cannon overshot my miners (lucky break for me).

In combat my runesmith made way and used his fiery ring of thori and toasted 8 gobladiers who like al cowardly skaven fled, I combat reform so I can shuffle my way out of the terrain next time.

Turn 3 Dwarfs:
I charged my miners into his Warplightning cannon and reform my rangers to receive the incoming charge from the clanrats. The SB shuffle a bit to get out of the terrain.
On to combat, My miners kill his warplightning cannon and overrun towards his greyseer unit. My SB killed another 8 slaves for 1 casualty in return.

Thoughts: This was a good turn for me, I destroyed his warplightning cannon and my GB are 12” away from his doomwheel. Hoping he would fail his charge. On the other hand my SB are going to be rear charged by the gutter runners, I hope they can hold out for a few more turns.

Turn 3 Skaven:
He rallied his gobladiers and moved he charged his doomwheel into my GB and failed to connect, His clanrats charged my rangers and I S&S killing a few more rats. He moved his gutter runners up to my SB.
Magic was killed a few dwarfs in my SB unit and I scrolled the dreaded 13th spell with my spelbreaker and removed it from the game. After this his spells didn’t matter to much and only killed a handful of dwarfs for the rest of the game.

In combat I beat his clanrats yet again and this time I successfully pursue them to wipe the unit out. The SB vs slave combat goes my way he cannot penetrate my armor (and toughness) but with so many slaves to kill my SB will be there for a while.

Turn 4 dwarfs
I charge his gobladiers who hold or otherwise flee of the board, my miners charge his greyseer unit but fails to reach them. The rangers swift reform to face the clanrats.
In combat the GB kill a couple of gobladiers and suffer a few casualties in return. He pass his Ld check and the SB slowly grind the slaves down.

Turn 4 Skaven
It’s time for some skaven charges, his doomwheel charges into my GB rear, the greyseer and BSB move out of the clanrats and seek shelter between the clanrats and slave unit. The clanrats charge my miners and the other clanrat unit charges my rangers who kill 5 rats in a S&S reaction. The Gutter runners charge the rear of my SB who has 8 models left including the runesmith.

The doomwheel rolls a lousy 2 S2 impact hits and kill zero dwarfs, I win the combat by a ton and both his gobladiers and doomwheel flee from the onslaught, I opted to pursue the doomwheel but fail to catch it. The gobladiers flee of the table. His gutter runner fail to inflict a single wound, the slaves kill 1 dwarf. I kill three gutter runners and 5 more slaves. The combat is a draw and he needs to take a ld test since I have a musician. He passes his ld test with ease. The clanrats who charged my miners fail to kill anything and I kill 4 clanrats drawing the combat. I fail my ld test with my miners but he fails to catch them. The combat between my rangers and his second clanrat unit goes into my favor, his clanrats flee and I catch them in a pusue.

Turn 5 dwarfs:
I rally my miners and reform the rangers to help the SB. I charge the doomwheel with my GB and catch him in the pursuit.
In combat I kill his gutter runners and even more slaves and he kills 2 SB. The next turn my rangers will arrive to help them out as there are only 5 models left including the R.S.

Turn 5 Skaven:
He charges my miners again and again fail to wound them, I don’t kill enough and loose the combat. Yet again my miners flee to safety.

Turn 6 Dwarfs:
My rangers charge his skaven unit and kill a lot of slaves, with is steadfast disrupted they finally flee and are cut down by my rangers. Again my miner rally to receive the incoming charge of the clanrats.

Turn 6 Skaven:
His only option is to charge my miners and this combat is exactly the same as before, he fails to kill but due to CR he wins the combat and my miners flee to safety yet againt without losing a single model.

Afterhoughts:
I must say I really liked this list I was in is face in turn 2 without suffering to many casualties. Forcing him to take the charge or risk running of the table really helped to beat the skaven to a pulp. But I must say he had some unlucky rolls with his magic and ld tests and doomwheel impact hits. Because he had to flee several times and rallied his troops the next turn I could charge him again and benefit from my hatred rerolls.

He was a bit flabbergasted when he saw I had only two combat blocks to deploy and no warmachines on the table which made his gutter runners pretty useless. His WS3 against my WS5 and S3 against T4 really diminished his wounds against me which were easily save with 4+/6++ saves.

Although he had a lot of skaven on the table they died quite easily which gave me a lot of CR so I didn’t have to make a lot of ld tests which was fortunately for me since I didn’t have a BSB. I also learned that slaves can be pain as they can hold up entire units for a whole game.

All in all it was quite an enjoyable game and I learned to know a new gamer.
