Hello there,

Yesterday I got my first contact with my local club, whose members are preparing for an incoming 2999pts no limit tourny. I played a freshly returned member, who wasn't in the mood for tournament training, and so he played against me with a not-very-hard list.

My list :

-Runesmith(general), 2xspellbreaking, shield, RoStone
-Runesmith, spellbreaking, ring of thori, Rostone, GW
-Thane BSB Grungni, shield
-ME

-27 Shieldbeards, musician, standard
-2x10 quarrelers, shield, standard

-27 hammerers, FC, MRoGroth, RoFire
-Canon, forging
-GT, Accuracy, pen, forging
-2 gyros, one vanguard

OG, accuracy, flaming
OG, accuracy, forging
5 rangers

His list :
Master of hoeth (the guy who knows every domain basic spell), with ogre blade and a 4++
In a big pack of white lions

1 frost pheonyx
2x5 Ellyrian scoots
1 chrace chariot
5 Silver helms
3 bolt throwers
2x15 archers
9 dragoon princes with world dragon banner and the BsB with some items I don't remember.

Also, he had the item that land a wound on 5+ on every successfull dispell. As dwarves have basic +2 to dispell, and it's not said that runesmiths are dispelling, does the wound aply to them anyway ?

The table looked like this : A center hill on my side, and one on my right on his side. On the middle of the field, on the left a hill, on the center a forest and on the right a big tower. I choosed to deploy centrally on the hill, as I had 4 warmachines and he had a fast army. I wanted to secure most of my shooting turns. The rules were : hills are sightblocking (what a complete BS..) and the forest is too, except for units on hills.
I rolled a 6 for the grudge, oh yeah !

I deployed around the hill, quarrelers under Groth bubles on each flanks, the longbeards with runesmith on the center left, hammers with BsB and general on center right and on OG between them (it was facing the forest, but I adjusted my packs to see upcoming threats from both sides of it). On the hill were the second OG, and the canon (I entranched it because with 3 boltthrowers, I wanted to have until the very end the snipe them). The GT behind the LBs, out of sight of the bolt throwers behind the hill. My vanguarding gyro had the tower between him and his hill. and the other was on my left.

He deployed as it goes, left to right : dragonprinces, ellyrian chaff, phoenyx, chrace charriot and bolt thrower (line of sight on left quarrelers, LBs, OG and the hill). Behind the forest were his big white lions units, that he deployed on 2 ranks to avoid big GT hits. Then went the silver helms, the other chaffs, and the two remaining BTs on the hill. He deplayed one unit of archers on each side of the central forest, behind his chaffs.

I placed the rangers in the forest (witch I think was a mistake, as they didn't do anything really. I need advices on how to play those guys !). He vanguarded the left unit of ellyrians, I vanguarded my gyro close to the tower, and he he moved the other unit as far as he could. He got first turn, despite my +1.

Turn 1 HE :

He moved everything forward, on the left, the dragon princes on behind the hill, but in line of sight, the ellyrians screening in front of them. The phoenyx on this hill, and the white lions on foot from the rangers. The silver helms and right side ellyrians positionned to charge the quarrelers.
Magic. I'm not very familiar with the 8 lores, and I didn't knew what was the biggest threat. He got the regen off on the white lions.
Shooting, I can recall much, he killed maybe one quarreler and on OG crew..

Turn 1 Dwarves :

I slightly repositionned the packs to be able to counter charge. The left gyro went over his ellyrians and dropped the bomb (killing nothing ><), the right one moved 18foots to burn the other chaff with his steamgun, he did grill 3, and the 2 remaining ran away. The right side quarrelers shot the silver helm, killed 2 and... He failed the panic test again, and those shiny elgis didn't rally the next turn, and went back home without seeing combat.
I killed 2 ellyrians with the quarrlers on the left side, and he stood. Then, all my artillery fired at his phoenyx. Canon failed to wound (!), OGs did poorly (somthing like 2 or 3 wounds), and the GT got a direct hit on it, leaving the beast with 1 wound. That was stunning.

Turn 2 HE :

He declared charges on the ranger with charriot and white lions, the ellyrians on the left on the quarrelers, the dragon princes and pheonyx on the longbeards. He succeded all (auto charges for the most), I stood and shoot 1 more ellyrian with the quarrelers. After the princes charged, the phoenyx didn't have room to connect on the LBs so he redirected on the OG and just reached it...
I don't really recall this magic phase, I think I dispelled something with the basic spellbreaking.
Shooting, he got my right side gyros with his BTs, and killed some crew members here and there (1 on OG, 1 on canon I think).

We did the ellyrian first (mistake from him), who did nothing and got run down by the quarrelers, who connected on the flank on his princes (thanks to a good deployment by me, for once) ! They could participate on this combat aswell. We exchanged wounds, but I lost only 3 LBs thanks to the 5++ parrysave. I returned somthing like 2 kills. I won the fight but he stood his ground.
The lions princes crushed the rangers and irresistible charged a bit further, in the woods.
The pheonyx decimated the OG and continued his charge on the hammerers flank (wich was a strange wheel/charge thing I have trouble to understand).

Turn 2 Dwarfs :

the gyro moved to burn his left archers, on that's it. He burned half of them, and they ran away.
The canon sniped his charriot, the GT got a double missfire and couldn't fire next turn, the remaining OG sniped the remaining fleeing archers.
LBS and quarrelers vs Dragon prince fight continued, exchanging some wounds. The phenyx killed 3 or 4 martlers, and I failed to get his last wound away. Here I made the biggest mistake of the game, I forgot to reform the martelers. awwh.

Turn 3 HE :

He reformed the white lions, to get a charge on the martelers next turn.
Magic : I don't recalled, I think he passed the regen on the dragon princes (I really, really should eat that spell).
Shooting, he killed some quarrelers and got 1 wound of the gyro.
Fighting continued with my two packs, I failed to kill the pheonyx and he killed some hammers. I forgot to reform, again.

Turn 3 Dwarfs :

My gyro charged his lone BT. the quarrelers reformed to assist the hammerers against the incoming white lions charge.
Shooting, well, the canon failed to hit something, and the OG had nothing in sight. Maybe I should have moved it.
Fighting went on and by now he only had the BsB and 2 princes left against my full quarrelers and around 20 Shieldbeards.
Pheonyx killed some hammerers and I didn't kill him.. This time I though about reforming, but with the incoming charge I though it would be better to hit on the white lions. THis was again a bug mistake, cause I forgot the 3 ranks hits by HEs, and that I could offer him less hits.
The gyro killed one crew and overan the other one.

Turn 4 HE :

He charged the hammerers with the lions. Reformed the archer face to the gyro.
He got something off that I don't recall, regen on white lions I think. I eated souldrinker with spellbreaking, as I feared for my BsB (I don't know why).
Shooting, he failed to wound the gyro.
Close combat, I killed one more dragon prince, leaving only the standard and the BsB. He stood. The white lions and pheonyx killed all the hammerers. I lost groth, and the natural stubborn from martelers, my general and BsB ran away 1 inch from the table's end. He didn't overan me but connected on the canon. The pheonyx reformed face to OG.

Turn 4 Dwarves :

I reformed my characters, moved the gyro next to the remaining archer units, and reformed the quarrelers to assist the center.
I finally shot the last wound of his pheonyx with the OG, the GT failed to wound a BT with a direct hit on it.
The gyro killed half his archers and they ran away, out of the table.
I crushed the remaining pieces of his cavalry, and reformed akwardly to face the lions with my LBs. The white lions crushed the canon and reformed face to the LBs.

Turn 5 :

He charged and crushed my shieldbeards. He overan them and connected into the left quarrelers. His BTs failed to wound the lone gyro.
I charged one his BT with my gyro, failed to wound until the end of the game, as did he.
I moved my characters behind the hill, out of sight of his last BT.
The white lions killed all but one quarreler, but did'nt pursue and reformed face to the GT and OG.

Turn 6 :

His Hoeth master charged and destroyed the Grudge Thrower, His Lions on the OG (I did not even though about using the ME as redirector..)
I charged the lone Master of Hoeth with my BsB and General, failed to do anything, as did he.

End of the game I got :
1 quarrelers in one unit, 7 or 8 in the other.
BsB. General. 1 gyro. 1 ME.

He did have : his general, most of his lions and 2 Bolt throwers.
He won by something like 100-150pts, wich agreed as a draw.

I did some terrible mistakes, especially by not reforming the hammerers to kill his pheonyx. The beast killed enough hammerers for the white lions to exterminate them in one round, loosing me stubborn and the game.
