So, given that my opponent must be sick and tired of playing dwarfs week-after-week I gave the army a break for a few months. Playing my Ogre army mostly. A few weeks ago I was able to get my buddy over for a few games. Our first was TK(me) vs O&G, it ended badly for the TK. But I'm just starting to learn the army. Anyway, after we debriefed on that game I was able to coax him into playing against my Dwarf army. Sadly, I had wanted to play against a nice WE avoidence list he can put together. But for simplicity he used the same O&G list. Please note that, my opponent has played against my Ambush list in every stage of it's development, aswell as with the previous book. He also knew going into this game I was using my Ambush list, though he stated he would deploy as if he didn't.

Note: This list was technically illegal at the time (Pre Errata update) My Heros are a few points over and I didn't catch this. I have dropped RoPassage for future lists but may reconsider with the new Errata.

Deployment:
We rolled for the game and got Battle For the Pass. I think this is only the third time this has come up for us. I was a little sad I didn't have my normal list, in order to actually use the seperation. I was also worried, as my opponent knew I would be running the Ambush list, and that he may deploy deep and Focus Fire at least one of the units before battle. But true to his word he deployed on the battle line, assuming he would need to sprint at me. Based on my build I set up the marsh and used it to provide some bit of defense incase I lost first turn, so he may take a few wounds. Had I done my job and kept my Hero points in check, I would not have had RoPassage, and thus probabaly put the marsh elsewhere. My plan was to overload one side and "Sweep" the Rangers across the line. A fairly Obvious tactic that may have worked, had my opponent not see it before. Still, my army was in a fairly good place to take the hit on the Shieldbeards and limit the threat too the rangers.

DT1:
I was able to get T1, which means no charges. I had a hard time trying to place G1, as it couldn't quite make the dive bomb on Spear Chukka 1. So I was hoping to make the BT shots harder to hit while lining up a decent charge for T2. Otherwise I just got set to recieve some charges. Shooting, I put the Rangers to work and deleted the Mangler Squig off the bat. The ensuing Panic checks sees DD1 fail!

O&G1:
My oppoenent charges the River Trolls into the Rangers. Stand & Shoot deals three unsaved wounds, so I like it. What I forget... for about the 14th time, is my RoSlownessx2. Based on the distance, I actually had a great chance of making him fail, but sadly you need to rememeber this stuff. Magic: 7PD/5DD. He throws 4dice at Hand of Gork getting 7. I was really happy with the position I was in, and didn't want my opponent picking up a flank/rear and holding me up, so I threw 4dice and dispelled it. Next 3PD Foot of Gork and gets Irresistable. The Spells scatters off cuasing no dmg, while the Miscast rolls 9, in which his lvl4 takes a W, and no dice left to loose. Shooting: Spear Chukka 1 & 2 take aim on my G2. SC1 whiffs it, but #2 finds it's mark and kills one of my gyros T1. Had both long range + Soft cover, but sometimes theres not much you can do. he sends his Doom Diver #2 at my other Gyro, but fails to wound. Combat: My opponents plan was clear, I placed Bugman dead center, can he wanted to take him out ASAP to take Stubborn from that unit. He used the four troll vomits on Bugman, but the Brew the Day proves to be too potent for some Troll Vomit, and Bugman Survives taking a single wound. The remaining Trolls kills 4 rangers. Bugmans boyz are up to the challange, dealing seven unsaved wounds overall and win the combat. The River Trolls break, but alas the lager has hit and the dwarfs aren't able to run them down.

DT2:
I charge the rangers at the trolls. Based on the set up I was expecting not to catch them, but I wanted them to pop threw enough stuff to keep the Trolls away from both the Gen/BSB and keep them running. This leads to the flee through everything, cuasing the DD1 to fail panic again. I redirect toward the Black Ogres needing 5"... and roll a 3/1 :-( Other wise I charge my G1 at SC1 and my miners come on. The Senario was tough here, as he had tons of back space, and I couldn't come on from the side. I ended up choosing to be somewhat center, giving me plently of options and the only way he would be able to avoid me was to charge forward. But, those miners had some distance to cover... Combat: G1 delt a single W which was enough to break SC1. I choose no to overruun, as I wanted to charge DD1 next turn.

O&G2:
The game took a very interesting turn here. My opponent failed an annimosity check on Savage Orc 2, which forced them to turn and move at the miners, but they failed to charge. With one unit facing back, my oppoenent retreated his line. Making my charges harder and putting the miners in a pinch. He also positioned his other Savage Orc group to flank anything that entered the mid. Magic: 9PD/6DD. 2Dice with Gaze of Mork on my Miners, but I let it go and loose 2 Miners. He then 4dice Hand of Gork which goes Iresistable, moving his Black Orks back. Miscast rolls 5, but after ward the Wizard takes no wounds and only looses a single Savage Orc War Boar. Shooting did nothing this turn.

DT3:
So, my Miners where stuck and all they could do was pull the O&G units away from my mine force, while surrendering a good chunk of points. The unit was going to get charged soon enough so, I choose to take the +1S and charge the Savage Orc War Boars and just hope to break them. I also charged the G1 at the RT. The River Trolls Flee a whole 2"! I was expecting them to go off... Next, I fail to complete the Charge which I think was about 8-9'' at this point. Combat: between the Characters and R&F the Miners take 11 unsaved Wounds. and deal 9 unsaved wounds back. I also challanged and took some overkill points. After all was said and done, the Miners lost by 1. But Held! Even though the Miners were in a fairly poor position, they had greatly depleted the Boar Riders. I took this as a win.

O&G3:
My Opponent sends the Savage Orcs 2 at the flank of my Miners. Also, charges his Black Orcs at G1, which I flee and only go a few inches but escape. Magic: 5PD/4DD. He throws all of his dice at Hand of Gork and fails to irresistable, but it was high enough I decided to scroll it. Shooting: His Doom Diver #1 Kills G1 in a single hit. My Opponent follows up with hitting the Rangers with; SC1 dealing 2Ws, and DD2 which blows. Combat: the Savage Orc 2 deals 6ws and the Boar Boyz deal another 5. The remaining Miners deal only 2 toward the Savage Orc Boar Boyz. Being down so many the Miners break, but flee 9". My Opponents Pursue rolls fail and they get cuaght up pretty much on the spot, while I pop through the River Trolls.

DT4:
The game was going fast but not much really has happened. I needed to get these units into combat somehwere and get some actual points! I delcare charge Rangers on Savage Orc Boars, he Holds and I only need 5". I roll 3/1 again! Next the Shieldbeards needs a decent 8 to meet the Savage Orcs 1 and fail... But I rally the Miners. Setting them up 5wide and deep. I'm getting nervous at this point. I've yet to get into combat with my Shieldbeards, and can't make a charge.

O&G4:
My Opponent charges his Warboss out of the War Boarz group against my Miners. He then backs up the rest of his army to keep the charge ranges long for me. It's a close game at this point, and my opponent has faced my dwarfs enough to know, unless you're witch elves w/ cualdren... then you need Support to take on a Dwarf horde of these sizes. Magic: 7PD/8DD cause I get 6 plus two channel! My opponent 6Dices Hand of Gork and Iresistable... Wasting my rare channels. He got the Savage Orc 1 out of Charge Danger, and then rolled 12 for Miscast and lost a single level. Shooting: All my opponent had open was Doom Diver 1, and when he fired it's exploded. Combat: the Orc general dealt 4Ws, while the miners dealt a single wound in return. But I had steadfast, which means nothing!! As I roll a 10, and am sitting outside of reroll range. So there goes my Miner unit to a silly Savage Orc War Boss...

DT5:
I knew I was down, though not a whole lot has been lost on either side. So I figured if I could grab one decent unit then I could atleast see a draw. My Charge ranges were long, and I've been rolling like "I Swear too much". So I decided to just shoot the Rangers and advance with the Shieldbeards. Shooting: The trolls where depleted and I wanted those points (in hindsight this was probabaly not the best choice) 20shots landing 7Ws... but he Regens 6! Not happy.

O&G5:
At this point, all my Opponent had to do was sit back and wait for the win. But alas, Animosity... Fails on both the Savage Orc 2 and Savage Orce Boar Boyz. It may look off, but the Shieldbeards where closest for both. And after the rolls they both make it into combat with my Shieldbeards! After this, my Opponent decided to go All in. Needing to block my Rangers and Support, he Charges the River Trolls and Black Orcs. As fate would have it, his depleted Rivier trolls made it and the Black orcs on the flank failed. I choose to S&S the Trolls, 8shots wound, then my opponent goes and regens 6! really SIX!!!. Bah, he's still down too two River Trolls. In the first combat the trolls killed a few. And my Rangers deleted the River Trolls.

I don't have the exact notes on the Savage Orc 2 plus Boar Boyz fight against the Shield Beards. But, we all held. At this point my opponent knew he was about to get a Silver Horn charge into the Savage Orcs 2. With the finish on the River Trolls, Savage Orc War Boyz, and Savage Orcs 2. My opponent had no chance unless he could get the Rangers or Shield beards. This would've come down to a failed rerolable break test off a long BO charge. Either way we called it as a Dwarf Win.

Debrief;
-I just wanted to address the Illegal usage of points in Heros. As dropping the RoPassage too RoFurnace would have made the list legal. And as I was the one to place the Marsh, had I not had RoPassage then it would have just been placed else where.

-RoSlowness always seems to be more of a burden. Not beucase it's bad... I just always forget about it. In this list, I like the idea of RoSlownessx2 in order to possibly stop a double charge from the opponent on T1. Or Any charge, setting up a great counter-charge. But, I always seem to forget about it.

-I'm not sure I would have changed much else. I feel like my biggest issue was failing some Statisticlly easy Charges. But that Balanced out by My opponent failing Animonsity all over the place.

-This is one of the few times I am actually comfertable looking back at my deployment and liking where I was at. I should have tried to keep the gyros near the Grungni (or atleast one) for the first turn. But otherwise, I feel like I was set up for the Shieldbeards to really shine, had my opponent engaged. And the Rangers had no worry from flank and only taking managable single units from the front.
