Hello fellow dawi,

I am proud to present you with one more of my victories against skaven.

As we of Karak Onggor heard about the plight of our allies of Karak Angkol, we sent our forces to relieve our besieged relatives. Oaths of honor demanded that from us. So we went.

Hear the story of our mighty battle!
(And have some beer, of course!) :drinks:

Deployment

Kargan surveyed the field. He catched those filthy thaggorakki, finaly. Some reckoning has to be done for the misdeed of fell ratmen at Karak Angkol. As soon as the nearly dead from exhaustion beardling has come to him with the dire news of what happened in Karak Angkol, he gathered his throng and inflamed them with his speech. There was a standing bound of honor between Karak Angkol and Karak Onggor.

After the withdrawal of those dark elgi he had secured the whole southern frontier of the clan territory. His dawi brethern have cleansed some remaining pockets of opportunistic grobbi and urk filth, buried dead dawi colonists and helped to repair defenses of the remaining mines. He was contemplating if to return back to Karag Onggor, when the messenger came. He knew how his rik Targ would handle the situation so he went straight for his gathering speech. Dawi honor and bounds left him no other way.

Now he stood on an icy field, his force taking advantage of a nearly overrun outpost of Karak Angkol. There was no need for a rousing speech. Bodies of dead dawi spread amongst the heaps of the dead thaggoraki was enough of a speech. They will destroy these filth.

Deployment skaven - Left to right.
Rat ogres, Warlock engineer, Smaller clanrats, Warpfire thrower, Abomination, Jackpot clanrats with bell, seer, plague priest and BSB, poison wind mortar, abomination, storm vermin with stormbanner, rattling gun, doom wheel.

Deployment dawi - Left to right.
Rangers (deployed normaly), OG, both cannons in the ruin, Hammerers with the lord, GW horde, second OG, Supporting hammerers with BSB.

Turn 1 - Onggor Throng

Thaggoraki are in confusion, because of the sudden appearance of another dawi force. "And what a force!", humed Kargan proudly. His dawi deployed in a tight formation, having only rangers and one Organ gun on a far left flank for a diversion duty. Kargan was not happy about asking his Karazin to do this, but they understood. They are dawi. No need to say any more.

He was proud to see as his Karazin marched towards the lumbering Rat mutants. there were not many of them, but they were dawi and he fully expected them to kill many a rat. No mather the size. He still sent runners to artillery crews to give support to those brave souls. First cannon fired and hit the biggest mutant. A burning missile seared its flesh and the abomination squeeled.

As he was congratulating himself to his forsight of placing a Rune of Burning on the cannon, a strange wind came. Suddenly visibility dropped and small storm came out from nowhere. Some dastardly thaggoraki magic, thats for sure! Kargan could not find the source and so he was unable to try and remove this spell even in his considerable wisdom.
All other war machine crews had a trouble to get their guns firing. Small or bigger problem here or there. Too much snow in a perfectly clean cannon in the space of seconds being realy just an "icing" on the cake...

Turn 1 - Greyseers Gergsqueek horde

Grey seer Sizzlik surveyed his horde from atop of his mighty screaming bell.
What a pinnacle of skaven technology. Bigger than anything those funny dwarfs had, sending strong waves of magic everywhere. His warriors were obeying his every command without any hesitation, not needing even to look at his always hungry ogre, who was tolling the Bell. Not much at least. He sent his mind soaring over the field. Those bearded maniacs brought some of their machinery, which had to be destroyed quick, quick! Every skaven in the force has heard him: "Go and kill-maim those bearded things. Kill-kill and taste their guts. Many breeders and warptokens to those who capture the machines!". With such a peak of oratory art the horde of warriors surged forward.

Those dullards! They did not look under their paws and then went-pushed his bell into a bog!
Five of the dullards disappeared in the murky waters and the rest went on to push the bell further forwards.

At least abominations were doing a swift progress. As a proper skaven leader he was suddenly very proud of his intelect for sending the beasts forward to kill as many beards as possible. That was a stroke of genius worthy of the mightiest of the skaven. Place in the council of thirteen was waiting only for his wisdom! Sizzlik squeeked in enjoyment. He ordered straigh away the stormbanner to be unleashed and now most of the bearded machines could not shoot. Great!

Proud for his genius he chewed on some warpstone and sent the curse of the 13th on the biggest regiment of the bearded ones. He felt some counterpush and for a while feared his spell would be broken. But then he saw ten beards vanish and die as horrible mutated rats -killed by their comrades. That shall teach the bearded ones true fear of the skaven magic!

He did cast the curse on a 15. With six dice and +4 for his grey seer. I rolled 5 dice. Total rolled was 12 (on 5 dice) + 2 for dawi. Not enough. My only luck was that low rolls continued and he rolled "ONLY" 10 on a 4D6. I made a mistake by not dispelling with 6 dice here. Simply greed which did not pay off.

At least his right abom has suffered a wound from the marsh, but loosing 10 hammerers due to my greed and bad luck was not a good start. Not in a Blood&Glory scennario.

Turn 2 - Onggor Throng

The storm continued. Kargan was one very unhappy dwarf. He liked a good battle, but hated to send his dawi into a premature fight where many would find their deaths. His head hurt from the failed attempt to dispell the grey rats spell. His brethern lied at his feet, horribly mutated and only because he was unable to crush the feeble spell. He will redeem himself in battle!
He ordered the line forward. He heard dawi war songs to be chanted along the line and a huge outcry as rangers attacked the ogre mutants.

He urged the crews to shoot at least some, lest the brave Karazin be overwhelmed.
Barag ong then roared. The burning cannon ball went straight for the big monster on the left. It hit it straight into its belly and went through. The beast just squeled and then went flat on the snow. Black blood oozing from the hole. Its lifeless husk a testimony to the deadliness of dawi barags.
He heard then a rapid fire - succesive bursts of a few barrels sending forth their load. The Dronbarag was firing at last. Another cheer went from the dawi lines as one of the thaggoraki contraptions disappeared in the red mist.

Roars and sqeeks from the left then draw his attention. Even as he turned his head he knew what he will see. Dead mutants on the left flank and the rest of the monsters being run down by his Karazin. Mighty reckoners these dawi!

Some people do not think dawi will charge, still set in the ways of the 7th edition. But we will, we do and we succeed quite often, if we plan this carefully.
As soon as rangers passed their fear test (a usual occurence on a Ld9) I knew I will be fine. Result was destroyed ogres and a panicked warlock. +15 GW dawi in enemys flank.
War machines worked even in spite of the Stormbanner. One abomination and a plague wind mortar finished. Things were looking up.

Turn 2 - Greyseers Gergsqueek horde

Grey seer Sizzlik was anoyed. Yes, he made some beards die horribly, but his expencive abomination was gone and that excuse for rat ogres got chopped to pieces by those bearded infiltrators on his right flank.
"I will kill those bearded interlopers, who impose themselves upon such great minds as the one of this humble servant of the Horned Rat!", he squeeked for himself. His inbred skaven caution then took over. After a certain consideration he sent forwards other clan Moudler and Skryre minions. Maybe some of his rivals paid handsomely for him to get inferior quality troops, so better to test before he commited himself and his household troops.

Sizzlik surveyed the field and his whiskers twitched at what he saw. Warpfire thrower has missed the infiltrators. That was not good. Not at all. He gnawedhis tail in frustration as he saw that cowardly warlock engineer Skrikit to flee from bearded ones. He should have smitten them with lightning and fury, not fled for them like a cowardly pup! For a short time he was contemplating to blast the coward with his awesome magic, but then decided against it. That can be done later and he needed to get rid of those pesky war machines the bearded ones started to thin his ranks with.

He invoked the Horned rat and squeeked in extasy at the power surge comming from him. He will rupture the earth beneath these and let underworld daemons swallow them whole. The earth started to tremble and he heard squeks of pure horror from his own followers. Then the bearded thing has waved its staff and he felt the spell escaping him into void. What a frustration. What an ignomious fate for such a mighty spell.

Abomination and the skryre doom wheel neared the enemy ranks. He shall see and wait-sit as to how they performed.

I was lucky he missed the rangers with his warpfire thrower. He simply rolled too little to reach the unit by a hairs breadth. I think he hit one dawi, but was unable to wound him, so no panic test or fiery destruction for my mighty Karazin rangers.

He rolled well for the cracks call, so I used my spellbreaker not willing to loose a machine this early in the game. Then I proceeded to dispell all of his spells.

Turn 3 - Onggor Throng

The fell windstorm abated. Finaly!

There was no time to wait and dawi surged forward.
Warriors and the second unit of royal guard under Grundi´s command hit the lumbering abomination. Kargan saw Grundi wielding his fiery hammer and was quite confident that he and his brethren will prevail in the combat.

He marched to be able to shield his brethren from the enemy. If no help could come to the thaggoraki center, then he will have them destroyed. Soon.

Artillery crews could finaly concentrate on firing their barags. A cannonade resounded in the valley. To the left, several of vile ratmen fell dead from the Zharrthrunds deadly and accurate volley. To the right the wheel contraption shuddered under impacts from the Dronbarag.

Cannon crews aimed for the bell and the vile thaggoraki sorcerer on top of it. Barag ong fired and the bell resounded with vile energy and an eyrie green shield deflected the cannonball. Barag tuk fired. Kargans attuned senses cried as he saw ancestor energies to fight the vile thaggoraki sorcery. He prayed to Grungni and Valaya to punish that rat sorcerer for his fell deeds and for those of his vile kin, as well.
Ancestors heard his prayer!
The rune inscribed cannon ball has hit the haphazard contraption straight in the middle, leaving only a smear in the place of the sorcerer and then smashing the whole thing appart!
Grungni and Valaya be praised!

Grundi swung his fiery hammer, ancestral runes blazing in the sun. He hit the thing, but could not wound it. Tha abominable thing was simply too tough. The thing swung with its hoorible fangs and claws and ripped a few fellow dawi appart. They were dawi, Azul Grund, the second unit of their Riks hearthguard. There was no weakness in their hearts. They hit back and he saw their huge hammers hitting snouts and leaving huge gashes in the things flanks. Some of them knitted together, but the damage was too big shrugg off. He saw then a disciplined horde of dawi clan warriors, heartened by the hammerer resolve, engage the monster and many axe strokes have hit the monster. That was too much for the monster. With an unearthly sqeel it has fallen down and bled the black blood from his wounds. "Khazuk!", sounded from the fellow throats.

This round has prooven how deadly can dawi artillery be.
Both OGs have rolled 10 hit results (one on a re-roll) and then cannons aimed for the grey seers screaming bell. I hoped to damage it.
First shot he warded with ease, but with the second shot (after a fervent invocation of Valaya and Grungni) it was different. He failed the seer. I wounded and rolled 6 wounds. Nice. Then I proceeded to wound the screaming bell already feeling very good. No more cursed thirteen spells is nice. He did not save it. A mischievous glimmer in me came with a thought like: "It would be fun if I would roll a 6, wouldn´t it?" What do you think I rolled? A bloody six!

Herewith I announce the best shot of my warhammer career to happen in this instance!
And you know why?
Because I did not have glued models for the crew, yet, so I used Gotrek and Felix models from the 5th edition as my crew dawi! Results guaranteed!

After that I was unable to wound abomination with my fiery BSB, but killed it afterwards with hammerers and warrior horde. GWs rock! (He used his flaming fist attack on the hammerers -so they got a -1 to hit).

GW warriors overrun into the Screamingbellless unit of clanrats and Hammerers reformed to face Stormvermin. One more standard to go and he would be finished - he had only a fortitude of 4 at the time and break point of 3.

Turn 3 - Greyseers Gergsqueek horde

Plague priest Skreechtik was not a happy skaven. Battleplan in tatters and that incompetent Sizzlik has let blast himself into smithereens. Not that he would mind should an accident remove Sizzlik, but it was too soon. That fool had to blast beards into hell and only then should the command go over to the real mastermind, Skreechtik himself!
But maybe have those bearded ones moved too far ahead and he can slaughter them.
Just as he contemplated an order to attack beards, he heard war shouts and cries. Beards were comming to him.

With this was his masterplan of sending stormvermin first in out of the window. Those trecherous beards. They can not wait until are attacked properly? His mouth frothing, he ordered to all skaven units the only possible command: "Charge for the glory of the council of thirteen!"
Invocation of their dreaded masters had the desired effect and everyone charged. Even that coward warlock has come back to help.

In a pretty desperate situation he charged with everything and into his doom. I had no problem with it as this was a fieldtest of the GW warrior horde, which was the reason why I overrun so recklessly. Up to this moment I lost not one dwarf from this unit, so now it was 40 dawi against 60 skaven. No problem, realy.

He charged also with the doomwheel and has made the long charge for the main hammerer unit with his clanrats.
Also stormvermin charged in to support the main unit.

In the magic phase his warlock engineer blasted with the warplightning into my rangers, which I was forced to leave be, as I needed the allimportant dispel of his spells of plague. Which I promptly did. 5 rangers died from the lightning and more grudges had to be inscribed.
Warpfire thrower tried to finish them, but exploded, what a nice bonus. Rattlign gun had no target.

We fought the doom wheel combat. Hammerers took one wound from it and lost 3 of their number. Doom wheel held with the last wound remaining.

Then came the main CC.
He dished huge amount of attacks and killed 8 dawi.
I had an option of trying for the BSB, but only 6 dawi could attack him and I was tempted to go for a massive kill, so I went for the RnF. Clanrats where I could and where I could not I went for stormvermin... 15-18 dead skaven total later he was not very amused.
He lost the combat and as clanrats broke - he lost his BSB and standard meaning his army broke. (Blood&Glory scenario).

He lost the stomach for any more fighting, so we even have not finished the CC phase.
Ok, his clanrats had no real chance against a unit of hammerers in the range of my BSB...
