I got a lot of help from other members on painting and modelling over the last year and I just wanted to show that I haven't wasted your time! I'm working on my dwarfs and (almost) finished my first two regiments which in 20 years is not too bad ^_^(But I took an 18 y break from the hobby)!

Here is a Bugman's ranger WIP, I need to get a few more to make a 32 unit strong and then the cart will fill in for 40.

Once I have all of them, I'll try to come up with something for the bases (thank you MK).

Oh, and I finished yesterday 20 thunderers 6th edition, I'll take the picture and post them soon. Next some marauders quarrelers, I should have the photos ready for 2050 probably :P...

Thanks, that's a good question, I tried a few of them

PXL 20220721 113809639

And I'm not too happy with the results. I think I'll need some warm color to balance all the blue so I was thinking about a forest base with plenty of red and orange leaves, maybe on top of some snow. What do you think?

Hmm, basing isn't my area of expertise, I usually just paint then steel legion drab, add a little medium ballast to them and then some 2mm static grass.
Mr Mouseslayer might know some good tricks!

Looking good so far. Will you give the Bugman's Rangers standard a piece of cloth or leave it at that?

Thanks! I was thinking about leaving like that for now. I've used in the past the high elves banners but I've never been too happy about it and it was covering too much of the standard bearer.

Love the color, but I've said that before.

Where are these models from?  Are they old GW?

Thank you, Lawot!
Yes, old Bugman rangers I think from around 1980ish and then 6th edition Thunderers.

Finally finished the Bugman cart. Putting it together was a a nightmare, I had to pin the hell out of it. I hope you like it!

Yes Roger, really great thread my friend. Great models with some outstanding paint jobs!

For your base question... do you have an instagram account? If so, check out mousekillerminiatures, I have a few tutorials posted on how to paint bases which can give you an idea (in video).  I will dig around and see if I can find still photos of them.

Thank you guys!

Any help for the bases will be greatly appreciated, I don't have instagram, but I'll try to find your videos. I wanted to try something like a forest base with some snow..but I am not completely sure it will work.

My point is trying to balance a bit the cold blue with some warm color in the base.

My main army is Lizardmen/Saurian Ancients, so a forest-floor-cover base is something I do a lot. I find fallen leaves in the color I’m looking for - thin and reeeally dry is key - and rub them between my hands to grind them finely. I do a first layer of fine dirt, followed by an almost-complete cover of leaves, followed by a flock mix for moss, and tiny twigs for logs. I’m pretty happy with the result. You could try something similar, with reddish-brown leaves for the warm color you’re looking for, and some snow on top.

I like black or green tea as flock. This looks quite good as forest floor. With white snow toppings you can add some winter flavor.

These are great ideas, I never thought about using tea.

End of summer here so I'll wait a few more months and then I'll start pickering leaves.

Beautiful MK, thank you. How do you paint them though? Do you use an airbrush?

Regular brush, just hit different leaves (coffee, or tea, bits) with the different colors. Looks more like leaf litter that way. Then plop a very small amount of snow to give your autumn to winter effect :)
