Howdie beardy beards,

As I have to miss out on one of the better event in The Netherlands, a Bloodstorm tournament hosted at the largest miniatures convention in Europe. The Scalemodel Challenge, I thought I'd quickly join a local tourny in Zeist. It's 4k, so have to cut out 500 pts somewhere. And I have one demand and that is bringing a unit of Kingsguard. After some iterations I have chosen this list to go with:

So dropped the Anvil to allow dual cannons and dual copters. Toned my main anvil down to 28 shield dwarfs, as my Lord now also has dragons breath. This provides an extra warrior dart. Upped the Kingguard to 24 and gave em the aether banner. We'll see how this runs next week!

So the tactics are based on a core-star shield unit with beefy kings that I can vanguard into position as an anvil for my enemy to worry about. The smaller warrior units are mainly chaff hunters (throwing weapons), and the great weapon block as light hammer block. The skirmishing Seekers with killer Dragon Seeker are the main glass hammer that a can pressure with vanguard and assist the main block. That unit has one nice trick up its sleave: after deployment I can move the whole unit 12" (skirmish), to mess with my opponents deployment plans. The Kingsguard are the second main hammer units. I will test them out to see how that works without a king in them (so no stubborn). The copters are mainly to harress, hunt chaff (or lone monsters), and possibly redirect big units away form my blocks in the later phases of battle. And the cannons, well, being them big monsters on!

What worked, and what do you think to change?
Details about what went wrong would be helpful...

ehh well the support units were to iffy .. there wasnt any regulare secondary objectives .. and other people knew that, so the small units were useless ... I lacked a BSB which this lists freakingly needed. Iost my shield bunker with king in two of three games while steadfast (rolled a 10 once, and a 9 once while I was fighting a fear causing block, which lowers your leadership to 9). The cannons did three wounds in three games ... but most of all, I don't love this list, with my heart. So I didnt care much for it while playing. It's a cut and paste exercise. I made a list I really love now. Think that will let me play differently.

That pretty much settles the issue...

But yeah, I can see the lack of BSB would hurt that army.

Care to share your new list? ^_^

Are seekers this good in 9th edition? I see a lot of lists with them included? I do not see the kingsguard, deepwatch or other choices. Are they bad?

Seekers are good hitters, cause they are versatile. Base Strength 4 and additional handweapons and +1Strength on the charge are nice.

But they don't score. But you can solve scoring in core.

Kingsguard aren't as usefull. They have a 4+ save, so they are more sturdy, but you pay for that. Seekers have build in vanguard, so you don't have to waste that precious vanguard banner on them. Seekers never break, Kingsguard need a general in the unit to be stubborn.

Deepwatch rock, but have to compete with a shield unit in core that also has a 5+ ward the first round of combat. And they compete with very usefulll pistoll miners, copters, vengeance seekers and artillery.

So they arent bad, but out book has alot of great tools now.

I like your second list.

And nice explanation of the differences between the two units.

Hi ya'lllllll

.... so ..... then I thought, for the same points of 24 Greatbeards you can buy 24 great weapon crossbowmen. Same defense, roughly, bit less cc output, but still S5 and 6 on the charge. And 24 S4 shots. As spamming mostly works, this combines well with the two warmachines imo.

I tend to go for that.

Thoughts?
