So,

I'm wondering what you guys think would work well for a 1000 point game, using the new points system from the General's Handbook. It's quite annoying how the only Battleline units are the Warriors and Longbeards, as I think they should go along with the 'core' theme from Fantasy, which should mean Quarrellers and Thunderers being Battleline as well, but oh well.

This is my first attempt at making a reasonably competitive list. What do you think works and what doesn't? And generally what lists do you think work? Any input is welcome!

Dwarf Lord Shieldbearers - 160

BsB Thane - 80

Thorek Ironbrow - 140

Kraggi - 20

30 Warriors - 300

20 Longbeards - 280

Total: 980

It could work well, but i'm fond of finding a way to work in Bugman and his rangers with enough quarellers to get the double shot bonus. The tactical advantage of deploying rangers nearly anywhere at anytime on the battlefield gives you, is amazing. You are able to sandwich tough foes and tilt unfavorable combats last minute with little effort using them and without mobility, enemy armies will simply run around you or shoot you from afar.

I think you need some shooting as with some armies you wont make it across the field. The storm cast for example have a ton of shooting that will pick away at you until your to small to be able to fight back. Also the issue with thorek is I think he is to easy to pick off with artillery.

Bugman + rangers is a must IMO.

Yes - the Bugman and rangers combo is great, and I hadn't properly considered using them that way. Another list with these added units;

Bugman - 100

Ungrim - 100

Runelord - 80

20 Warriors - 200

20 Quarrellers - 240

20 Longbeards - 280

The Longbeards are a great buff unit. But I wouldnt field more than 10 of them. Beardy I would Even set them up as a thin line to spread the wound buff. ;)

So less longbeards.

Also You are missing the 60 points for the grudgebound or disposessed throng.
Reroll hits of 1 and no fleeing dwarfs on a 1-3.
And with the generall ability from the generals handbook You can reroll Any battleshock test.
Imo making the Thane obsolete.

I would take out 1 unit of warriors and 1 unit of long beards so make them 10 strong each then add another 20 man quarrelers unit

The frustrating thing with the points system is that the only battleline units are warriors and longbeards, so If I'm gonna take them, then I feel I should make a good unit rather than pretty much throwing them away. I'm not sure I can fit a Dispossessed Clan Throng in there   The 1000 points now doesn't seem like a lot...
