The introduction of Age of Sigmar has gotten me very interested in expanding my pirate forces into individual armies.
As a little background, I played a pirate-themed Dogs of War for many years and added an assortment of scurvy characters from across the warhammer range. Some of these (Empire, Ogres, and Vampire Counts) became full-fledged pirate armies. Others (Dwarves, Dark Elves, and High Elves) were never much more than single units. I also added a good number of ships and other pirate-themed terrain to go with them.
The small skirmish battles of AoS are perfect for taking some of these and making them into small armies of their own. I'm shooting for lists of around 50 points that I can use for demo games, etc. Since I'm currently living and working overseas, at the moment this consists of making some small purchases on ebay or bartertown and working out some lists on paper. I'd like to share the progress of the project here.
Here is an image to illustrate what models and terrain this project is starting with, my combined ogres and empire armies:

And for when people need to be able to storm the castle:

I picked these up last spring when there was so much uncertainty about the future of warhammer in the air. Plus, we've played quite a few siege battle using the blood in the badlands rules, and they are a lot of fun.

Neat items....for some reason, when I got the first view of the catapult, my first thought went to the old, Weapons and Warriors boardgame. Well, atleast without the horns on the sides.

I like that game! The pirate version especially has provided lots of good material for my armies.

Next up are the dwarves... er, Duardin. Since the pirates started as a Dogs of War army, it of course had to include Slayer P irates. I tried to go the cheap route and convert them from thunderers, but the results just weren't that great. Finally, when GW released the White Dwarf Pirate, I had to go for the classic slayer pirates.
Also, there is a cannon and crew that goes with them.
It's around 25 wounds; half the size of most of my small pirate armies. I'd like to add some irondrakes, but not sure what else. I've heard rumors of some new Duardin automaton that is set to come our soon...

Hey all, I'm hoping to add some more dwarfs to this army at holiday time.
In the meantime, though, I'm working on a party of adventurers with an Araby theme. I'd like to use them for Age of Sigmar but also for D&D, so I've tried to find one model for each of the core classes in the new 5th edition game.
First up is the Dwarf Monk. The axe and short sword are both monk weapons, and since he is a slayer he has a nice ascetic aesthetic.

This was a fun little conversion. He'll be an animal companion or maybe even a rogue character:
I used the 40K Jokaero, but took out the techie details.

Quite a few new ones to add.
Ogre Barbarian and Goblin Rogue
Fighter, mounted and on foot
Paladin, mounted and on foot
Sorcerer, on foot and with flying carpet

Great models and ideas! Especially the ogre and sorcerer on carpet. Will you use them in the game too?

I'm hoping to, yes! Either for character-heavy games of Age of Sigmar or for D&D.
I knocked this guy out quick yesterday: the dark elf assassin/ranger.

Ah, old but still good. Although the former Shadowblade would be better

I just finished up the party wizard.
I'm going to have to pause on this project for now, as the two final models (Mordheim Merchant and Fire Wizard) haven't arrived yet. Good thing I have other stuff to work on in the meantime...

Working on replacing some homemade spear tips for a unit of ship's crew I did many years ago.
Here is the rest of the unit with the new spear tips:

I just put the finishing touches on a small unit of harpies to round out my dark elf corsairs.
Here are the corsairs and their fearless leader.
A close-up of Lokhir Fellheart and the Sorceress.
Some River trolls that the dark elves goad into battle.
The Kharibdyss (one of the handlers did not come on this trip).
And a group shot.

Looking nice! Although those old nasty harpies don't fit that good, corsairs and good old Lokhir are still intact.Good to see them.

Now, up next is my small Lothern Sea Guard army:
Sea Helm on Skycutter
Mage w/ annulian crystal
18 Lothern Sea Guard
All I had time for was this guy, the mage's familiar:
I went with a different color on the base than my previous models, and I'm thinking about redoing the others in the same color. It's an acrylic paint from the craft store that is a lot cheaper than model paints.
