First some background
So I got my first box of dwarf warriors awhile ago now and I was pretty underwhelmed, the cartoony art style doesn't really tickle my pickle and I only got them for Mordheim really as the longbeards and IBs are too expensive for me.

In comes bunker games! Anyone in Australia can tell you that GW prices here are pretty high, premium product premium price but I'm poor. Whilst I'm an advocate for the company and I think we all owe them a lot... I'm a student and I can hardly afford to shell out $70 aud for a box of Longbeards so I had to look for an alternate strategy, I found bunker games recently and they had a big 30% off their already discounted prices when AOS came out and I had to get something, so I ordered some longbeards and a rune priest for about $60 in total and got free shipping because I live in Vic! I wouldn't buy from them usually because I like my GW staff member and I want the store to stay open, the 10% is hardly worth waiting two weeks for my product to arrive and to trad the invaluable resource at the store, but when they have sales hot damn it's worth a buy!

Side note: I nearly cried when I saw they had the box set for $130 when I paid the full $200

So cheap, it did take ages to arrive though but I had school stuff to do anyway  :wallbash:

ANYWAY

I can't be bothered waiting for the new dwarf models to come out, the heavily armored current models I think look like they will tie in well with the stormcasts I got from the box-set (me and me friend got one and swapped each other the chaos and Stormcast models so I have 2 of all the Sigmarines) but I wanted them to look a bit more... Age of Sigmary.

So far not much eye candy and probably no where near enough to bother reading that splur but more will come!

8b3f8f3935.jpg

Here's my converted thane, I uses the axe head from the Longbeard champion and the thunder things from my spare lord Celestants head, the little metal Mohawk looking thing is cut from one of the standard tops (not sure which kit) sorry for the not so high res picture my xperia camera is pretty good but its been on the frits lately.

I think the small addition makes him fit in that little bit more

3d3cb222bc.jpg

The top of his oath-stone, pretty mediocre but it'll do for now

561c728831.jpg

3070e5bad5.jpg

Now for the Hammerer! Love the helmet-less face for the champion but I always preferred a more dynamic pose, this is by no means super active but Its better than the original I think, grean stuffing that beard gap was literally the worst thing I've ever done and It came out less than how I imagined.

I'm still strapped for a color scheme, I don't know if I should go gold for the main color to tie in with the Stormcasts of If I should go another color.

As usual CC welcome

Yeah Australia's like that with everything, lots of taxes on imports and such.

Cheers! I'll upload some more pics of them painted and a few more I'm working on soon :)

Finished painting these first two!

My Thane
263a594c78.jpgfe815a2606.jpg

ec32c29945.jpgd63f0b62e4.jpg

I'm not very good at painting but he came out okay, bit of cleaning to do on the cape and I need to fix the white. I used the same kanto blue and the same golds as my Stormcasts so they will look somewhat uniformed. Also the pics are a bit "I swear too much"

Next my Hammerer!
61799816a9.jpg2b5e8ab7e8.jpg

e2f7a8c02f.jpg337aab857a.jpg

Happier with this one, the painting is fairly clean and the green stuff shown on the beard in the earlier post looks a lot cleaner when painted.

Anyway, I have a weeks break from uni and I've actually done all my course work and am up to date ,
so between working and making the most of my precious free time I should have some more pics over the next couple of days.

I love the conversions! Painting seems okay, but it might be chalked up to your picture quality, or maybe you have yet to discover the wonderful world of shades and highlights?

Great start. Look at army builder shade dips - comes in a paint can, you dip them, let them dry, and do finishing touches. A great source for starting shading and makes minis pop. It would look great with the cool color combos you've selected.

Thanks for sharing your pics - look forward to more

I've had a preliminary shot with highlights and shades, I'm fairly new to the hobby (less than year) so my paintings not very good but the pictures don't do it justice either.

I'm working on my Grimm Burloksson and another Thane (no conversions with this one), then I'll try to upload another conversion together with them soon.

Finished Grimm and another Hammerer! I also added another nulin oil to add some more definition to the original models

First up Grimm
eb37971d17.jpg2fe91a2590.jpg

dbae6a4a9c.jpg2e359af07b.jpg

Pretty happy with him, The blue ties in well with the rest of the unit.

Now for the Hammerer!
edeb655d73.jpgcfda186749.jpg

9e1f067692.jpg176747fa87.jpg

Here's a close up of the hammer

c47138f03d.jpg

I used the hammer from that skull faced guy in the Age of Sigmar release box since I had two of him, the spikes on the shoulder are from the same model, It required a bit of bending but all in all its just another simple conversion that I feel adds a lot more character.

Here's a Twin shot!
f52f0706d1.jpg

Now for the extra wash on the first two, it might be hard to see the difference due to my "I swear too much" camera but they look a lot more detailed in person than before.

765258a73f.jpg

dbadc07996.jpg

And I pic of the whole gang, it's starting to become a nice little unit, I'll eventually base everyone on circle bases (the thanes oathstone isn't a base). They not only will eventually be a good AOS group but I can feel some good Mordheim sessions coming from this!

977dcd64c0.jpg

I think I might do a Mordheim Dwarves Guide soon, I've played a good enough amount to have a good idea of how it plays and I feel like I've made a fairly good strategy for my stunties. Keep your eyes peeled if that sounds like your kind of thing

Alrighty! I know I've been gone for a bit (I'm sure all three of you who commented were itching for more ) but I've got three new ones today! Another hammerer similar to the last one posted, my musician for this unit and my Thane with BSB/Unit BSB

Hammerer

8ef98746cf.jpg

Similar to the other Hammerer but I needed a bit more uniformity for the normal units.

Musician

8c283eb796.jpg

I used the head piece from the flying guys in the AOS box and cut it in half for the head piece here, I think it looks similar to the horn which worked out well.

BSB Guy!

cd316e9577.jpgeac623e10c.jpg

I'm happy with this guy, the top is from the skull faced guy in the AOS box, I'm adamant to use all the parts he has since I have no use for him other than conversions. The head piece is again part of the flying guys head piece. I think I may Greenstuff something onto the banner.

I'll do some shots from every side once they are painted. Let me know what you think!

The use of the AoS hammers for your hammerers works excellently! Nice chunky hammers!

Cheers man, I thought the same, I wanted to use the Lord Celestant on Dracoths hammer for something but it's just that lil bit on the large side

New stuff!

Painted Musician

34f980e1bf.jpg0e9985b5f1.jpg4fbd174c36.jpg98ea98c670.jpg

Happy with how the plume came out on his head, I feel like I maybe should have changed the hammer a bit more but It'll do for now.

Painted BSB

c6243995f6.jpg6a45ec52a6.jpg

be52ad66e6.jpg40297bc1f6.jpg

Probably my fave from this lot, the banner turned out great, I greenstuffed the rune for 'Fearless' among other things (hope that's right) onto the front of the banner just to add a bit more detail, was looking bare.

Second Hammerer

f8986a1303.jpg82407da0fb.jpg

a4708c6eb4.jpg10742a6dd4.jpg

Very similar to the one from an earlier post but that was the intent, I like this hammer top more than the other though I think.

Money shot!

36b4e48ae6.jpg

Starting to get bigger, I'm not really sure where to go next, may need to get creative with my AOS bits, Ill probably put up a slayer with great axe next then maybe a sneak peak at some greys to be painted, maybe even a throng fluff to fill in some time for anyone who likes to read.

As always enjoy the pics and I'll see you guys soon!

Back again, I rechecked my unit guides and I'm in the last few months of my tertiary year! Crazy at the moment though so if my future posts are a bit spastic I'm sorry  :wallbash:

Back to business!

So I was pretty stumped where to go from here, I have used most all the parts from skull face banner guy so I figured I'd move onto the other double I cant really use, the lord celestant! And hot damn I think I maade the best one yet from them.

First up the Slayer with great weapon

882a91ab98.jpgf153cdb2bb.jpg7d2b752654.jpg2850aabed2.jpg

I was a bit worried about having the axe head so close to the hand but It'll do, I'll keep the dragon head on the base but I'll stick it to a round base and blend it in somehow.

The next one is abit of a work in progress
Grudgekeeper? (dunno about the name)

9832c11076.jpg3355be7eb8.jpg

4b22bf5d8b.jpg9bbe26d389.jpg

The idea is that the parchment in his hand has some grudge written on it and he is here to make sure it's upheld, I dunno what to use him as, probably a hammerer or a thane but I like the idea behind him so I'll probably roll with it, he needs blending on the head and hand but I'll get there (maybe don't expect him in the next painted update). I'd love if you guys could give some thoughts on the concept.

NOW for my favorite model so far! Another thane/lord
f3f6103006.jpg8811641468.jpg

9afa5f8310.jpg0d3afd1cea.jpg

Close up

999662510c.jpg

I love this guy, the huge head piece with the tail makes the hammer less ridiculous, I may change the arms for a different pose but I'm not sure, it's more the shield arm I'm questioning. Let me know what you guys think, is it too much? I feel like it may be a bit showboaty for a dwarf but I still love him.

Also I did a Mordheim guide for my Dwarf Treasure Hunters, give it a look if you are interested  :yes

These are very nice! I think the slayers position of the axe works well, you can almost see how he will grab the end of the axe haft with his left hand in half a second and make a very lethal swing.

I think a grudgekeeper would work best as a lord, fluff-wise, I guess a lord with great weapon.

The lord looks great too. Might be a bit over the top for an old-world dwarf, but seems to work for AoS imho.
