Hey! I have a super serious friendly game in two days about whether my Skaven "friend" can beat me with his rat ogres. The other day he was boasting about how they would crush my bearded forces easily and naturally I had to challenge him. So here I am with my army. It's pretty tailored since I know his army through and through.

He has around 40-80 Clanrats, 40 Stormvermin, 40-80 Slaves (depending on the amount of clan rats), Grey Seer on Bell, 7 Rat ogres, one HPA, one Doomwheel, 2 WLCs, 2 Mortars, 1 Ratling Gun, mix of characters like BSB, Warlord, Engineer.

Since it's been a while since I posted a list on here I thought "why the h*ll not?" Any thoughts?

The Template Squad 2500 Pts

Heroes (562 pts)

/w Ro Fire x2

120 pts

366 pts

x20 Thunderers

290 pts

/w Ro Forging, Ro Burning

150 pts

170 pts

Gyrocopter
Steam Gun

80 pts

x26 Hammerers (Runesmith goes here + Thane)

Standard, Musician

356 pts

x24 Ironbreakers (Runesmith number two)

FC, Cinderblast Bombs

381 pts

Rare (145)

Organ Gun
/w Ro Accuracy

My elites always get shot to pieces by his WLCs so that's why the Runesmiths go there to boost the Grugni save to a 4+.
I will try and deploy everything something like this:

Thunderers      Hammerers      Quarrelers     Ironbreakers
       5x4                  7x4                  5x5                5x5
The gyrocopter stays behind the lines in case my friend pops the Stormbanner (ugh :hope:) Warmachines go in between depending on where they are needed. Cannon to break his shooting and kill HPA etc.
I've also spread out the shooting across the board and anvils are on the flanks to keep them out. Is there anything I should swap out?

EDIT: Forgot to mention that he has a damned Doomwheel

I'd personally go with more WM's, something like an extra cannon and a grudgethrower, instead of the thunderers. Maybe also an extra gyro.

But like I said, thats personal, a lot depends on your preferred playing style ofcourse.

Very curious to read how the battle went, will you be writing a battle report?

I thought about more WMs but I kinda felt I had one too few infantry blocks. Sure, Thunderers don't kill a lot of stuff but they are good Tarpits. I'll never forget how my 20 thunderers held 13 Silverhelms + Tyrion for 3 turns.

Yes I probably will write a report. Won't be anything special, just a short recap of each turn but still.

Thats always my inner discussion :wallbash: infantry vs artillery....

Good luck with the battle! (but with grugni on your side you wont need it  )

Why do the rune smiths boost the Grugni saves?

It doesn't against WLC, but magic missiles.

Being a horde army i recommend a grudgethrower, it can hit 15 skaven in a lucky blow.

i know that the rune smith give you magic resistance 1 but i don't think that interacts with Grugni, Grugni gives you a straight 5+ and MR1 gives you a straight 6+ you just pick which one you want to use as they don't stack like armour saves do. The only time ward saves from different sources stack is if one of the sources specifically says it does i.e the Mark of Tzeentch (Valaya's warding against the darkness) specifically states it gives a 6+ ward save or improves an existing ward save by 1

(edited to add example)

In the 8th edition manual's magic resistance entry it says that MR is considered a bonus to ward, not a ward in itself, so it does stack.

Correct. But only against magic missiles, do we get the 4+ ward.
