Here is an army list idea for Age of Sigmar with units I love, but never use competitively in 8ed WFB. I call it, my 'UNusual Suspects'

11 Slayers

Ungrim, Slayer King

20 Quarrellers (Rangers)

Josef Bugman

Thorek Ironbrow and Anvil of Doom

10 Miners

10 Miners

Flame Cannon (i only have one)

Engineer

**60 models**

Plan:

-Flame people with the cannon, with engineer to help

-do things with the Anvil to buff my slayers - giving them extra saves, etc...

-deploy Miners to their rear or wherever strategic

-deploy rangers in the back to kill off all their campy units (40 shots) with Josef Bugman

-charge and slash with the slayers and king

I'd say take slightly more than 20 Quarrellers. All you need is your opponent to get a lucky shot with a cannon or a arcane bolt and you will lose your "volley fire" special rule.

Apart from that, it seems solid, I'm guessing you're going to play heavy on ambush tactics?

Nice. It's good to see people using units they love. That's what is exciting about this reboot. Not Dwarf but I look forward to using my old dragon ogre figures in my chaos army.

Good point, Lambalton.

I think the idea would be to be ambush heavy. I had just finished painting my Anvil of Doom when the new Dwarf Army book came out. Love the idea of seeing that in battle more.

Obviously this is a slightly silly list, but would be fun to see in action.

Cool list Nich. I agree with Morgrim, it's refreshing to see people take some units they wouldn't have normally taken in WHFB. Lmbalton makes a valid point, unless you're confident in getting first turn, or have your Rangers positioned in a way to avoid some dmg, you're likely to lose that volley fire pretty quick.

I like the slayer combo, slayers are pretty deadly. If they die, roll a 4+ and they instantly make a wound. (If I understand this correctly, it states 4+ is a mortal wound...?)

I think you'll have a lot of fun with the list.

What do you intend on placing first though? I think this might be a new 'strategy' in AoS... deployment, what you deploy first, and if you'd risk halting your deployment for a Sudden Death victory.

Also, if your opponent decides to call for a Sudden Death victory, what Hero will you nominate? (if he chooses assassinate).

Interested in hearing your thoughts!

If they choose Assassinate as their SD victory, then I believe I'd choose Thorek. He's got some good fighters with him and the Flame Cannon would be good to help with any 'scouts' that they may bring my way. I think that'd be the best defense in that sense. Josef would be too in their territory and most likely quickly piled upon. Ungrim would be gearing up for a death charge most likely (gotta play the way they'd play ;) and would probably attract the same kind of pile on as Josef.

I'd also have the Miners in reserve to choose where to plant them in case things are looking a little scary on my side of the board. The Rangers would be best utilized in their backfield, I believe.

I might find problems with them just killing off my Rangers and Miners then turning and coming for everyone else. That's where the Flame Cannon can hopefully pick off a few and the slayers right in their face.

Since there isn't any benefits to flank or rear attacks yet, there is no strategy there. I think this strategy is more for mayhem and radical fighting.  :shuriken:

I will say that this is my favorite part of AoS.

My Dwarf army is not fully painted. Never will be. What is painted looks great on the table. But what is painted is not a fully legal army.

In AoS I am able to use my painted models legally.

As for the list @nicholunch, I would agree with what has been said, make sure to add more Xbows and I would add if possible a few more Slayers up to around 15. Perhaps instead of 4 extra normal Slayers, take 4 Dragon Slayers.

Thanks for the feedback guys/gals (we all have beards, so I can't tell ;)

I was trying to keep model count low. But I agree that the additions need to be made.

Here's my updated list:

Heroes:

Thorek Ironbrow, Kraggi, and two Anvil Guards w/ Anvil of Doom....(5 models)

Ungrim, Slayer King....(1 model)

3 Dragon Slayers....(3 models)

Josef Bugman....(1 model)

Engineer....(1 model)

Infantry:

25-30 Rangers....(25-30 models)

10-15 Slayers.....(10-15 models)

10-15 Miners.....(10-15 models)

10-15 Miners.....(10-15 models)

War Machines:

Flame Cannon, 3 Crew.....(4 models)

**70-90 Models**

Now, I'm not sure how if would calculate the cannon and the AoD as models or not. But I did. Whew, that actually turns into a rather large army I believe. I may be going against Sudden Death and I think for most sakes, the damage I'd be doing in the backfield would keep them worried.

For any SD options, I'd have to be careful with deployment as to not set that model, terrain piece, etc. up for quick a grab. But I have the Miners to help keep them in check.

Quick question...can they choose a unit that's in reserve as the 'Blunt' Sudden Death victory option?

I suppose they could, though that COULD make it impossible for them to win - you don't have to field your miners if you don't want to.

In terms of sudden death I think you'll be pretty fine for all scenarios - the miners can essentially be kept off field until needed (depending on SD).

I think Endure might be your biggest problem if he has a large unit.. If he brings a unit of 50+ models, that can be a pain in the butt. Then again, all your firepower would be directed towards it. If he picks Endure and tries to flee, both your Miners can jump on it.

All things considered this is a pretty solid list. I like the Miners, they're pretty damn reliable. They can appear anywhere on the field as long as it's 9" away from the enemy. Meaning they can charge the turn they come up!
