Wow, Valhaal, that just looks STUNNING! You simply have to tell us how you did that, nothing else but full disclosure will do! That looks ACE, congratulations on achieving that.

Have a pint on my tab to quench your thirst, after all, such good painting is bound to make a dwarf thirsty. :)

The colors I used for the molten effect were:

- GW Khorne Red

- P3 Ember Orange

- P3 Cygnus Yellow

- P3 Menoth White Highlight

- GW Ceramite White

Since the flame/smoke is coming off of the top end, I didn't really have any say in where the hottest point was going to be. Using the above colors and a wet palette, I used wet-blending*  for a smooth transition with the colors, with the hot end getting the white and the cooler bottom being the red. The fire was painted with the same idea, so it was basically reverse highlighting (raised areas the darkest colors) with some black added into the mix.

 I think I used too much red on the metal, though, as molten metal typically "glows" and remains mostly orange at the darkest. I highlighted the sides with a very dark red (Khorne Red mixed with black, just used the same mixture as the smoke).

*My wet-blending technique here was more of a mix between wet-blending and two-brush blending. Using the molten rune as an example, I painted red on the bottom, Cygnus Yellow in the center, and Ceramite White at the top. Like;

Red - Cygnus Yellow - Ceramite

Then I'd apply the transition color of Ember Orange between the red and yellow, and a mix of yellow and ceramite between those, like;

Red - Ember Orange - Cygnus Yellow - 1:1 Yellow/white - Ceramite

With the transition colors still wet, grab a small dab of red to quickly mix into the orange on it's side. Then grab a quick dab of yellow to mix into the orange. Then another dab of yellow to mix into the 1:1 yellow/white, and a mix of white for that color as well. Definitely make sure you've cleaned your brush (or use a second one all together) before switching colors.

Hopefully that wasn't too confusing. This is a lot of steps for a standard wet-blending technique, but going from Khorne Red to White meant that I couldn't just blend those two colors or it'd just end up red and pink, which is definitely not the desired effect.

Finished up my Lords and Heroes. My camera and lighting is a bit stale, so a few highlights are robbed from the final pictures here:

I'm still debating between how I want the basing to go. I'm pretty sure it'll all end up with static grass of some color and snow, but I don't want to add anything until I'm definitely sure. I still have the rest of the army to build so I can stop using proxy models for games, so I have time for inspiration to hit.

Those all look brilliant! Scrolling down I was enjoying them all but was then blown away when I saw the BSB, he is stunning... I may have to use him as inspiration for my own! Cannot wait to see more!  :thumbup:

Excellent work, it seems that new models are not too bad if a good painter works on them ;)

Love natural colors and metallic, hope to see more ;)

Thanks! I'm really anxious to get more painting finished up. Here's a current WIP shot of my painting table:

The gyrocopters have been glued into position. While this won't save transport space, I prefer the action pose. While building those gyros I did come up with some really exciting conversion ideas, so I'm pretty happy 5 Gyrocopters in an army isn't always a horrible idea! I'm probably going to add some greenstuff to the left gyro, as it was modelled to appear to be using the steam gun over a unit and it doesn't seem to be coming off that way to me - so adding some effects coming out of the barrel of the gun will help with that, I think.

Thanks!

I had the day off yesterday and was looking to paint an entire army of Necrons from start to finish with my new airbrush to try it out. But things went south real fast. Paint was spilling all over the place, and I even managed to get some superglue in my mouth when I wasn't even using it - so...I packed up my things and painted at my local gaming store to relax and get away from the painting mess at the house. This guy was chosen since I have a DnD game coming up where I play a Dwarf (as usual) and decided to update my miniature since the other was my first ever paint job a year and a half ago. Here's the result after I got home and did the metal work:

Since he was painted relatively randomly, I spent the rest of the evening and this morning rushing a base which still has some drying times.

As for all the pictures, I'll try to get a room with better lighting so I can show off a few more layers here and there once I get the majority of my army together and painted up. I found some time to finish all the skinwork and faces on the warmachines crew for my army list, so after I finish the beards it's pretty much the home stretch for that stuff.

One of my favorite Models and he looks Ace as does the the Rest. Its funny to spot all those P3 Colors in Between,

I seldom use mine for my Dwarves but Coal Black hast to be one of the Best Colors ever made!
