what about instead of WS/BS 1 - make it -1 to hit AND reroll successful hits?

 

I just used Ld as the most appropriate test, we could make it just a straight up36",  -1 to hit then have the Ancient power make it a remains in play. Spend a second Runic Focus Token and add reroll successful hits?

 

OR:

 

if we just go straight up Ld based stuff:

 

target suffers a -1LD, then roll a Ld check and if you fail you get a further -1 (for a total of -2Ld). Ancient Power makes it a remains in play that forces a check every turn and if failed does a further -1Ld and that is cumulative

 

Its similar to the Lore of Hashut from the Chaos Dwarfs ? Cant remeber is exactly - it might just go straight to the -2 and stack... And it might be a permanent change... like even if you remove the RiP aspect the -Ld stays with you...

Well, i see it this way from a fluff perspectice.
WS 1 = Fear, However, BS 1 = Elves being "I swear too much" off. (an effective -3 to hit)
I think, a -1 to hit BS and WS 1 gives a good picture of "the enemy trembling in fear of our Runelords booming voice"
I Also think, for the case of simolicity, that the reroll to hit Ancestral power is fine :-)
Really, i think it is Awesome Zimron, that You shard this idea! The interwebs is the worst place to discuss, simply because everything is so easy to misunderstand (Ive seen that everywhere) so dont take it personally in any way :-) i think you make some good ideas, and I try to think out of what You and Grumble writes.

I cant wait to try the New rules!

Edit: or instead of "reroll hits" what about -1 Str to the model and the Ranged weapon? The Runelords voice is so powerful, that their arms weakens and they dont Pull their Bows properly?

I really tried everything I could think off to associate a -1 to hit with another thing that affects chances to hit. Its possible, but it makes the spell overpowered. If you make them lose WS on top of the -1 it will end in "can only hit on 6" which is crazy good for a 7+ spell. Same goes with rerolls on top of -1 to hit. Its probably even stronger. You just cant associate anything that affect chances to hit with a -1 without making the spell too strong.

 

If you like the Grudge runes like it is, then don't bother. Having the first part better than the WS/BS thing wont happen very often. If you want a simple solution make it a Blizzard an replace the -1 leadership with "cant reroll LD tests". In my opinion Blizzard is under costed in the first place, so don't worry about it being too weak.

Hello again after a long time of absence. I try to update the french pdf for those who want to try it and give a feedback to improve this project, but I can't access anymore to the pdf link you set in page 1. Are the description update on page 1 ? If yes I'll use these to update french pdf.

 

Anyway, I tested twice this anvil and it was quite balanced. The second time more than the first because on the first game I get 12 /11 / 12 / 12 on ma magic winds so it was difficult for my Empire opponent to make something. 

The second time was a better example, again against Ampire, were the anvil was a pine in is Test and he couldn't ignore it.

He was pretty embiterred that my Runelord was more efficient than his wizards. But in the first games I had magic winds with me and he had nothing so it doesn't count. Second game was balanced and he find that all the runes were pretty nice and balanced even if +1 toughness is very usefull for dwarves.

He will play again against it because he says that it bring dwarf strategy different and interessant.

The link to the PDF is not working. Any chance that could be fixed?

Read through the whole thread and this seems like a great addition to AoD. Nicely balanced and not overpowered.
Why we couldn't get something like this from GW is beyond me.

Zimron you should send an email to GW and offer them this for free. On the off-chance that your email makes it's way all the way to the rules designs team, maybe it will find them in a good mood and we get the above as a supplement in a WD.

the only email i have is the customer support one and i've sent it there - about a month ago but no reply at all. I pitched it that me and some mates were playing an "end times" campaign and the excess magic flying around the world had caused the anvils to suddenly "unlock secret runes". The runelords then learned that they only knew a fraction of the true power of the anvils and set out to summon up the power of them properly :). Told them we made up this rules set and we thought we would share it with them if they were interested :)

 

if anyone has any other emails i could try let me know! :)

That's too bad. I only have the customer support email too. Maybe try sending them again? I once sent them a mail about Wood Elves and the customer support guy said that:

 

"We will pass your request on to the relevant departments for you."

 

I'd like to at least think he was being honest lol.
