On the old dwarf armybook I used to have only one runepriest hidden behind a rock popping runes of dispell whenever a dangerous spell went out, but in the new edition you need at least 2 runepriest for the same effect, besides you have the armourpiercing rule which is given to any infantry unit the runpriest or runelord joins and on another note, what happens with units of Thunderers or Quarrelers when a runepriest/lord joins them, does the melee weapon get the armour piercing? or the long range weapon? or both? the armybook does not specify it is exclusive for either. This would change some of my gameplay drastically.

BRB pg 67 "Wounds caused in CC by a model with this special rule". Any RS/RL giving the Armour Piercing special rule does so in this way. The only way for a ranged weapon to have AP, is if the weapon itself sates it has AP in it's own specific Special Rules.

As for the title of the thread. Kind of a cheap way for GW to say, "Hey, I know your spending 200+ pts just to to not participate in magic, so here's AP, enjoy!". You want 1-2 RS in your army just to manage magic phases, so the bonus AP is nice. And against high AS opponents it's very nice. This with the +1S on charge makes GW warriors do some dmg to even the best AS opponent. Overall I'd say it's very nice to have, especially with the Firey Ring of Thori or Silver horn Combos, Runesmiths have some versatility and it almost makes you forget your spending a good deal of pts just to stop magic, when other Armies spend the same pts for lvl3-4s who have better dispell and can cast as well.

Yep a nice bonus to have especially on shieldbeards / ironbreakers as it helps make them that little bit more choppy. Also don't forget runesmiths also give the unit MR.
I belive it can. So a rs in a unit with sanct gives that unit mr 2.
I do hope mr changes in 9th edition

You use the highest MR from one souces in a unit. DOn't have my BRB or AB with me right now, but I believe it is worded in a way to make that BRB ruling stick. So if you have a RP in a unit with one Ro Sanctuary, they have MR1.
