Hi there everyone,

This is my first post on this forum, so I think I should introduce myself. I am an old (well not that old, but in my warhammer community old) gamer, who have been out of the hobby for the last couple of years. Finally time allows me to return, and I have descided on starting a new army. My primary army have been the High elfs (elgis, I know), but with the release of the new Dwarfs I have descided to move over to the beard side.

Beeing new to the dwarf army and only occasionally played some games with the current edition ruleset I will probably look like a complete noob. But with some time, and hopefully some help from you guys, I hope I will be getting up to speed.

So, with introduction out of the way, it is time to move over to the topic.

Playing a static dwarf gunline is not something for me. I want to play an army that is fun for both players, movable, yet hard, not waac, but tough enough to win at least half my games - and I really love the idea of fast moving, steamfireing gyrocopters.

So, do any of you have any experience running a Dwarf airforce list? I am thinking 4-6 gyrocopters and 1-2 gyrobombers. I have been thinking a bit on combining those fast moving elements with a strollaz-list, but maby those two elements contradicts eachother. With a strollaz list my infantry are eager to see combat as soon as possible, giving my gyrocopters less time fireing at the enemy. Maybe a combined armes list would be better? What are your experience?

And finally, what does the fluff says about mass gyro armies? Are some clans/holds more likely to field mass gyros than others?

Thanks for all help in advance!

First off welcome to the forum, it's a great plafce with many knowledge dwarfs. Unfortunatley i'm not one   :smiling: however i will try my best. Think think airforce can work with Strollaz, Big blocks go for their blocks gyro's pick off the chaff, WM etc. Only issue you may find is that with that many gyro's you will fill your Special and rare allocation, which will impact the quality of your vanguarding blocks.

Well it all highly depends on the points you're playing. Copters work quite well with Strollaz' i agree as they reach small things Organ Guns can't. Yet, you're gonna need your special infantry since they are your only good way of handling your opponents own toughies when you're so far from your own warmachines.

I'm very much a beginner myself, but I think gyros and strollaz sounds like a great combo. It forces pressure and target priority issues on your opponent early.
Sadly I'm not as familiar with my dwarf lore as I would like to be, but add in an engineer and maybe an organ gun and I see promise of a great backstory.

Zhufbar has a 'formidable airfleet' according to the book. There's a pretty cool Zhufbar throng pic as well...

Good luck!

The problem I see with Strollaz and airforce is that it makes it limits the use of the grudgebuster bomb.  The bombers can't vanguard so there is an increased risk of friendly fire when your forces are more quickly engaged with the enemy.

The most important thing in a strollaz list will in most cases be good hard blocks. After that you can spend your points on flyers.

Thanks for all your comments so far!

I am still a bit unsure whether to combine strollaz and airforce. As Halfmad says, friendly fire from the bomb could be a problem. There is also one other question to consider. Do I want to engage the enemy early on with so much bombing and steaming power flying around? Maybe it would be better to just wait for him to engage. But on the other hand, Refhas point on target prioritation is a valid one. I really like the idea of three gyros and three nail-hard blocks of dwarf infantry in the opponents face on turn one. Such a sight ougth to cause a lot of panic. Oh, choices, choices...

Seefood argues for good hard blocks of infantry, and I do agree. One big block of shieldbeards are probably a good start. But what more to bring. I like the irondrakes, and vanguarding them seems good. But if they are to get 2xslowness, a BSB with grungi and strollaz is the only way to go. And then, using my final points on hammerers or ironbreakers?

I have 2 lists im gonna try soon that fits the theme.
The first is 3 Strollaz blocks and 5 Gyrocopters (3 Vanguard) No bombers. This makes sure, that everything is up in the opponents face, and 2 Gyros sit back and protect My maschines.
The second is a Gunline with 2 bombers and some Gyros, No Vanguard. These sit behind One or two turns. So they wont get fokus fire as easily. The times i have tried the Gyros, i have been too offensive with Them, so My copters died before My main army joined the fray.

That T 5 is golden, but there is alot of stuff that Can tear it to pieces with some Lucky 6'ers

Welcome to the forums!

In my Strollaz lists Ive tried everything from 2 to 5 gyrocopters and (for me anyway), I find that 2 copters (1 vanguard) is the best balance.  That gives you one that can vanguard up behind enemy lines and enough points for all the troops that a full-strollaz list requires.  I look forward to seeing what you've come up with and how it performs for you.
