Now that the organ gun needs to roll to hit, and uses the ballistic skill of the crew, does it suffer the -1 penalty for long range?

I'm looking through the shooting rules on page 40 of the main rule book and also the the Organ Gun entry, but can't make heads or tails of it.

Thanks all in advance.

BS3 with -1 to Hit needs 5s on a possible 4-20 S5 Armor Piercing shots...

I'll take those odds.

Rune of accuracy and ME frankly. then watch people cry when you open up on their knightly units. s5 armour piecing tends to leave heavy cav and mega cav hurting. and typically these big investment point units are worth more then the cost of ME + OG and runes, and their potential destructive ability if not shot down is worth far more again.

I feel organguns are purely there to eliminate elite cav/infantry that we don't want to have to deal with in combat.

Vs 1+ armor saves/ toughness 4 rune of penetrating + ME is technically better than accuracy + ME. By about 3%

Hey guys I don't have my book now, but the organ gun does not have the "multiple shots rule". So I will check when I get home. But if the rule is not there then no -1 to shooting. The empires hell blaster doesn't have that rule as well.

That is correct, however it still has to put up with long range.

Put rune of forge on there and +1 to het and they are champ! Wiped out a chaos chariot first turn did five wounds to a daemon prince( saved them all) and thinned out a chaos chosen unit (after some very clever redirection with gyros). They really are awesome now.

My last game I had 2 OG with master engineers. One had penetrating the other had accuracy. They were expensive but nothing that got within 30" survived.

Nothing's free, but even just accuracy can be a big help.

What do you ppl think of the un-runed OG? Im currently trying out two un-runed OG in my lists, and it seem to be worth it. Started doing it since i dont have enough points in rare to get two runed ones, am also running 18 Irondrakes with FC, Trollpedo and vanguard.

Right, but its funny that people are going on about how great a runed up OG is with a ME. So? It better be good for 225+ points. A decent hit with magic/missiles or a bad round of combat will destroy it.

Two such Organ guns will be a sizable chunk of your army. Its a serious investment in your points.

Personally, I would take two plain Organ Guns before one OG all runed up with an Engineer. Play it & see how it does.

I use this to ask another OG question:

I used the Organ gun last night.
I had an Engineer next to it and decided that he would help the OG instead of shooting, The OG was runed with Forg and Acc. I took aim at a unit of 6 trolls and rolled a 2 and a 4. I decided to reroll the 2 with the Engineer. I rolled a Misfire and explained I had the Rune of Forging on the OG so I was about to reroll the Misfire, but my oponment to me NO! I couldn't reroll a reroll, he said.
I agreed to this, but I feel I could have rerolled since the Engineer let me reroll any artillery and forging let me reroll whenever a misfire occurs, but I have to accept THAT second roll...
I ended up with two shot and I didnt even hurt the trolls :-P

But how does the combo with an Engineer and RoForging work?

Your opponent was correct, You can't re-roll a re-roll.  On page 7 of the small rulebook "...no single dice can be re-rolled more than once, regardless of the source of the re-roll."
