At what points range is it good to start investing in a bsb?

I think as early as 1000 points, as it makes us very hard to break, and we are already hard to break lol.

yeah, 65 pt thane tanked up by 75pts is pretty hard to kill in combat, 25 point bsb is safe.

I usually give my BSB more importance than my General. Then again, commanding my bearded friends with our lovely LD 9 all around, doesn't make it that hard...

I always take a BSB because as soon as I don't, I fail nearly every leadership check.

I keep him basic, with maybe stone, until about 1250/1500 points where I start adding the usual tank build runes.

I usually use a runesmith as general and magic defense, and keep him out of the action and a tanky thane bsb at 1000pts.

What do you give to your Bsb to tank him up? I know I read the rules wrong in the past, making the standard a runic one, and therefore stopping myself from upping the stats on the thane. Any help would be gratefully looked at.

One of the most common builds is MRo Gromil, Ro Resistance, Ro Preservation. This makes him pretty much unkillable and gives you a few extra points to play with if you want to give him a ward against fire or even a runed weapon. The build I've been using of late is MRo Gromil, Ro Resistance, and MRo Challenge. I drop him in with my Hammerers and then screw with my opponent's battle line by forcing a charge/flee he'd rather not have to make.

This. Toughness 5, RR 1+ AS, immune to killing blow. The only dangers are opponents with super high strengths or those that ignore armor saves, and to be honest those aren't that common.

Nothing hurts more than losing a game because your hammerers fluff a break test (I've had that happen before. It hurts). The first BSB is only 155 points, but he is worth it. Consider putting the rune of fire on his handweapon. Gives him magical attacks (etheral units usually are pretty weak, and that means they can't hold up your hammerers), and causes fear against Cav.

I am not meaning to sound Ungrateful the comments but the question is when I should get a bsb points (500, 1000, 2000...) wise not what I should take with him.

I'd say 1000. Anything before that, and the points are just too much. Under 1k are usually warband games, or close enough to it. When choosing between a BSB and an organ gun in a game under 1k points, the organ gun wins.

1000pts. just don't let him die in cc. that additional 100 points is massive in a 1000pt game.
