Hi all from Ukraine 

 

I'm starting a big project: Air Force Dwarfs
Since it is connected with the dwarves, there should be a lot of steam, iron, and machinery. And it all has to "fly."
First in line is ... airship. I can imagine how to be a balloon. Armament consists of five guns on each side, a few surprises and guns on hinges - "turrets" on the deck.
I have a small problem, I can `t decide which to do" gondola ". As a normal ship with additional elements, iron brick or something else. I'll be glad to get advice, drawings.

This project, I thought over for a long time, looking for arts, collecting material, saved ideas. Now I will proceed to the most important part - the assembly.

Will you convert a tabletop ready army all into flying? Even infantry regiments?

I will not touch ready army. I have ideas how to raise the air thunderers. But  if the all army will be in the air, transport it would be problematic.

Four would be best as being an air ship it can't be too heavy because then wouldn't get off the ground.

I also think that 4 look better, but worried that will not be enough firepower. This problem i know how to decide.

Actually, Bonecrusher makes a very valid point.  Perhaps a forward & aft gun as well?  As a weight thing, you could use smaller canon, break up an organ gun?

Thinking about it what would be the job for an airship. Other races don't really have much in the way of arial warfare, save for a few riding flying creatues. So mostly you'll be shooting downwards from an elevated position so smaller cannons than standard could work and give the same distance if not more than a standard cannon due to the elevation. So main job would be from a distance and bombarding troops on the ground.

The newer cannons are good for this as they are breach loading rather than muzzle loading, and come with shells (though still don't understand how they "bounce" in normal games). So if could be a possibility have cannons positioned on angles through the hull pointing downward so can shoot almost directly below if needs be.

I would agree on some for of gun on the front and back of the ship though.

Perhaps taking cue from Pirates of Caribbean, you could stick together three organ gun barrels and have them as rotating cannon with three barrells.

Smaller, lighter cannons would look appropriate, though l wouldn't worry too much about weight- real airships are actually extremely good at lifting weight compared to planes, they can lift huge amounts of cargo.

If the airship will be in close combat - it is necessary to protect its bottom. For those who come close I have prepared a surprise.
