As I've decided to convert small Dwarf army (starting small as I have other projects) I thought I'd build it to a list. I want to have an effective force, but also not have to convert endless numbers of infantry. As such, I'd appreciate feedback on this list:

Runesmith - Rune of Stone and Great Weapon.
Thane - BSB, Rune of Stone and Great Weapon.

173 - characters

28 Warriors - Great Weapons. Standard and Musician.
19 Quarrellers - Great Weapons. Standard and Musician.

557 - core

Grudge Thrower - Runes Accuracy and Penetration.

130 - Special

Flame Cannon

140 - Rare

1000 points in total

My thinking is that you need magical defence and a BSB at almost any points level. No Dwarf army should go to war without some warriors. Crossbows and great weapons are what everyone thinks of when they think about dwarf brewer-warriors. The Grudge Thrower will lob barrels of soured ale and the Flame Cannon is made from a large keg.

How do people think this would work on the table? Also, what would people change to match the theme?

Assuming you want to keep your RS and BSB they need a few more runes to be effective. Keeping it cheap I would suggest Spellbreaking for the RS and MRoGromril for the BSB. Your BSB can;t take a GW unless you house-rule that he can, so maybe give him a Rune of Fire for anti-regeneration and anti-ethereal duty.

Warriors and Quarrellers with GW are good.

GT is good

FC is very underpowered for the points, but hey, if it fits your theme...

A runesmith without anti-magic runes is not worth taking. Give him at least one spellbreaker (or MRoBalance), or drop him.
Since his job is to provide magic defense, not to bash the enemy, he should have a shield and not a great weapon.

Pay for MRoGromril on the BSB. For less than two crossbows, your roughly double his survivability over just Stone.

The Errata nerfing the Flame Cannon range changed it from a poor machine to a TERRIBLE one. At most it should be able to take one shot a game. I don't see how it should ever get more than one. Use the model as an Organ Gun.

Griegsson - my understanding was that 8th allows BSBs to take GWs.

Rules in the army books take precedence over the rule book in general, and in the dwarf book it says he can't. And it hasn't been 'errata'd. Most tournaments allow BSBs from older books to take mundane upgrades, but RAW it isn't allowed.

Interesting. I think it'd take a fairly anal player to say you couldn't take mundane equipment now, but I'll bare that in mind. Cheers, Griegsson.
