I'm wondering if you roll for the first turn before or after scouts and vanguard move is done?

Is casket of souls spell a bound spell or an ability? If it is an ability you can cast 6 dice and hope to get IF and the casket wont die....

Casket is an ability, so no losing the light of death when rolling a misscast.

Joinas:

Depends on the battle, but whenever is roll after deployment, than it is AFTER scouts and Vanguard.

Yes, casket is innate ability. But TK have many other different things to do than roll 6 dice for the casket. The army is rather a weaker one, so they should have at least something.

With scouts it's easy; those are deployed during deployment (the last thing to be deployed, but it's still the deployment phase), after which follows rolling for first turn.

Vanguard however isn't really part of deployment, it's simply a move, like strollaz's rune. Off the top of my head the vanguard rule states something to the effect of 'before the first turn is taken', which is sadly not clear enough wether it is before or after is rolled who actually takes first turn. I recall myself thinking this question before as the rules are not clear enough on it.

Luckily the FAQ answers this conundrum:

Q: Must units with the Vanguard deployment special rule be moved

before the roll to see who gets the first turn? (p79)

A: Yes.

The casket: The casket has a boundspell, but this boundspell does not come from a boundspell item, but is an innate ability. If it were an item and IF is rolled, the item would be destroyed, however with innate boundspells nothing nasty happens whatsoever.
