Posting in all capitals is generally considered rude.
Why do you have a runic weapon on your Runelord? And why also have a great weapon?
Why even have the two Thains? Even assuming they survive to swing (far from certain), the first one probably cannot wound anything with multiple wounds, and the second one will do just as much damage with a cheaper weapon.
Full command on 10 crossbows is wasteful. The champ does nothing, the musician little, and the banner probably won't matter.
No great weapon units leave you with a clear lack of combat power. How does your army destroy the enemy?

I'm no expert by any means, so I could be wrong, but I don't think you can take a Lord (Runelord) under 2k points. Also, I think you should only worry about taking 1 Thane and give him a Battle Standard, then I've been told to give him runes like MRo Gromril and Ro Resistance.

Hey weeman, thanks for posting.
I have to echo some of what David L has said. We hit last against almost all opponents and we have no multi-attack rank and file other than slayers, so you have to make sure that you hit damn hard to stand a chance of winning combats. You are not going to do that equipping shields on str3 dawi.
Your longbeards with shields are fine - they'll do well against t3 infantry if used as an anvil (used to pin another unit in place in close combat, allowing the heavy hitters to get into the flank.
In general, the following rules for command groups work out well:
Standard - useful in close combat units, and for giving you more staying power in the blood and glory scenario.
Champion - To take challenges for your characters. Otherwise, given the cost of our champions, you could put another body into the unit instead.
Musician - the ability to win a combat with a musician is useful, but swift reform is the real key here. Most useful in combat blocks to change to/from horde, it can also be useful in your missle units to get in the way of something that is trying to charge war machines, whilst being able to reform into a formation that stands a better chance of holding.
Also, the shields on your quarrellers are mainly superfluous when they'll be fighting with GWs.

lzencantm, you are incorrect. The army selection rules in the Dwarf army book are from 6th edition. The current Errata/FAQ available from the GW website explicitly obsoletes those pages of the army book in 8th edition.

Ah great! Thanks David L and sorry weeman if I confused you at all.

sorry copy and pasted from the sheet i was handing in to the organiser, he likes it in capitals.
the people i go up against move straight against any shooting units so was thinking of trying to make them a little harder to kill.
in my last tournament i used gw for my units and they did nothing for me, felt it was a waste of pts.
what would you suggest i use instead for my units?

This is the list I used in my last 1500 tournament, and I've had many practice games with it too. It has given me the greatest success of any other list I've tried in 8th Ed.
Runesmith 127 Pts
General; Shield, Ro Stone, Ro Spellbreaking (x2)
Thane 165 Pts
BSB, MRo Gromril, Ro Resistance, MRo Challenge
29 Longbeards 408 Pts
Shield; Standard; Musician
Ro Battle, Ro Determination
29 Warriors 305 Pts
Great Weapon; Standard; Musician
Cannon 130 Pts
Ro Burning, Ro Forging
Cannon 125 Pts
Ro Forging
Organ Gun 120 Pts
Organ Gun 120 Pts
Total Army Cost: 1500
I almost always put my Runesmith in the Warriors and I always put my BSB in my Longbeards. But both characters have been frequently used to pop out of units to fight on their own. My BSB has even held off 10 Chaos knights of Tzeentch and then a horde of Marauders with flails. Admittedly he was in a forest (which gives him stubborn) but the characters are also good at fighting rat darts, saber toothed cats and other chaff type units that would normally get in the way and harass war machines.
I use 2x spellbreakers on my Runesmith, but that is my preference. You could easily swap them for MRo Balance if that is what you like.
Feel free to use any or all of my list as you see fit. I've had some really great games with it, so I'm happy to share if someone else is interested
