Hitting it with the hair dryer to get the surface bubble to pop, but I blew some residual dust off the rocks onto the epoxy, so it was a wash

Thanks Z_blade! There was once little baby leak:

dEhi2IX.jpg

And some did get into one of the corners of the skull ball pit (see page 24), so I’ll need to add a few skulls to cover that. And my little mirror cube flooded, but it still works just fine. All in all, I can’t believe how easy it was!

I used this alcohol ink, which definitely didn’t mix in with the epoxy, but the streaking of color looks cool anyway. I had a 1-gallon paint pot I got empty from the store, and a two gallon bucket I got from Home Depot for like $3. Pouring from one to the other apparently facilitates mixing. The instructions said to mix for 12 mins, and pour when it was 90 F, but the temperature never went above ambient (about 75 F). I waited until almost 20 mins after I’d started mixing, then I poured.

I had to kinda push it around to cover everything, and getting all the nooks was a little hard. I’m not sure if it would have spread out fully on its own. The hair dryer did a good job moving the epoxy around, and I probably could have used that instead of the paint stir sticks I had.

I really should have blown everything out with compressed air to minimize dust, but oh well, you’re never going to think of everything. $70 of epoxy (1 gallon) is where I wanted it, and I don’t have to worry any more!

Looks wonderful! The dark, mirky water really made the cave look like the very edge of the Dwarven kingdom where you venture at your own peril. The only thing it`s missing is Gollum rowing towards his tiny island placed somewhere.

You really need to film a presenation of the whole hold when it`s done.

It’s been a while, but my pick has not been idle! I’ve been going through the dwarf fort level by level jazzing things up and repairing minor damage which accumulated over the years (and over the little girls who are now playing with the fort).

The gate house and the great hall don’t have too much exciting changes. But things get a little more fun as we go deeper. Here is a full-scale brewery added to the forge:
prCmxQF.jpg

The chapel in the dorm level has always been on my radar and was never competed for some reason, so I got to work on that:

Here is the completed shot:
kt4bF7f.jpg

The big copper piece is a piece of real native copper my dad gave me to use in the dwarf fort.

And here are some rune tablets I made with brass tunes from greenstuffworld:
W0ujC2i.jpg

The left one says “The first thing Tak did he wrote himself” after a discworld dwarf scripture, and the right one says “Religion that god our father accepts as pure and faultless is this”.

And here are some dudes and bits I painted to fill up shelves in the dorm, plus some target practice stuff:

I used the last bits I wanted off a ton of sprues and threw them away, which felt illegal.

Thanks Luigi, here the final additions to the dorm level!

The dorm is done!
8QY6DMY.jpg

You’ve seen the chapel, but I’ve also gone through and added detail in other places. There is a new archery butts in what was a plain hallway, and the secret sally port now has a door:
vKc7rLh.jpg

The bathroom now exists, complete with a dwarf with a loofah, and everyone’s favorite troubled dwarf. I used water effect for the bath and sink:
goYiZcb.jpg

QGhnp0q.jpg

I made a room into a bit of a hospital. My 3-year-old said the sick dwarf should be on a leaf bed, so I made some leaf beds.
LuCZPZn.jpg
This is the guy from the black orc banner. You’ll be happy to hear that he should make a full recovery.

There is a music hall for all the musician miniatures:
UFNENT2.jpg

Compete with sheet music for “Don Geodevanni, A-miner”
TC554IR.jpg
Special thanks to my twin and Tim for that pun

The weapons room is well-stocked, including the obligatory “shining spears laid in horde” from Gimli’s poem from LotR
p9ClyqN.jpg

And finally the old jail from 2012 is returned to full strength with a more durable construction:
hJR1o6Z.jpg

I’ve been working my way down from the top to get the whole dwarf fort 100% completed, and now I only have two more levels to do (mines and lake)! Stay tuned for more!

I...
I am at a loss for words.
This looks incredible.

In this last update I'm loving the bathing slayer and the armory!

How did you make that archery target?

Thanks Luigi! It was a lit of fun to make all these little details that I never had time for until now. The bath slayer is probably my favorite part, too!

The archery butt is actually the one thing on this level which was 3D printed. We got the file off Thingiverse and my buddy printed it. Then I glued the backs of some arrows from a goblin sprue on, which I think really helps.

I’m now going through and fixing up the mines, which don’t need quite as much work. However, I’m always able to find new things to add as I mess around in a level, so I have a few new bits I’m working on.
