Hey guys,
It be only my second post so far and on a unrelated note I am happy to be here, its better and seems more friendly than some of the other Army-sites.
But anyway back on to my question, I am looking into buy a dwarf army, as a 2nd year student and holder of four armies already (3 Fantasy, 1 40k) I have limited funding, enough to start from GW, but I have seen some other Dwarf models that look pretty cool and for alot cheaper, I was wondering if anyone here has non-standard dwarf models or even a non-standard dwarf army.
Thanks for reading guys.

I have a 2500pts dwarf army and its mostly black tree design and some gamezone. I only have characters and old metal miners from GW.
I live in Sweden so I do not go to many official GW tournaments so I am free to use whatever minis I find suitably.

I use non g.w. products all the time in the Dwarf, Orc/Goblin, WoC, and High Elf armies and have even competed at g.w. g.t's. No one was the wiser and I even had one of my units being photographed which ended up in the w.d. No harm no foul but be advised there aer some people in some g.w. establishments will not allow you this freedom of expression while play a friendly game on their corp premises.

This topic has been discussed more times than I care to count..... My advise, follow your pocket book and pick your battlefields where there are no jerks or g.w. people who will disallow your freedom.

Lots of members on here use none GW models. As a general rule GW stores and their tournies won't allow you to use them in store. Which to be honest is fair, your using their stuff promoting their hobby to potential customers, why should they let you promote another miniature manufacturer. But if you have a non gw gaming store, or a very nice gw staff then get the models you like and can afford.

Thanks guys, I know my local GW store doesn't let people use none GW models, its fair enough and I understand it but I am not a huge fan of 'legless' Dwarfs, I have a gaming group that i play with and they don't mind, I just didn't want to be the only guy here that used a non-GW army for my dwarfs (went with mantic for now) and was a little worried some people here may be a little upset with me if it ever came up.

@Skazastoki
I totally agree with you, thanks for the info

I use what ever I like and fits with my original dwarf purchases from the 1980's
used to do that for my space orks but they increased in size so used the new box game to redo my ork units
Do what you thinks matches you - find a style of dwarves you like 'cause there is a huge variety out there

I've been looking at some of the Avatar of War stuff, the pictures I've seen looking amazing. Not sure what size they are, but think they're about the same size as GW miniatures...

There are a few other good dwarf models out there, but I haven'd any I think are nearly as good as GW's...so I stick to there's. If budget is a problem I'd advise using ebay or bartertown, both good places to get models at a cheaper price.

Thanks guys, makes me feel a little better knowing I am not the only one with non-GW dwarfs, I got my first box of dwarfs yesterday (mantic KoW) I thought I was going to deal with second best, but I really prefer the Mantic ones, a little more cartoony but bigger and look more animated, anyway, thanks guys

Being Australian (and broke!) I make a point of not buying GW mini's. Of course sometimes there are models that are soooo good, there is just no other option. But when there is (another option, that is), I prefer non-GW everytime. I'm loving AoW's indegogo program at the moment, but as there prices are roughly equivalent to GW I can't afford those either.

ooo that sounds like a bad situation, I am from the UK, which seems to be a heart of miniature war gaming but doesn't mean I am any less broke haha, so I know the feeling.

Ya UK is the word hub for minature wargaming, lot better for most game systems to play in the UK, as more players and cheaper prices, but I live in the US and I'm certainly not complaning...prices are pretty similar to what they are in the UK and there is no supply problems. I feel bad for you Australians Tegnus..

+1 every 3-4 months, someone brings up the topic.

And they do well to do so imo, people love the game but hate either the models or the prices. Or both!
Black tree design has ugly models don't like them at all, AoW has some good ones (but the recent move was a real turn off!) Companies should respect gamers imo :rtfm:

Then again, gamezone has nice models but expensive. The only positive thing is what I said before, gamers are looking for something new... :big_boss:

Google dark sphere units of dw are £15 and everything else is cheaper too. It doesn't sell everything in our list but quite a lot. My brother has used the site and it has a shop in London and the models are totally legit. Every little bit saved helps!

Just googled Dark Sphere... 10 miners for £12 isn't bad :)

Of course, mainly some Avatars of War heroes because of their high quality and then one or two Hasslefree Dwarves for the fun of it. For my Chaos Dwarfs I have 30 Titan Wargames Royal Guard miniatures (http://www.titanwarg...ves/royal-guard) and the AoW Dwarf Lord of Chaos, with some planned non-GW purchases as well as GW ones.

Whilst both I and my brother and friends like to keep ourselves to GW for the most part, we do allow ourself some AoW luxury and the odd other non-GW miniature, if we need a basis for a conversion or just like the looks of some models. Due to GW pricing policy we have also began to use Mantic Undead and soon also Goblins. The goal is to create a splendid army, and then any miniature that will help towards this end will be welcomed into our collections. Although the majority of miniatures will still be of GW origin, from quite some different periods.

I bought a scribor dwarf but unfortunately it is out of scale when stood next to my plastic GW dwarves. Can anyone who has avatars of war models tell me how well they compare in scale side by side to GW ones? I am thinking about buying the bezerker box but I don't want to repeat the same mistake!

I think mixing models from different companies is fine, especially when it is more cost efficient!
