Hi guys, have been a lurker for a while and decided to sign up as yesterday as I started work on some dwarfs I have had lying around for a while and hopefully having this will keep me going.

Have decided to try and get a full 2000 pt army together for Spring Showdown which is the 22nd of April so just under a month to get everything built and painted from scratch.

My list is as follows:

Dwarf Lord-Shield, shield bearers, R resistance, MR spite

Runelord-Shield, R stone, 2x Spelleaters, spelleater

Thane- BSB, MR Gromril, R resistance

2x20 quarrellers-muso, standard, GWs

24 Hammerers-muso, standard

Cannon-forging, burning

2 x Grudge throwers-pen, accuracy

Organ gun

Its quite a low model count army with only 79 models plus the warmachines to build and paint, still waiting on a battalion box to start building my quarrellers and hammerers which I will be converting from the warriors box as i'm not a fan of metal mini's for tournament use as they need repainting after a few outings.

Anyway yesterday I started work on the warmachines, managed to get the cannon and both grudge throwers 80% done:

Will update more when I get some more done, currently working on converting my runelord and BSB from a spare anvil of doom and getting all my bases and movement trays done so when I get all my models delivered I can start work on them straight away.

  • Hang in there
  • little bites and you then have a unit
  • .change units - do 5 of one then 5 of another if you are getting jaded
  • just some ideas to get it done

Keep up the good work!

1/ Make the lord more tanky.

2/ Your runelord is a bit overkill, but ok, if you want him so. Just make sure you do not have 3 spelleaters as that with a RoStone is over the limit. It is 150, I believe).

Good luck! :buba:

Ye due to work I can't really paint during the week but get at least 10 hours spare at a weekend so hoping 30 hours should be enough at just under 30 mins a model.

Cheers for the tips, while painting my warriors I got into a system of doing one colour on everything ie all the blues on the 79 models then all yellows etc etc and it has speeded up painting so much, its not going to win awards for painting but I can very quickly get a basecoated washed highlighted model on the table which I can come back to later to touch up.

I did want the rune of steel on there but only 500 pts for lords is very restrictive wanting to have both him and the runelord in at 2400 he will have a bit more kit but just hoping people think he is more tanked up than he is and stay away while the hammerers around him do the damage. Admit the runelord is a bit cheesy but means I should be controlling magic at most people will only have 1 level 4/ 2 lv 2's at 2000pts which I can shut down fairly easy. Will probably only get a couple of practise games in so is going to be a quick learning curve.

no probs - like your approach - that is how I used to do my historical figures for commisions - for myself I tend to do one or 2 at a time and quickly build up to lots of figures quickly
(but then I spend between i-2 hrs a day and about 3-4 on week ends
Finished 10 spider rider in a day and did that Ork warlord in a day

Quick update with what I got on with yesterday, I have a load of spare 20mm bases knocking around so decided to magnetise them all and get them painted up ready for when I can pick my battalion box up from my LGS (hopefully this wednesday). So got all of my bases magnetised, gravelled, sprayed and painted up as well as magnetising my resin movement trays and getting them all ready.

Posted Image

I think they look ok and it only took around an hour for each tray with all the bases in, by the time I had finished waiting for one set of bases to dry the others were ready so had a good supply line going on.

Also finished up converting my runelord from the spare anvil I had, its basically just a quick arm swap using an arm from the thunderer set and a skaven plague monk hand holding a book but it should end up looking ok.

Posted Image

And finally I started work on my first unit and got 10 quarallers built up and started painting, have to say the old plastic kits are terrible, they are a pain to fit together and there are mould lines everywhere! They weren't enjoyable to put together at all and I hope the warriors boxes which I am converting my hammerers from are better as it may end up taking me longer to put them together than painting them.

I am about 3-4 hours in there and the girlfriend is out tonight so I am hoping to get them finished tonight.

You are making good progress there friend. And nice too! One note though. (not sure if mentioned) but you cannot have two GT's with the same rune-kit.

Hello and welcome to the Brewery! :)

I'm really liking your progress so far. The war machine looks great, really liking the scenic base. The Runelord conversion is looking pretty interesting - looking forward to seeing him painted! I'm curious if the model works as a standalone :D

And yeah - I really have to agree with you, the old plastics are bad. I just recently assembled 20 goblins and was really shocked to see that they had no hand weapons in the kit!! Wtf... Also the mold lines are so bad, it took me like an hour to clean up four goblins... eugh. Anyway, The quarrelers are looking really cool so far!

:hi:

so you finish the bases first, then paint the models separate? what do you attach the models to while you're painting? surely not the finished bases?

d'oh! I do actually have it written down on my paper list that the rune of burning is on one of the grudge thrower but when I was typing it down thought why not have it on the cannon as thats more likely to be getting rid of regen first then GT finishing things off... I remember why not now ;)

I have done it that way purely for speed I am spraying all my bases grey to save me time from individually painting bases after undercoating, where as my models are being sprayed black from the off so they cant go on the bases before spraying if that makes sense? I am attaching them to a piece of cork while I paint them then probably either pin or superglue them to the finished bases once I am done.

makes sense. I think it makes for a cleaner pant job too. not to mention you can do the bases for the entire unit and tray and if you batch paint you an see how the unit is progressing. The way i've done it in the past is to glue the models to the base, then spray and paint then do bases, and I was only able to see how the unit was going to turn out at after I had finished the whole unit and by then it was too late.

how do you attach the models to the cork? sticky tack? Its something I will do with my next army.

For the plastic models I am using blu tack for the metal models like the runelord I am pinning them through the foot then into the cork.

Bad news on the battalion front my LGS hasn't received my battalion box today which means I will be losing a week of building and painting so basically have 2 weeks as it will be next wednesday now to paint 30 quarralers, 24 hammerers and an organ gun....

Will update at weekend with pictures of the finished unit and will make a start on my BSB and runelord.

Thanks for all the replies.

Bases are a mixture of sand/gravel I took from a beach in Spain and small bits of cork, sprayed grey pick out certain rocks with colours, devlan mud then highlight.

Good news on the battalion front have everything I need to complete the army now so going to make a start on it this bank holiday weekend so should be able to catch up on the time I lost last weekend.

Does anyone know where to get anymore hammer heads for converting hammerers from the great weapon arms as can only find about 16 in the warriors and quarrallers set.

Also had my first game with dwarfs last night, had to proxy quite a lot obviously but got a massive win against vamps, he only had a spirirt host and a corpse cart left at the end and I lost and organ gun to a misfire and a unit of quarrallers (which single handedly destroyed a spirit host, 10 dogs, 6 crpyt horrors and a mortis engine).

Will update over weekend.

Cheers.

Quite a big update for today, found out yesterday I got today and Monday off for bank holiday so got up early this morning and opened up the battalion box, got all my hammerers converted over by chopping up the great weapons from the warriors sprues and using any hammer/anvil heads I could find to swap them with.

Posted Image

Also built up another 20 quarrellers and here is where I need your guys help because I am using the contents of the battalion to create my remaining 4 quarrellers I have 4 warrior bodies but no torso's so I am looking for 4 quarreller torso's, 4 of the arms with two hands on the crossbow and 4 crossbows with the string drawn back I have paypal and a beer for anyone who can help in the next few days :)

Also built up my organ gun and its crew so everything bar the last 4 quarrellers are built and cleaning up my girlfriend is at work tomorrow so I will have another full day, plan to get these guys all sprayed up this evening and start painting tomorrow hopefully getting another unit complete and the organ gun wrapped up.

Cheers

@Stewar Ha don't worry it usually takes me a lot longer to paint armies which is why I have signed up for tournaments with the army so I know I have to get it painted otherwise I am wasting my money and the club I go to is geared heavily towards tournaments so its good to have it all painted up.

Kudos on recognising the sig :)

Update from yesterday burnt myself out ,got all the blue's and coppers done for everything as well as all the yellows on my second unit of quarrellers depending on how much time I get this afternoon I may even try get it all finished today so can get some proper practise games in.

Here are the images of where I am at as of this morning:
