I just wanted to take the time to say a huge big thanks to everyone that showed up at the event :) It was great to meet a few of you in person and share more than a few beers and talking all things hobby, amongst a few other topics about 3 ales in! ;)

High Elf and Elithmar saved the day with a considerable force of Elgi; with a commandeered captain, they made a valiant attempt at pushing back the tide of angry bearded warriors!

The board looked epic with 12K of Dwarfs attacking about 9K of Elves on battlements. Day 2 had a lot of passers by asking questions, as did Dourin's almighty zepplin! (That may get into WNT over at GW!)

Each general had a finely painted army, my personal favourite being Thane Morgran's, it's painted to a high standard with some great touches on banners and bases. I did my best to take a few photos for you as he's been very modest to date about getting all his minis on his blog.

I apologise to those making the effort to fly over by not having a slightly larger event. I really bit off more than I could chew, especially considering various RL topics all kicking off at similar times! Next year we'll try to be a bit better organised and we're hoping people being able to refer back to the pics of this one will be keener to tag along :)

My hope is that this becomes an annual event where we have a platform for meeting up and collectively obliterating our foes!! ;)

Thanks again for helping make this work and be as enjoyable as it was. Oh, and one last thing, "...NICE TO BE NICE!!!" (Private joke, you really had to be there!)

Yeah, it was great. Thanks to everyone who turned up. :)

May I remind you that we only had about 8k between us, and more than 1k was in the relief force who turned up too late and on the wrong board edge. Nah, don't worry, we'll win next year. ;)

I agree that Thane Morgran's army was excellent. I remember seeing a purple banner that was perfectly shaded. The other Dwarf armies were stunning too, even if they were just Dwarfs. ;) And I never knew Dwarfs could raise their dead to fight again, Vanyon. I thought that was only Vampires. ;) :D HighElf had done a brilliant job on Teclis with the blending on the cloak. And even my mother liked one of the level 2s! ;)

Sorry my army wasn't completed (far from it!) but I hope it'll be done for next year. Maybe I'll have better luck with a painted army. I think it must have been because they were unpainted that I kept rolling 10s and 11s for leadership tests in the final battle. :D

Well I hope we do it again next year, as I really enjoyed it this time. Nice to see Warhammer World too. It's a shame the players from different countries won't be able to come again next year, but understandable. I'll try
my best to press gang some more members of Ulthuan.net to come next time. After all, it's boring chopping off Dwarf heads on your own! ;) :P

Oh, and I'll get my battle reports up soon on Ulthuan, and I'll also add my few pictures to the hoard here.

Thank again, guys, and a special thanks to Alebelly for organising the whole event and even coming along without an army!

Glad to hear everyone had a good time, I can't wait to see the pictures. Once again I appologise for having to withdraw my forces before the event, but real life comes first. May I suggest if we do another one, we book it nowish and not on a weekday/"special" day.

Let's have a bit of a break before we start thinking about another? :P

If we can, a future event will be held on a school holiday, just so that it's as open to as many people as possible. Let's just not make it on Valentine's Day?! ;)

Now I have a more realistic idea of what's involved and how much dedication you have to commit to getting something like this off the ground, we'll need to do a lot more a lot sooner. It pretty much requres a small team of events co-ordinators to plan and run everything and not really participate as much as they would like in the actual game. That's quite a big ask from people.

In a way, we were fortunate there was only 7 of us as it was easier to handle. Having seen the big 60 man 40K tournament going on, it's a totally different board game! You have to be draconian in the "10 mins left, you snooze, you lose!" etc. It may be worth limiting the event to no more than 10 players per side. Any more than that and we'd have to start charging anyway.

The other thing to consider is the huge amount of time it takes to set up a large scale game and finish on time. It's an anti climax when time is called and you just work out VPs. A system to make the game feel epic and "finished" (narratively speaking) is very much required.

Lots to think about but I'm definitely up for doing it again (with a lot of help!) The venue is a great one and I'm pleased we made the effort :)

Just got back home and started unpacking. Wow, it's really done now, I can't believe how that just flew by! It was my first time over at Warhammer World and I had a blast!

A huge thanks to Alebelly for getting it organized, combined with the ever increasing effort and size of the commemorative miniature-project. Thanks Alebelly!

For the next edition, I'd say a different date then valentine's day might be a good idea. :P

Huge thanks to Thane Morgran, Vanyon as well and Elithmar of Lothern for an awesome event!

Pictures will be going up over the weekend. :)

Getting the photos up will take a long while. Most of the ones I took are on Thane Morgran's camera (I took my camera but left the memory card at home!) There's a load on my phone too, but wouldn't you know it, I left my charger in the hotel room and my phone's died! High Elf took a load also. Between us, we probably have every aspect of day 2, but a full battle report is going to require a group effort due to how much was going on all at once!

"WHO SAAAAY DAT?"

SPEEDY GONZALEZ, that's who!

i've just checked my camera, and found a total of 170 pics, so hopefully enough to give a sense of what happened....

Thanks to all for making a great event, I can't believe how much fun it was! :D Especially thanks to Alebelly for organising it all (and of course our fantastic king model), to Highelf for traveling so far and bringing quite so many elves for us to fight, to Vanyon for his selfless offers of transport and (strange to say) for switching sides at the end of day 2 to allow things to reach a finish, to Ethilmar for adding another seasoned high elf general to the mix and documenting as much as humanly possible (I look forwards to your write ups to see how things were from the other side!), to Alebelly's cousin, who has such a talent for sniffing out a good pub it's hard to believe he's not a dwarf and for helping out however he can, and to Dourin, who's spectacular blimp ensured our table wasn't wanting for attention!

:guinesssmilie: All around!

But next year I'll bring TWO DRAGONS ... (who hopefully will arrive on time to do some actual fighting...)

Thanks to Dan,Matt,Tom,James,Andrew and Steven for the great moments on and off the battlefield.
Hope to see all of you again next time.

@ High Elf - if you're up for coming next year, it would be great to catch up again and throw some more flak your way about playing an army of cheerleaders! ;) But in all seriousness, a huge thanks for making the effort to come as there wouldn't have been much of a fight without you!

If we are on for a rematch, let's get the ball rolling on some scenery. Seeing some of the stuff on show made me want to get the foam out and start sanding! I can't let Dourin have the only zep on the table either...

That's encouraging news! More air support!

Btw Lars, I didn't do so explicitly on the forums yet but thanks to you as well for a great weekend! Even though you're still a pointy eared git. :P
