2500 Ambush List

Hey I have seen lists similar to the following and saw it used with great success at the tournament I went to on the weekend.

The list relies on a gun-line style approach with the flexibility and ambush potential of quarreller rangers and 2 units of 20 miners.

The tournament I'm planning on using it at is only using the pitched-battle scenario so I figure it will make good use of the scenario.

I've included the slayer for a few reasons, one it's a good anvil for holding units in place while the AoD can bring in some flank/rear charges and secondly because they've spent a bit too much time on my self lately so I want to give them a run again for some fun.

The list is as follows:

I think this list could be very fun. I would personally take hammerers in place of the slayers, but as you said you want to use them so ignore that comment. I would personally drop one cannon for an organ gun, they are great at destroying war machine hunters and the like.

Looks amusing, no doubt. It would probably work fairly well if the Miners showed up in time. I suppose until then you could use Wrath and Ruin to try and slow the enemy down.

I can find points to put a steam drill on one of the units to give me an 88% chance of miners coming up turn 2. However, I have used double miners before and it's not always ideal having them both arrive at the same time

Yeh I actually had the 1st wrong one, when I modified the original list I had written up and added a 2nd rune of penetration on the 1st GT, but I forget to add in the points for it. Thanks for the pick up.

I drop the quarreller champ and engineer on the st 4 GT to make up for the points cost

So I tried this list at last night and it didn't really work out that well. The anvil blew up turn 1, the miner units didn't turn up until turn 5 (really need to fit in a steam drill again.

However, the quarrellers and warmachines were fantastic, I managed to win the game from shooting alone. I'll try this list a few more times with some minor modifications. However, I am hesitant to take it to a tournament now, as this is the 2nd game in a row my anvil has blown up turn 1

That is incredibly poor luck for your anvil to keep blowing up first turn. But in my experiences it is amazingly good luck that your shooting was so effective.

Congratulations on the win!!

I think the main reason most generals don't bring the Anvil in tournaments is purely because of the same problem you've faced with it. It can be a whole lot of points to give away with one unlucky roll, or to be taking off with a single stat test spell. Which really is a shame because it should be one of the greatest things in our army. Still it's great for fun games where it isn't so competitive.
