Been playing a lot of Warhammer Online Wrath of Heroes as the Skaven assassin Ikkrik Poisonclaw so I decided to paint him up. The head at his feet is supposed to be decapitated skull of the new hero Amenadresh the Liche Priest.

It isn't a Dwarf hold if it doesn't have some Skaven sneaking around it anyway.

Master Engineer of Karag Dum Karl Karlsson and winner of May's BB Painting Competition. Thanks to all who voted from him.

Hod_BBPaintContest_5_2012.jpg

Really wanted to make him pop on the battlefield as look like quite the rich and extravagant dwarf. This was also my first big base job. I have a bunch of ogre kingdom stuff and just thought barrels and engineers went well together. The one thing that didn't turn out how I wanted it was the knife in the goblins skull. I was torn between gold or steel and decided on gold because the helmet of the goblin was steel and I thought it wouldn't contrast enough as a steel knife.

When I first came across this engineer mini I wasn't really taken with him at first but the more I looked at the detail he had the more taken with him I became. I actually covered up one of the cooler parts of the model which is a mini hammer icon on the back of his helmet.

My entry for June's painting contest. I wasn't sure what I wanted to name her at first but after painting the ghoul heads I decided she was Gerta the Gardener. My first attempt at NMM Silver. I'm slowly phasing out all use of metallic paints. We'll see how that goes.

She does look pleased. A lot of that is the mini's expression but I accidentally magnified it. When doing my upper lip highlight, I accidentally stroked from her outer upper lip a little up onto her cheek. After some cursing, I was about to fix it but noticed that, while technically it was wrong, it magnified her expression, so it stayed.

You are certainly getting better and better with NMM. That axe looks suitably battered (I like the visible strokes of paintbrush on the lower part of the blade). Also, her... erm... cuirass looks just great. You've really achieved the look of light falling on metal.

i am constantly in awe of your painting skills man, i thought my entry had some sort of a chance until i saw this, and also vidpui's entry.... i hang my head in shame!

i love the axe, The NMM is really good, and like lord ravenhelm said, i also love the chiseled look of the axe due to all the brush strokes.

Also, as always, i love how you paint cloth, do you wet blend it or is it just a ridiculously large amount of layers? Im finding i can layer not too bad now (not shown on my rinn however) but i cant wet blend to save my life@!

Rudolf.

Thanks for the nice comments. Your rinn turned out very good as well. I think she'll give Vidpui and I a run for our money.

I do not wet blend. I use 5 layers to get the full blend. 1)Base 2)Shadow 3)Layer 4)Layer 5) Highlight. I try to water down my two Layer passes pretty good so I can blend with them. A trick I've learned is with the first Layer pass (which is usually the base color again), I add about 1/4 of my highlight color to the base color. This allows you to minimize the layers you need for your blend to highlight. My second layer pass is usually 50/50 base color to highlight.

Hey Hod, any possibility of a group shot of all your painted dwarfs together. Love to see how the colours work on the army as a whole. Thanks!
