I would think that we would need a 2 day event and have the ability to leave things in place over night. If we go at 20-30k points that is a lot of setting up time. Even if all the units were magnetised and on movement trays prior to walking in the door it would prob take 2 hours to setup terrain and the models!

Oh and if GW don't want to publicise this in anyway I am sure I can get Bobo from Unseen Lerker to come along and put it in his magazine.

I'd like to think we can arrange something with GW to have it all set up prior to us starting. It may mean there's a couple of us that need to show up a day early to lend a hand etc. But let's see what we can agree with the GW events team.

I'd feel a little uneasy about leaving my minis out on a table unsupervised...

Just a thought. If we are doing war of the beard, we could get some Dark Elf players involved. They can be on a board edge attacking us or the other pointy eared cowards. This wouyld fit in with the war of the beard background etc.

I'm open to the suggestion, an Elgi's an Elgi after all! Fluffwise though, the Dark Elves had lots of involvement up to the famous "incident" that I'll not bring myself to mention... The battle itself was full on HElf vs. Dwarf, or am I missing a large chunk of the fluff??

The guys at Ulthuan.net seem to like the idea of 1:1, but we could run the idea past them?

It might be an idea for some of you to join Ulthuan.net and keep tabs on the forum and get to know some of the names. A bit of friendly banter may well help build some relationships as well as interest

Just a thought you might want to try and aim it around the holiday period seeing as people will be taking that time off anyway. Not sure about including the DE, they kinda went off and hung around in the back ground and building up towards then end of the war of vengence to attack ulthuan ater calador had been killed.

Just a thought though we will have to establish ground rules, I for one do not want to see all elf players bring teclis and his many many clones, and the library books of hoeth.

They have got a point of if we say they have to include a unit of dragon princes, in theory during that period they should be riding drakes (young dragons) and we shouldn't have the organ gun, flame cannon and possibly gyrocopter. I think the cannon was around but was relativly new.
BUT seeing as this is a grudge match then unless we want to write new units we should leave army books as is but give some restrictions (limit them and ourselves in Special characters).

Also if we pick one guy to be the "Grand General" on each side, perhaps give that person a special character worthy of this battle, like High King, and Pheonix king (or just tyrion). Always feel special characters would be around in games this size esp 20-30k.

I'm hoping it'll prove really popular. If it all pans out, it would be cool to make it an annual event, recreating an epic battle each time Who knows, after a few years, GW may allow us a lock in at Bugman's bar?!

Much of this depends on the guys over at Ulthuan.net getting on board and GW being willing to lend a "few" bits of scenery

I reckon that special rules should be written up specifically for calador and starbreaker, two special characters absolutely specific to the battle would bve awesome. Also, is this the actual war of the beard, or just a massive battle designed to regain honour as a followup years later to said war?

Well Starbreaker would likely use Thorgrim's State line, and all of his same equipment.

The only difference is the weapon, Starbreakers needs to have the Master Rune of Breaking, and very likely the Master Rune of Skalf, possibly also Master Rune of Alaric (it wouldnt have been called that then however) or even a Killing Blow rune. I base this on the fact that Starbreaker shattered Caledor's sword in one hit, and then killed him in another single stroke.

Caledor is not really that special in terms of what he has. A Magical spear, and a magical sword, and the Phoenix Crown (So 4+ ward, and Magic Resistance or a generals Leadership 18" rule)

Maybe. As there's so many people involved pinning a date to suit everyone will be tricky. Nick @ GW made out dates were already disappearing for 2012. It may come down to selecting the best date they have available for us.

Absolutely, we'll have to agree a number of "names" per side. Allowing the Phoenix King obviously has to happen. Get them working on some decent conversions and a comp as a build up to the campaign, perhaps? But yeah, limiting the lists in terms of characters so that the battle is RnF heavy is the way to go.

Yeah, one of the Elgi has already brought up the Organ Gun "no black powder" issue. I suggested we'd be happy to leave them behind if they allowed us Ancestor runes and Grungni's axes

Yes, agreed, there should definitely be an epic centre point battle and challenge. That could well be a game winner? The fall of the Phoenix King + Crown = Grudge settled

I agree, this is great idea. That said, both sides will need to agree balance and points.

The actual Battle of the Beard, or as close as we can get with unit choices and current army lists.
