another round of carvings - this time the side entrance to the main chamber on the second floor.  Ideas are starting to come together.  Need to do the exact carving on opposite sides

I still can't decide whether to attempt a stain glass window, an additional carving, or a 3d wood applique piece at the top of this wall.  My first attempts to shortcut the stained glass didn't work so well.....  colors came out way too dark.  To do it the right way will be hours per window - probably the same for a carving.  I just like trying new things...

Thoughts?   Are many people on this these pages anymore?  It seems the number of posts have dropped to around one per day or less......  where did everyone go?

The carvings look absolutely ace. What will go in between the two dragon figureheads?

If you find a cool and decently simple way to do a stained glass window, let me know. I've been struggling with that myself for a few years now. So far I've noticed that using clear plastic from the old blister pack with thinned down paint layers tends to work reasonably well.

time for a small update - working on getting the pieces all looking like marble.  I'm starting with the gray toned pieces, then will move to the blue pieces.  Eventually, I'll paint the details and then put it together.  Still playing with the idea of a silicone mold to make lion heads.......

Hmm, it’s looking good, somehow not 100% there yet. Are you working from a picture of real marble as a reference?
I literally love the white ‘lightning’ streaks, they really add something.
I want to say add a really pale wash of cream/blue/mauve in areas, but also I don’t want you to take my advice if it ruins it!!!

Marble is probably one of the hardest things to paint to look realistic.

At thrang- it never really looks just right until it is all put together. The tricky parts is the faux marble video I viewed uses oil based paint which took a long time to dry and you have more time to work with it. The rag blotting techniques work better in that medium. From a single piece standpoint I believe you are right and it needs a little earth tone on the core colors. Perhaps I can find a way without changing the current pattern work. Just finished the backside so it's on the the blue marble stone

Hoeg, that looks pretty sweet. (The dark lines are maybe a little start for a natural product and could be blurred a little, but that is nit-picking for its own sake.) Way to make something really eye-catching a unique!

Thrang and Steven - good feedback. I think I'm going the use some flecks of silver splattered in strategic spots. The blue marble will have the small silver veins cutting through the lighter blue bands so I will probably fleck with gold
